Guest bryfly Posted April 25, 2014 Report Posted April 25, 2014 (edited) It now appears that some people have reported success using Vroot V1.7.7 on coolpad F1 official ROM's, right up to v29, if a Chinese flash screen comes up on the phone screen, click the bottom left hand button which we believe is ok. Started this topic as this phone could be the new V5. here are my first questions... Has anybody managed to find a way to re-introduce the usb mass storage to this phone instead of mtb, have tried several methods found on the web with no luck, including rebooting with usb connected and changing build properties. Is there a version of CWM that may work, as I did a factory reset and recovery was all in Chinese ....nightmare . Is there a web page that has the official original ROM available , just in case..All information re software-custom-roms etc has now been combined by dadok in his excellent thread below http://www.modaco.com/topic/372543-coolpad-f1-8297w-info-software-custom-roms/#entry2212206 At dakok's request moving some of his posts to the first page for quick info. In the meantime take a look at MIUI development for Coolpad F1. If I got that right, it seems that someone made a patch for WCDMA version so you can flash TD-SCDMA rom and that patch it to WCDMA...http://www.miui.com/thread-1649600-1-1.html Here's resourceful ydss website, toohttp://bbs.ydss.cn/forum.php?mod=forumdisplay&fid=612&filter=typeid&typeid=2295 Spanish forum resourcehttp://www.forocoches.com/foro/showthread.php?p=160513774#post160513774 Spanish forum resourcehttp://www.movilesdualsim.com/forums/coolpad-f1-8297w-mtk6592.421/ Russian forum resource:http://4pda.ru/forum/index.php?showtopic=535435 USB driver and firmwarehttp://drivers.mydrivers.com/search-29-2107/h61331-0-0-1-0-1.htmUnbrick guide & tools http://pan.baidu.com/share/link?shareid=3727302810&uk=1295327927 (eb3q)https://docs.google.com/document/d/1pUxaT4XYbxu6f980_jrlIPZQYd72L_HvDxzMHySt9yk/edit?usp=sharinghttp://www.movilesdualsim.com/threads/coolpad-f1-8297w-mtk6592-2gb-ram-8gb-rom.63413/page-15#post-643297ET firmware:http://pan.baidu.com/share/home?uk=3225097610&view=share#category/type=0 (ET)Coolpad F1 WCDMA original rom & Tools:http://pan.baidu.com/share/link?shareid=3056014989&uk=2601023930 (vwdp)http://pan.baidu.com/s/1jG7L7Ky Could you move this links to the first or second post, please? :) There is a selection of 14 roms for our phone at Mobile Uncle website. There is also a MIUI patch that converts TDSCDMA MIUI rom for F1 to a WCDMA one :) I wonder if it works for non-MIUI roms :) P.S.TWRP recovery This is the way to install Google Services (Google Play, etc) without rootTake your own responsibility to flash this! Quote 1 Move the zip package into the root directory of phone memory /storage/emulated/0, note the name do not change; 3 Enter the System Setup - on the phone, click on eight consecutive "version number", enter developer mode, ie press the return key to exit on the phone to see the "Developer Options"; 4 Click into the developer options down to the final surface to find "GMS package pre-installed" option, click, the system prompts "Restart phone GMS package will install", click OK to install; 5 After the installation is complete, it will automatically boot, boot into the application to view the completed package to the GMS application installed; Google services patch:http://pan.baidu.com/s/1gddznEF This is google translation and my english is far from perfect so I leave this short guide without major corrections. I think it is clear enough, anyway :) (P.S. if someone wants to make this absolutely clear - be my guest)Source:http://bbs.7to.cn/thread-9378-1-1.html (several other sites have this, too) Edited June 22, 2014 by bryfly
Guest bryfly Posted April 25, 2014 Report Posted April 25, 2014 (edited) Found another forum here http://bbs.coolpad.com/forum-1065-1.html do not think it is linked to the one dadok found.Plus some Rom's here, if applicablehttp://www.needrom.com/phone-roms/coolpad/8297-f1/ Edited April 25, 2014 by bryfly
Guest Maringer Posted April 25, 2014 Report Posted April 25, 2014 (edited) Looking at that Coolpad forum, there appear to be a heck of a lot of ROMs available there. The question, of course, is how many of them will work with the WCDMA Coolpad and will they need to be modified at all? Have you had the opportunity yet to see if Airdroid works with your F1? It's a free download and very straightforward to try out. Edit: I note that one of the Needrom ROMs states support for Unicom WCDMA only. That ought to work with the 8297w. Guest bryfly Posted April 25, 2014 Report Posted April 25, 2014 (edited) No have not tried airdriod yet will try it soon, MTP is a pain, cannot transfer any zip files to sd card.cannot find an English CWM, getting quite good at guessing Chinese though, wondered if tillaz TWRP would work on the coolpad quote =Here is TWRP image i built for the v5 (full touch recovery) http://www.solidfile...m/d/23b64d68cb/you would just replace it with the one in the flash tool.updateJust tried airdriod and it worked, it put zip file on internal storage so cut and pasted to sd card, not as good as usb method but at least it worked Edited April 25, 2014 by bryfly
Guest Maringer Posted April 25, 2014 Report Posted April 25, 2014 I'm sorely tempted to order one of these devices, especially if some of the prices around (notably Eternal Team on Aliexpress) are accurate. Looks as though it is popular enough that there should be plenty of development around for it. My current phone the FAEA F1 was abandoned by FAEA without even an upgrade from a buggy version of 4.1.2. The main thing that is stopping me at the moment is that I always swore I'd never have such a big phone! I thought the HTC One and SGS4 were much too big when they came out, yet the Coolpad is larger than these two devices! The Japanese certainly have the right idea when it comes to more compact phones. Just look at the specs of this Sharp phone: http://www.gsmarena.com/sharp_aquos_xx_304sh_with_a_52_fhd_display_hits_japan-news-8362.php Obviously, this would cost a heck of a lot more than a cheapo Chinese phone, but just look at the specs!
Guest grabster Posted April 25, 2014 Report Posted April 25, 2014 Well it finally arrived today. Gotta say i'm impressed with it. Still waiting for my 02 micro sim to swap over but giffgaff is fine so far. Now if i could only figure out how to transfer the contacts over properly.
Guest dalyer Posted April 25, 2014 Report Posted April 25, 2014 Now if i could only figure out how to transfer the contacts over properly. Just synch over to Google and back!?

