Guest Antcow Posted October 5, 2014 Report Posted October 5, 2014 I followed the MoDaCo link from http://huaweig300.com/huawei-g300-install-a-custom-jelly-bean-ics-rom-from-scratch/install-the-custom-rom/ after it asked me to download a chosen custom Jelly Bean ROM. Could someone tell me if I need to install a custom ROM or go directly to gapps-jb-20120726-signed.zip . I tried this ROM here but link seems dead. http://www.modaco.com/topic/353860-help-im-new-and-i-cant-do/Download the B886 build rom now!
Guest dalyer Posted October 5, 2014 Report Posted October 5, 2014 (edited) In my opinion you would be better off with a GB ROM - in particular GBXTREME. If you insist on JB then there are are number of ROMs available in the development section. I would also suggest that you don't use that huaweig300.com tutorial to unlock the bootloader as it is out of date and you should do this the official way of necessary. See the tutorial thread in the development section. gapps-jb-... is not a ROM - it's a Google apps zip needed for certain ROMs that don't bundle Google apps (usually CyanogenMod). Hope this helps. Guest Antcow Posted October 5, 2014 Report Posted October 5, 2014 Thanks for your suggestions dayler, much appreciated. The Android 4.03 update slowed the phone too much, the GBXTREME looks the business. Would you mind confirming I've I got these links right before I embark on the next part, thanks. Tutorial: http://www.modaco.com/topic/362821-tutorial-how-to-officially-unlock-the-bootloader-with-definitions-relock-guide-included/?hl=%20tutorial GBXTREME: http://www.modaco.com/topic/368846-romgb-b895-gbxtreme-rom-%E2%9C%B029032014%E2%9C%B0-multibaseband/?hl=%20gbxtreme Regards
Guest dalyer Posted October 5, 2014 Report Posted October 5, 2014 Links are correct. But no need to unlock the bootloader for GBX. You can just stick with the inherently unlocked GB baseband and bootloader. If you don't have them installed at the moment then you can install them here: http://www.modaco.com/topic/361310-downgrade-upgrade-from-recovery/
Guest Antcow Posted October 5, 2014 Report Posted October 5, 2014 I'm struggling a bit dalyer. Can't find how to flash those two zips in recovery and reboot from a Mac I'm thinking it's something like below turn Fastboot Off! Now, you need to make sure that the phone is unplugged from the PC. Now turn off the phone, and hold volume DOWN and Power. This will put the phone into fastboot mode. When you have held it down for 30 seconds, and the phone is on the Huawei ascend screen, plug it back in to the PC and go into the folder, where you extracted it. Now you are there, press Shift and right click. You should see a menu with a few strange options. You need to Click "Open command window here" I'm Mac so I guess it'll be Terminal After that I'm thinking I follow instructions, changing file names: http://huaweig300.com/huawei-g300-install-a-custom-jelly-bean-ics-rom-from-scratch/re-root-unlock-bootloader-install-clockworkmod-recovery/
Guest dalyer Posted October 6, 2014 Report Posted October 6, 2014 You need CWM or TWRP installed. Then you copy the zips to the root of your external sdcard and install them from the custom recovery. The huaweig300.com tutorial will do for rooting and installing an old version of CWM. Then you can install the latest. You can even use their method of unlocking the bootloader if necessary if you are ultimately going to install the GB baseband and bootloader. However I don't know how to do any of this from a Mac because some of the tools above are Windows executables. Hope this helps.
Guest Antcow Posted October 6, 2014 Report Posted October 6, 2014 Thanks for the info and clear advice dalyer, finding a Windows PC to use will be straight forward and I'll let you know how I get on. Regards.
Guest Antcow Posted October 23, 2014 Report Posted October 23, 2014 I'm not sure what happened following the procedure exactly as described (well pretty closely) but the phone is working as fast as the day I got it. It looks the same as I remember, not the cool GBX I was expecting. It says Android version 4.0.3 so with the restored speed I'll leave it like that for now, maybe experiment after an upgrade. Thanks for your assistance. Appreciated.
Guest dalyer Posted October 24, 2014 Report Posted October 24, 2014 I don't understand.Did you install GBX or not?If you did then it should be there....
Guest Antcow Posted October 26, 2014 Report Posted October 26, 2014 I thought I did dalyer, not there. I'm going to try it again ..
Guest dalyer Posted October 26, 2014 Report Posted October 26, 2014 I thought I did dalyer, not there That really doesn't make sense...

