It's always the way, they seem to be protective of their devices for no real reason. But hey, that's the fun and games :P

And they sell the phones locked to prevent idiots from messing things up and returning the phones back to the networks. If you unlock the device then you agree to the terms provided and your warranty is void. If you mess up then that's your own fault. And Huawei aren't the only manufacturer that does this. Samsung, HTC, Sony.. should I go on?

Sorry about that if you unlock the Bootloader that means that your device is out of warranty. But if your has problems with your device , maybe you can try to send your device to local Huawei service center to fix with cost. Once again thank you for contacting Huawei device. Best Regards. Yea, I gather this is why they have the whole "Submit a code to unlock your bootloader" thing - if they provide an official way it makes it the easiest way, and they have a way to check if it's been unlocked. But like I said elsewhere, I'd welcome the opportunity to invalidate my warranty

Follow the guide at the start of this thread, and yes the phone does need to be in fastboot mode, volume down and power hold down for 10 seconds and away you go.
