dbaseii, I would block some permissions with lbe privacy app. For example, a camera app may need location permissions for stamping where the photo was taken, but if you don't use that function, it can be blocked.Camera still works it just can't get your location.

Chances are that its in their own apps so its those permissions I would look at first.

Note: I had problems with replacing the chinese keyboard so it's still there. It works to get you onto the market and then I'd suggest downloading another keyboard (I use swiftkey)

davidoff59 I havent got around to understanding how to get a logcat yet. I'll read up on it tonight

Install log cat from market and open it. the log appears automatically.

You can do it on adb by typing "adb logcat" (without the speachmarks) for future reference

I installed this rom earlier because I was bored.LOL.

Anyway,I noticed a new folder on my sd card that made me suspicious.Has anyone else got this folder after installing this rom ?

Ok took a closer look at the files in that folder and I see Chinese characters!

It looks like some kind of data collecting to me.

The thing is,I know my sd card well,and I know all the apps I use and what they do in my sd card,so there is no other conclusion for me other than it is something in this rom trying to get my call & SMS data,and whatever else.

edit: realized the date of the folder is 9th june which means it could be any one of the chinese roms I tried,so how much of my data has been sent to china,I would not like to contemplate on :(

I cannot prove that this folder has ill intentions,but it does not look good to me.

Mobiclickagent is one to look out for which usually sends data to umeng.com which seem to be popular in China. No idea what they collect or even whether its of any use to them as these are Chinese roms meant for Chinese customers.

Already done full wipe and restored my backup.Luckily I never had no calls or SMS whilst the rom was on,nor did I add my Google account so I am safe,but others may not be!

I am going to install the rom again later and see if that folder appears again,then I will logcat it.

No offense to the OP who has done a good job gathering these roms,but I don't think these Chinese roms should be here when there is a security risk like this.If the risks are removed first then that is not problem.But when peoples personal data,calls,SMS,Google account details,etc,are being sent to China then that is not cool at all.

edit: just realized that the folder was created 9th June,so it was not this Chinese rom but one of the other ones I tried.Problem is,I don't remember which one.

So I am going to install them one by one to find the source.

I cannot prove it right now,but will look into it further,but yes it does seem to be spyware in the rom and I would advise people not to risk installing.

i think certain aspects of the ROM your posting could be used imo, but some of it looks kind of suspicious to me(no expert mind)

There should be some Unicom apk in /app delete that and odex file. That has something to do with tracking I believe.

I don't think it is this rom,I reflashed and the folder did not appear again.And as the date of the folder was 9th June,I cannot be sure which Chinese rom I was looking at that day so it could be any of them!

I don't know if you can... Odexed roms are much harder to mod and theme

Try downloading titanium backup and uninstalling the apps you don't want

I froze that Unicom apk. Nothing happened afterwards. Phone keeps working fine.