Guest Antcow Posted November 4, 2014 Report Posted November 4, 2014 Maybe Whatec is right. I think I installed these http://www.modaco.co...-from-recovery/ Have tried to root my phone again, on both mac and Windows xp but no superuser is showing up. Tried restarts on phone and computers. :( Stuck.
Guest dalyer Posted November 4, 2014 Report Posted November 4, 2014 (edited) I'm not clear on what you are doing or what you have installed at this stage so I would suggest this as one way to get to a working phone: Revert to stock - e.g. ICS B952: http://www.modaco.com/topic/362821-tutorial-how-to-officially-unlock-the-bootloader-with-definitions-relock-guide-included/#entry2128104 (read that post very carefully) Use this tutorial to root, unlock the bootloader (the unofficial way- I know!) and install (an older version of) CWM: http://www.modaco.com/topic/357243-explained-like-youre-5-install-custom-roms-from-scratch-install-the-official-ics-update-root-more/ Install the GB baseband/bootloader: http://www.modaco.com/topic/361310-downgrade-upgrade-from-recovery/ Install the latest CWM if you want: http://www.modaco.com/topic/359191-recovery-cwm-clockworkmod-recovery-v6045-cm-last-updated-2112/ Install GBXTREME: http://www.modaco.com/topic/368846-romgb-b895-gbxtreme-rom-%E2%9C%B029032014%E2%9C%B0-multibaseband/ Edited November 4, 2014 by dalyer
Guest Antcow Posted November 5, 2014 Report Posted November 5, 2014 Thankfully my phone still works ok, just not sure where I am in this process myself. Im still after GBXTREME, so thanks for the info and links. Will follow carefully.
Guest Antcow Posted November 6, 2014 Report Posted November 6, 2014 Dalyer, this is where I'm at 1. Done 2. Page 3 and page 6 done 3. Install the GB baseband/bootloader: http://www.modaco.co...-from-recovery/ turned fast boot off copied this file to cd card: DOWNGRADE TO GB: http://www.solidfile...m/d/e208f49ff9/ reboot in recovery Signature verification failed replaced file reboot in recovery Signature verification failed reboot in custom recovery (not sure if this was the right thing to do, took idea from previous: Posted 06 October 2014 - 08:01 AM) reboot in recovery Signature verification failed Superuser not showing!
Guest dalyer Posted November 6, 2014 Report Posted November 6, 2014 After step 3 why didn't you just try to flash GBEXTREME in CWM using the choose zip option?
Guest Antcow Posted November 6, 2014 Report Posted November 6, 2014 I didnt complete step 3 dalyer, that's where the signature verification failed. Do I need to start from 2step 2 again?
Guest dalyer Posted November 6, 2014 Report Posted November 6, 2014 The downgrade zip needs to be flashed in CWM using the choose zip option. I'm not sure what you're doing here.
Guest Antcow Posted November 6, 2014 Report Posted November 6, 2014 I think I know where I went wrong, I was in the Android System Recovery utility. Trying again..
Guest dalyer Posted November 6, 2014 Report Posted November 6, 2014 By Android System Recovery do you mean <3e> one? If so then you haven't installed CWM yet and you need that!
Guest Antcow Posted November 6, 2014 Report Posted November 6, 2014 thats the one. Ive tried installing the CWM 3 times now. I'm doing to re download a new copy. It's just the Downgrade to GB baseband (B895), GB bootloader and CWM5 recovery. I dont need the upgrade to ICS do I?
Guest dalyer Posted November 6, 2014 Report Posted November 6, 2014 What ROM is installed on your phone right now? I'm still not clear if you have rooted/unlocked bootloader/installed CWM as per the "explained like you're 5" tutorial? http://huaweig300.com/huawei-g300-install-a-custom-jelly-bean-ics-rom-from-scratch/re-root-unlock-bootloader-install-clockworkmod-recovery/ Don't try to unlock the bootloader if you are on GB as it's unnecessary and may cause problems. (I know that this tutorial's way of unlocking the bootloader is no longer recommended but it's only temporary here until the GB baseband/bootloader is installed via CWM) Once you have CWM on you can install the downgrade zip from CWM and then install the GBX zip from CWM. Optionally you can install a later CWM zip from CWM itself but it's not absolutely necessary. My original instructions should have covered all of this but I'm not sure that you followed them properly... :-|
