hudl2 Covers

Hey guys!

Thanks to Paul for leading the battle to root the hudl2.

I was wondering if anyone has bought a bargain folio/cover for their tablet? I'm liking Tesco's version of a folio but at £20 it seems a bit too expensive. I guess I would be comfortable shelling out around £10 or so.

Thoughts?

I have the previous leather folio on my original hudl - it is great quality, but I was lucky enough to pick it up in the Tesco hudl fire sale for about £3.50. The current hudl2 version is just as good quality as the original but not value for money at £25.

On the hudl2, I've opted for the 'soft protective shell' and I'm looking to possibly obtain a custom made padded sleeve - there's currently few if any off the shelf padded sleeves that fit or aren't way too big. This situation with sleeves, may ease a little with time and ironically the release of the nexus 9, also just realised the hudl2 is virtually the same size as the Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.4.

  • hudl2 : 224 x 128 x 9 mm
  • nexus 9 : 228 x 154 x 8 mm
  • Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.4 : 219 x 128.5 x 7.2 mm

Bring on the nexus and Samsung padded protective sleeves ......  :ninja:

I see a few options in amazon and ebay (YMMV):

The one above has cutouts for the speakers which makes it the most desirable for me. Takes 6-10 days to dispatch though o_O.

I've got the leather folio case, and can say its one of the better cases I've ever bought for a phone or tablet.

Soft leather feel, covers the whole tablet but leaving the ports free. And the best bit, the magnetic snap folds backwards when the tablet is in use so its out the way.

After a series of cheap eBay "deals" for previous devices, I'd say the extra cash is well worth it this time.

I was put off by the bad reviews for the leather case on the Tesco website - especially if your going to be spending that kind of money.

The missus and I have both ordered from Amazon - Great price and the reviews all seem very positive. Just a case (boom boom) of waiting for it to arrive now.

I got the official soft cover case http://www.tesco.com/direct/hudl2-soft-touch-case/235-4528.prd?pageLevel=&skuId=125-6975

With a third off it's not too bad a price. It's very well made, with a good stand and magnetic closing flap. It also usefully covers the SD slot. My main issue is that the back is far far thicker than it needs to be, adding unnecessary bulk and weight.

Hows your GPS reception in that case compared to without it?

I had the suspicion that the previus case version for hudl1 had a metal lining (can't remember now as I ditched the case for a priced slashed folio), but then hudl1 was so poor at GPS reception it probably didn't matter.

I've not really checked, but I'll see how it performs on the train tomorrow.

I'm pretty sure there's no metal in the back though.

That's good to hear, maybe that's another 'modification' that has been learned by Tesco.

My not-very-scientific test says that the case didn't affect GPS. The Hudl was pretty slow to get a lock from a cold start, but once it was going it produced basically identical results to my phone.
