I found an ancient thread on this, sorry if I shouldn't have started a new one.

Got my G510 today from the Vodafone Ireland online shop, after having dropped and permanently hardbricked my Galaxy Nexus. This is a huge step downward for me but I couldn't afford another high-end phone. Was looking forward to rooting and playing with ROMs as I did with my Nexus.

So my G510 has a serious problem. I put in a (new, bought from Vodafone Ireland) 16gb class 10 micro SD. The first problem I noticed was that the card kept unmounting itself as I was trying to move data onto it. Upon inspection the back of the phone just above the micro SD was no longer flush with the bezel. Shut it down, took the back off, took out the SD, shoved it back in as hard as possible. Still a visible gap between the back and the bezel. Card still unmounting itself. Lather rinse repeat, could not get it to stop unmounting and the annoying gap was still there.

I had difficulty reaching a human being at Vodafone as I just switched from O2 (because O2 had no inexpensive PAYG phones that were worth a shite) and Vodafone's phone menu tree kept claiming I'm not a customer as I hadn't activated the SIM (which can only be done by ringing *headdesk*). Livechat on the website told me to send it back to Dublin as a real shop absolutely could not exchange it. Suspect that "Livechat" is actually a bot or at best someone copy-and-pasting stock answers. Found a number for tech support and a real person, who was insistent that I must return it to a real shop and not post it back to the online shop. Tried to print a returns form on the website which threw up an error. Going to take it to a real shop tomorrow in hopes of exchange.

Okay, Vodafone idiocy aside, I've found several instances of the same SD problem on GSMarena comments, one here, a couple more elsewhere.

Is this problem at all common? If you don't have this problem, is your back flush with the bezel all the way round? Is the build quality commonly this awful? If I can't expect much better, I'll go with a Galaxy Ace or something with a tiny screen, but I don't want to if this issue is relatively rare.

Also would love to know if Vodafone Ireland's support will always suck this much if anyone knows, of course rather a side issue.

This a common problem with the android o/s and SD cards. I had a 16gb class 10 sandisk micro sd in my G300 it keep ejecting out. So brought a lower class one and I had no problem after that. My partner currently has it in her Y300 with no problem. If you search it in google tons of stuff comes up.

It seems to be very hit and miss some people are affected and others are not.

I think the problem is almost certainly the SD card. I have a 16GB card that I used with my previous phone and have had no problems with it in the Ascend. There are other problems with the phone, however, the latest being the sudden loss of wi-fi.

All the networks suck, so switching from one to the other will present the same or a new set of problems.
