i have built TWRP for the vowney v5, only problem is its 6.31mb and the recovery partition on the device is only 6mb...

there is a guide on how to increase the partition to 7mb but is quite lengthy, however i will post the link for it if people want to go that way.

so for an easier option without having to re-flash the whole phone or anything complicated i built CWM (in english) as this is only 6mb and will fit.

I don't really understand this ..but can i use it? or do i have to get the firmware.info first?

err, even the CWM is slightly to big... i will try lowering the quality of the images and see if it will fit

yes, everyone with the vowney v5 can use it, no need for the firmware.info as another member sent it

i'm just trying to reduce the size so it can be flashed without having to increase the size of the recovery partition.

EDIT:

can't get TWRP small enough to fit on the stock partition so if you want that you will need to increase the partition size...

CWM is good to go though..

can you send me the build.prop from that stock vowney ROM you have ?

or on the phone you can use a file manager app and go to

/system

and open build.prop with a text editor and take a screenshot (press volume down & power button at the same time)

make sure "ro.product.device=" is visible before taking the screenshot.

and the same for /system/etc/vold.fstab

The stock vowney rom I downloaded has 2 dir's - bin and database. There is no build.prop in either of these dir's. Can i extract it with SP flash tool?

On phone with file manager i can only browse sdcard. I think i would need root first?

that was quick , all we need now is some custom English custom roms, even a upgrade from 4.2.1 to 4.2.2 with some small mods would be nice

before i put thie guide up for CWM i need to check one thing.

use this file manager (since its the one i use i can show you what to do)

open the app and you will see this, swipe to the left

and you will be here, press the highlighted button

select system root (you don't need root)

press on build.prop and it will open

press the volume down & power button at the same time to take a screenshot and send me it.

press back and open etc

press on vold.vstab take a screenshot and send me it.

navigate to the .zip you just added to the sdcard and select it

press yes, wait till it finishes and reboot.

no requirements for the sdcard,

to check if you have root look at your app drawer for an app called "superuser" or "superSU"

if you don't have one the above you wont have root,

and you don't actually need root to flash Google apps, so its up to you if you want to root or not.

Ouh i don't have this app, so i actually paid for root service but don't have superuser features, i'm really hating on merimobiles!! well thank god i found this forum and the phone arrived fast

Well, is anyone still considering the Jiayu G4 after all this V5 business? It's just that the V5's a few millimetres off being the size of a Galaxy note- and that's an obscene size imo. Jiayu g4 is only slightly larger than the ZTE Skate, the only phone i can relate to :/

i think its actually supposed to turn yellow when flashing the recovery, i will update the guide so people don't get confused :)

It would be really nice to move this specific stuff from Tillaz and few other v5 users to a separate theme and to ask Kyan to put a link to it in OP.

It doesn`t bother me except that is pitty to have this very interesting development burried inside this topic (I`m sick of the word topic now :blink: )
