A few people have commented that USB OTG seems to be disabled on Lollipop. Would that have anything to do with it?

I'm sorry to contradict, but that simply is not true! USB OTG is working fine in Lollipop 5.1 on the Hudl 2 after the ota update.

Agree with CPN200, have used an NTFS formatted memory stick via OTG and watched a 7gb MKV video file without issue.

OK.  So this is what works for me.

Hudl2 with Android 5.1

Powered USB hub is Advent HB212

DAC is an HRT Microstreamer

There is a strange issue though.  The DAC needs to be connected to the powered USB hub to get it to work when first powered up.

However, it can then be disconnected from the hub and connected straight to the OTG cable in the Hudl and it continues to work!?

It works for me, and I think the sound is better than from my old netbook that i was using via a USB for connecting Spotify to my Hi Fi amp.

No idea why some people have a problem.  Could it be the DAC?

I had no issues connecting either my Fiio X3 or Naim DAC VI under KitKat, although I had toe use USB Audio Pro to get any sound.  Now, under Lollipop, nothing.  Tesco have clearly screwed up here, and are trying to hide behind the "it's not supported under Android" argument.  It's seems that there are differing hardware versions of the tablet, with one OTG is working and the other it is not working.
