Is it safe to upgrade to ics/jb on an unlocked phone?

I've only just got a hold of this Vodafone UK unlocked phone yesterday. It was already unlocked when I bought it 2nd hand. The phone seems to be pretty much brand new / hardly used by whom ever had it before me. So I'm not so worried by the 2nd warrenty the store gave me. Of course if I brick the phone, it's all my fault and I can't claim anyways.

I've already rooted the phone using Paul's rooter, not the one mentioned on http://www.modaco.com/topic/357243-explained-like-youre-5-install-custom-roms-from-scratch-install-the-official-ics-update-root-more/ hopefully the 109808 rooter on that page is the same difference when it comes to rooting?

Either way, I'm wanting to know if I do decide to flash ICS / JB am I going to have unlock the phone again? I know unlocking and rooting is two different things, I'm just wondering if I flash ICS / JB on does the "locking" come back?

Thanks for any help!

Don't worry, once the phone has been unlocked, it stays unlocked no matter what roms are installed, so go ahead and install custom roms as much as you want :D
