Messaging app on Arc S showing all contacts

This may not be a arc s specific annoyance, and I may well be missing a settings somewhere but..

Just upgraded to an Xperia Arc S and upgraded to that ICS. I've set the contact list to only show contacts with telephone numbers - this is synced with my Gmail account so has a massive list of people that I may have replied to as well. BUT from the default messaging app it seems to ignore this option and shows me every single person in the contact list.

Is there a way to only only show contacts with telephone numbers from the default SMS application?