ROMs + CWM: http://www.needrom.com/phone-roms/coolpad/8297-f1/Rooting: http://androidxda.com/root-coolpad-f1-8297Could be, I see a CWM in English has been posted since I last looked, have downloaded it but not sure if it makes any difference whether it is for the Chinese or WCDMA version of the phone..my phone arrived rooted..
Guest Maringer Posted April 26, 2014 Report Posted April 26, 2014 CWM ought to work the same for both the TD-SCDMA and the WCDMA versions of the phone, I'd have thought? The radio of the phone is kept in a separate partition which CWM shouldn't really be accessing. Nandroid backups don't touch the radio partition, as far as I'm aware:http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/278898-android-partitions-kernels-explained.htmlSorely tempted to order one of these, despite the size!

Guest dakok Posted April 26, 2014 Report Posted April 26, 2014 Come on, root shouldn't be a problem for an old modaco member :p
Guest Ascend Posted April 26, 2014 Report Posted April 26, 2014 On my second attempt I now have one of these coming. First attempt I ordered from ET, who said they had it in stock. Got DHL tracking number the following day but from that day to this it never tracked. After a couple of weeks and a number of pathetic excuses from ET I raised a dispute with Aliexpress. This was resolved very quickly and I got a full refund. Second attempt I ordered from Shenzhen Value in Action Technology. Order was dispatched a couple of days later and DHL tracking now works and phone is in transit. Price was US$ 183.99 plus US$ 12 for DHL to UK. Free delivery via Singapore Post is also available. An 8GB SD card is also included.

Guest dakok Posted April 26, 2014 Report Posted April 26, 2014 Nice info :) Could you ask him for any new stock rom download link. It could be a handy resource if things go wrong.

Guest grabster Posted April 27, 2014 Report Posted April 27, 2014 Anyone figure out how to create quick dial shortcuts ? It looks like the built in launcher does not allow it. Also tried Apex and Nova but they dont allow it either for some reason.

I have tried but the speed dial wont send direct dial shortcuts to the desktop, and display settings crashes when it is selected. Perhaps there is a stock vanilla rom available that i could flash ? The phone arrived prerooted,i only had to install super su.
