New G300 - any must-dos for a newbie to optimise the phone?

Having played with the G300 for the past few days on its stock settings, I have now reached the stage where I am ready to mod and change things up a bit to optimise it.

For a newbie, any suggestions with respect to must-dos for this phone to optimise it? Post your thoughts and hopefully I can compile the most common ones and list them here for all future newbies. This forum is a brilliant wealth of information but it can be a bit overwhelming.

Thanks in advance!

If you want state of the art, upgrade to B927 (ICS):

If you want official roms, upgrade via OTA to B885, then B892.

Some people recommend the V6 Supercharger Script (thread is here: http://www.modaco.com/topic/356079-guide-v6-supercharger-install-%E2%80%93-all-roms-%E2%80%93-kill-lag-increase-speed/), but myself personally, it just made B927 slower.

People have said good things about Paul's B888 mod ROM here: http://www.modaco.com/topic/353814-modaco-custom-rom-gr2-for-the-huawei-u8815-g300-b888-new-partitionswap/

How to root Gingerbread and install a custom recovery is here: http://www.modaco.com/topic/353386-how-to-root-your-huawei-ascend-g300-for-windows-mac-and-linux/ then here: http://www.modaco.com/topic/353528-clockworkmod-recovery-for-huawei-u8815ascend-g-300/

Rooting and unlocking the bootloader of B926/B927 is here: http://www.modaco.com/topic/355533-bootloader-unlock-for-ics-403-for-the-ascend-g300/page__st__140__p__1982267__hl__+unlockbootloader#entry1982267

The regulars here recommend mostly Apex or Nova Launcher, however, whatever launcher you want is down to you (I use stock launcher or Go Launcher Ex)

This what you were after?

Honestly I would avoid the B926 and 927 ICS roms. They're just not ready yet.

To improve on the stock experience, follow Paul's guide to the G2 888 ROM - it's one of the stickies.

It will let you install a pre-rooted and improved ROM. It also installs clockworkmod which will let you back up and try other roms when they're ready.

Source: I tried both 926 & 927 and reverted back to 888 as both were laggy.

B926 has better data speeds than B927.

Therefore I suggest you update to B926. Then do the bootloader unlock, etc, then flash Tillaz's custom ROM named infusion

Agree totally wait until official ICS modded, my best configuration is; Paul's ROM with the Tillaz Atomic patch and I've also used the v6 Supercharger which has provided me with a fast, smooth and reliable ROM, thanks all!

Guest anything-but

Then again, what works for someone may not work for you,it`s subjective to be honest. Tried most of the gingerbread roms and they were all pretty good, likewise the leaked ICS 926/927 have (and in the case of 927 currently) are good also....but like i said, that`s just for me. It`s a case of try and see what works for you really. :)
