Guest Davidoff59 Posted July 26, 2012 Report Posted July 26, 2012 It is always stated that it will support it. Surely just by including drivers covers support. The official release for the u8818 doesnt have it working and Vodafone saying just install it to see if its there or not is a cop out. I have asked multiple times will it have hardware accelerated user interface which will improve battery life and the smoothness of the phone and its been ignored every time. Asking will it have opengl support gets the generic answer above.
Guest adrien56 Posted July 26, 2012 Report Posted July 26, 2012 i know this is not the right thread but I still don't understand why there is no custom ROM including opengl Ui accereleration , on the zte blade they "hack" it and it works really good thanks to tital if I remember. Cm9 and cm10 seem abandon on the g300 And maybe this could be hack or done like the blade but there are just a few developer on this really good phone .

Blade development has taken a very long time.

I agree it does seem like they've worded it carefully, but it also looks like they're saying yes to us... Edited July 26, 2012 by timfimjim
Guest Davidoff59 Posted July 26, 2012 Report Posted July 26, 2012 Yes Tom, I have seen that thanks. The fact that they have ignored specific questions though concerns me and the support word constantly crops up. They will gladly answer questions where they can reply that it will support this or that but ignore others where a generic answer isnt sufficient. I may be reading into it a bit too much but have a look for yourself and you will see all the unanswered posts. @huaweidevice Also will u8815 ICS be full release or 'demo' release ? HuaweiDevice Hi there, take a look at this table for more information http://ow.ly/i/LYCZ @huaweidevice Funny as Huawei Facebook said full ICS, not demo HuaweiDevice yes we will release a full ICS upgrade for the G300, beginning with the UK in the second half of the year. More news coming soon Hi there, we can confirm there will be an openGL 2.0 or above in ICS for U8815 @HuaweiDevice So we will have full openGL acceleration? @huaweidevice The 8815 B927 leak dosn't have opengl. Think we need confirmation official release will have opengl. @HuaweiDevice Does that mean the User interface will be accelerated. ICS for U8818 doesnt have it implemented Hi there, we'll have more details nearer the time of release, please watch this space Now do you see where I am coming from?
Guest timfimjim Posted July 26, 2012 Report Posted July 26, 2012 Yep I see what you mean. I think for now we should all keep pressure on Vodafone that we will not be content with a half hearted effort at ICS. Hopefully if the official update doesn't have UI acceleration then voda can get back to huawei, and we can hope for change, but theres not much more we can do. I'm trying to be positive and if we've been told that's what we'll get and they deliver, great. If however we don't get full ICS, I will not buy another huawei nor recommend them.
Guest rsrocha Posted July 26, 2012 Report Posted July 26, 2012 B927 doesnt have opengl says huawei? LOL Then whats opengl es 2.0 doing im my phone? Waste of space? Even the browser has opengl rendering option enabled by default in the debug menu.
Guest Davidoff59 Posted July 26, 2012 Report Posted July 26, 2012 rsrocha, that is a user post, not a huawei post
Guest rsrocha Posted July 26, 2012 Report Posted July 26, 2012 (edited) Sorry. By this time of the day things can mix up in my brain. Got it. Edited July 26, 2012 by rsrocha

Guest milllhouse Posted July 27, 2012 Report Posted July 27, 2012 HEy guys, i just bought my U8815 yesterday. Flashed this B927 update and it seems to be stable and good enough for daily use, although the UI seems to be abit laggy. I hope HUAWEI will solve this annoyng problem.

