help please - possible brick

hi

i've been using this guide http://www.getandroidfree.com/advanced/sim-unlock/t-mobile-vivacity-sim-unlock-steps/ to unlock my vivacity but when i get to step 16 (running download.exe to start the unlock process) the software says "download fail" both times. the phone won't turn back on again, but I can get it to FTM mode. i'm running windows 7 64 bit, can anyone help me?

ok panic over - i managed to get this working again with a stock rom (in case anyone was writing a lengthy reply)

i used this guide http://www.modaco.com/topic/354290-how-tosave-your-dead-vivacity/ - it worked perfectly! on step 5, make a note of the com port your phone is connected to, and then on step 7 make sure you choose this port from the drop down menu - this is the only part of the guide which isn't too clear...
