Awaiting for the unlock code from Huawei, but till then is there any other things i can tweak to suit?

Can`t say i like the UI,does that have to wait for the boot loader unlock to be removed or can just download a different one and replace it?

It`s a T-mobile one in B186 firmware, best kept as that? It`s for the other half`s dad,so will have to be kept as stock/simple as possible.

Cheers. :)

Unlocking the bootloader resets the phone. So make sure you have a backup first!

Yeah, unlocking resets the phone, so take this opportunity to have a play. Try a couple of different launchers, probably nova or apex... once you've unlocked and rooted, you can take a backup of the original setup and then use an uninstaller to get rid of the stuff you don't want for a cleaner is.

Well,it`s brand new so resetting when the code does come through won`t be a problem because as above i`m just nosing around and having a play till it gets here, then the stock c**p goes bye-bye. :D

How did you get on? I'm in a similar boat. Bought the Y300 for my dad, but want to make it is as simple and smooth as poss. Running B186 currently - is it worth upgrading/installing any custom rom on this...or should i just uninstall the crap and leave as is?

You can't uninstall the crap until you've rooted, and you need the unlock code for that. So the first thing is to get it unlocked and rooted, then you can make a backup, and uninstall the stuff you don't want, maybe put on a more standard launcher like apex or nova and remove emotionUI. You could install a launcher now and just leave the other stuff on - some launchers give you the ability to hide apps, so you could just hide the stuff you don't want.

You could upgrade to B190, but you probably won't see much difference. There are the startings of custom Stock-based roms emerging, but at the moment they're purely interface tweaks rather than performance ones, so if you're happy with a stock look and feel, leave it as-is.

Thanks a lot! I've just received my unlock code, so will give it a go. This is a bit knew to me as i'm a Samsung man myself - have flashed both the S and SII numerous times and running Nova launcher. Custom Roms work much better than stock on the Samsung, but, as the Y300 is for my dad, i will do as you suggest: root, remove unwanted stuff and leave firmware as is. The main priority is to simply keep it as smooth and uncluttered as possible.

Thanks again.