UI should be butter smooth, try using CWM to Clear your Dalvik cache, then restart from CWM and then when ICS loads restart again.
Guest Dazzozo Posted July 27, 2012 Report Posted July 27, 2012 What would clearing dalvik do? It will just regenerate the same cache.
Guest Maximus9 Posted July 27, 2012 Report Posted July 27, 2012 If 927 is already butter smooth, OpenGL hardware acceleration is not that needed... I think enthusiasts will upgrade, while those concerned about speed and productivity will stick to Gingerbread.
Guest andy.hyde4 Posted July 27, 2012 Report Posted July 27, 2012 why stick to gingerbread as that doesn't have openGL either.
Guest Dazzozo Posted July 27, 2012 Report Posted July 27, 2012 Gingerbread is totally different and OpenGL is irrelevant there.
Guest unaszplodrmann Posted July 27, 2012 Report Posted July 27, 2012 Gingerbread is totally different and OpenGL is irrelevant there. OpenGL was still used for accelerated window compositing etc. in earlier increments of Android, no? :P
Guest Dazzozo Posted July 27, 2012 Report Posted July 27, 2012 Sometimes. I didn't say otherwise, though. It seems in this forum when we refer to "OpenGL" we are actually referring to "UI acceleration".
Guest unaszplodrmann Posted July 27, 2012 Report Posted July 27, 2012 Sometimes. I didn't say otherwise, though. Sure. It seems in this forum when we refer to "OpenGL" we are actually referring to "UI acceleration". Mhm. How times have changed; OpenGL is no longer just the thingy that makes Quake 3 work ^_^
Guest Rico_89 Posted July 27, 2012 Report Posted July 27, 2012 What would clearing dalvik do? It will just regenerate the same cache. I noticed a slight lag, after using B927 for about a week, so I checked my quadrant scores and sure enough they had dropped a little. I then tried a few things and clearing the delvik cache worked for me. In my search for a solution I came across this on the xda forums. .... although the Dalvik VM regenerates Dalvik Cache when deleted. It does not remove unneeded .dex files, so regular wiping of the Dalvik Cache can be used to free up wasted space on /data/ partition. ... I have no clue if this was relevant to my problem or not but it work for me.

I was not being deliberately obtuse surrounding the subject however the plain and simply truth is that when it comes to features of firmware we are not given visibility of a great deal of information until the firmware is released to the public." Yes you are, you and Huawei have most/all the information surrounding the firmware. Once this is done we then have a feedback loop where any issues can be raised via our devices teams for testing and to the manufacturer for updating. How about fixing it beforehand so that we don't have to wait for ANOTHER update? Since the phone's release, its had two updates. Two updates in the space of less than 6 months really means you need to get your act together and test firmware PROPERLY before release. Developers on Modaco are making Vodafone look like a joke. Also were we do have some information, it can not be given out to our customers as it is classed as company sensitive information and such I am not allowed to divulge this information to people. *where (proof read your work please). Also, company sensitive? A KEY FEATURE THAT IS PART OF OPEN SOURCE SOFTWARE (I.E. ANDROID) IS NOT A COMPANY SECRET. ICS was praised for intoducing the OpenGL 2D Acceleration, especially for its UI. It is a very basic feature. What would you rather, saying you'll put it in, or face the massive revolt when we find out for ourselves its not? You can see it on our and your forums, and we aren't going anywhere till we get answers. When it comes to a firmware being tested this is done by our devices team who will test specific functions on the device and if there are problems it will fail our technical acceptance and be sent back to the manufacturer to be addressed, unfortunately we have no way of telling the devices team what to test and as mentioned above we will need to wait for any software to be released before an issue can be passed back for investigation. Test if it has a stock ICS (not Huawei) Camera app. If it does, with panorama and with face morphing etc, then the feature is present. If it doesn't, tell Huawei or your team to sort it out. However, as the release has yet to become live everything is pure speculation as this may have already been addressed. James http://translate.goo...&eotf=1&u=ht... Go download the ROM yourself, and try the Camera app. It is not a stock ICS Camera, it is a Huawei built app with little or no OpenGL Acceleration. We are not speculating anything. We are stating the facts, facts brought to light by a team of excellent developers. What we are doing, is telling you to tell your device team to tell Huawei that consumers within the United Kingdom and all over the world want and need this very basic feature to be enabled either by yourselves or Huawei. It's simple as that. The fact that you are being obtuse, no matter how much you deny it, is what is angering your customers, and owners of this mobile device. It is one question. It's not as if we are demanding the source code of propriatary software. We are making clear to you our right to a feature of OPEN SOURCE software.""""""""""""" Can you tell I'm angry yet? Edited July 28, 2012 by dragpyre
Guest Davidoff59 Posted July 28, 2012 Report Posted July 28, 2012 Don't get angry or the thread will get locked. Take the fight to them with knowledge and debate. More people need to join the cause. If you have a G300, this will benefit you as well as future Rom development. We won't get a better opportunity to get this implemented and you can already see Vodafone actively making excuses in real time. Speak now or forever be condemned to shitty Vodafone roms.
Guest unaszplodrmann Posted July 29, 2012 Report Posted July 29, 2012 Nah, it looks like they're not willing to touch the issue, but who knows, maybe they'll look into it whilst also being careful not to even acknowledge that they are aware of the issue. We can but hope
