Guest christhedj Posted January 6, 2015 Report Posted January 6, 2015 Hi, It's Chris at The INQUIRER again. I am trying to get some answers for you, but Tesco's press team are very slow at getting back. As soon as I know more, I will post again.
Guest benzodiazepines Posted January 6, 2015 Report Posted January 6, 2015 According to their Twitter and their tech support it seems the 5th of January date was pulled out of thin air and no one knows when any update if it even exists will be released.
Guest mayburyds Posted January 6, 2015 Report Posted January 6, 2015 Decided to try a hard rest and force it to perform an update. It's started charging as it should but I've been here before! Cheers.
Guest Ouzy Posted January 6, 2015 Report Posted January 6, 2015 Decided to try a hard rest and force it to perform an update. It's started charging as it should but I've been here before! Cheers. Been there done that, it lasted 3 days and then the won't charge issue was back. Tesco need to get the 'promised' update sorted as soon as possible.
Guest Kate on the Gate Posted January 6, 2015 Report Posted January 6, 2015 Hi everyone, I've been following this for a few days now and waited like everyone else for the update that didn't happen. I phoned Tech and they said pretty much what others have said. A date had not been officially announced for an update, so, that sounds like it won't even be next month. Something that occurred to me.... I live in Rochdale Lancashire and purchased direct at the store and seem to have a dud. My friend lives in Belper Derbyshire and ordered on line to collect in store and hers is fine. I'm wondering if there's any correlation between where we live and what we've got? Just a thought, Also, please can someone advise me, if a tablet is fully charged in the morning but not used all day because you're at work, should it be saying connect your charger by the time you get home from work. It didn't happen on my Nexus but is doing on my Hudl 2. Thanks in advance.
Guest Swanseajack Posted January 6, 2015 Report Posted January 6, 2015 No it's not, try turning off always on scanning even when wifi is off option.
Guest baronsaturday Posted January 7, 2015 Report Posted January 7, 2015 (edited) I've had the issue a few times using various chargers including the official one. Two issues with the "reboot once a day" non-solution: - you don't know if it's going to charge or not when you turn it back on, so you can't just turn it off and on again before you go to bed - it makes that stupid badword noise every time you turn it on and you can't get rid of it. Most of my use is in public so that makes me reluctant to turn it on I wish I'd like at Hudl 1 support before buying this. I feel cheated tbh. Edited January 7, 2015 by baronsaturday
Guest mayburyds Posted January 7, 2015 Report Posted January 7, 2015 I wondered about whether there was a dodgy batch but I live in Kent, so I guess that theory is out unless it is a batch that has been distributed around the country! I suspect that a lot of people also turn off their Hudl of a night thereby alleviating the charging problem without them knowing there is an issue. This could be why Tesco's haven't received many calls. Sounds like you have a problem with your Hudl not holding it's charge. I don't think it should need charging if you haven't used it all day unless something is running in the background. Cheers.
Guest Kate on the Gate Posted January 7, 2015 Report Posted January 7, 2015 Swanseajack, Thanks for your answer, and mayburyds also, but what does turning off scanning mean? I log out of FB and things like that(does that mean they are no longer running in the background till I log back in?) but I haven't turned wifi off. Never did on the Nexus either though.
Guest cjh-75 Posted January 7, 2015 Report Posted January 7, 2015 Exchanged mine at store yesterday....and still having same issues, will not charge from any usb port using the supplied cable. The '5th Jan' update was a complete lie, losing all confindence in this in now and opting for full refund.
Guest theadmans Posted January 7, 2015 Report Posted January 7, 2015 (edited) Just thought I would tell you my experience on this. Bought a HUDL 2 just before Xmas which would not charge using the supplied Charger and Lead. My son has a HUDL 1 so I unplugged the USB lead in his HUDL 1 charger and plugged it into the supplied HUDL 2 charger. Replacing this lead fixed the problem. Although I had a solution I rang Tesco to complain. They said they would send me a complete new charger and lead for the HUDL 2. A couple of days later I received the new charger and lead and it worked fine - I have had no problems since. I have not read the full 10 pages of this thread but my problem seemed to relate to the USB lead originally supplied with my HUDL 2. Edited January 7, 2015 by theadmans
Guest mayburyds Posted January 7, 2015 Report Posted January 7, 2015 Kate on the gate - I think the scanning is in relation to scanning for networks? I don't turn mine off and I have a virus checker running as well. Charged mine yesterday and it still has 58% charge left. Cheers.
Guest Swanseajack Posted January 7, 2015 Report Posted January 7, 2015 It's under wifi and advanced, there is an option called scanning always available, it drains you're battery.

It happens with any charger and lead.Even with PortaPow leads, which are the Mutt's Nuts. There is no 'magic' circuitry in the Hudl 1 or 2 charger. Edited January 7, 2015 by state-it
Guest stevehudl2 Posted January 7, 2015 Report Posted January 7, 2015 (edited) Its software related in my opinion, I got my hudl just before Christmas and the very same say I got it I had charge issues. The unit would wake on plugging it in and showed it was charging on the battery icon but the led would not light up and it did not charge, it did this no matter how many times I plugged it in but went away and has not been back since I restarted it. I'm thinking its a particular combination of software running at the time of being plugged in causing a conflict somewhere. The restart kills all programme properly and the conflict is gone. Now I know restarts don't fix it for everyone but a lot of programs load on boot, you wont even know some have started, everyone has different stuff installed but I bet there's a key part of the o.s they load when the problem arises. Maybe if everyone having charging problems posted every last app installed on there device we would find a pattern?, yes you will have to admit to having that goat porn app ha Edit, I'm not a list of apps but I full list of all processes when it won't charge would produce better results. Guest Kate on the Gate Posted January 7, 2015 Report Posted January 7, 2015 Thank you both Swanseajack and mayburyds for your answers. Think I might risk another one. I'm going to go for a refund though and then purchase another one and at least then the 28 days starts again. Tesco tech asked me what colour I'd got, but when asked, said there was no reason for asking and there was no particular colour causing probs. I've got blue if any one is interested.
Guest Jabbitt Posted January 8, 2015 Report Posted January 8, 2015 Double whammy for me again. I forced a reboot as it wasn't charging. Plugged it in, checked it was charging and went to bed. (11pm) I awoke at 6am and checked the Hudl. It was in a green light and the screen said charging and was stuck at 97%. Also the clock said it was 4:30! Another forced reboot and left it to charge properly up to 100% I bought mine in mid November. Is it took late to ask for refund. If my only option is a replacement, I'll hold out for the mythical update.
Guest Posted January 8, 2015 Report Posted January 8, 2015 (edited) Sorry, but if something can't keep the time it's a refund if that's what you need your hudl2 to do ..... call me old fashioned but know your rights. Edited January 8, 2015 by Guest
Guest Kate on the Gate Posted January 8, 2015 Report Posted January 8, 2015 (edited) OK, so, I'm doing this on my laptop because I've just come in from work and my Hudl 2 is as dead as a Dodo. It had 58% charge when I left at 11.00 am this morning. Plugged it in and it has battery charging sign that is the orange exclamation mark. Did the holding button for 20 count and it has come back with same exclamation mark. Not holding out much hope for tonight. I contacted Tech Support a little while ago and I have now got an answer. If I do this right it will appear below as if by magic, and then we've got it in writting from the horses mouth. Recently you requested personal assistance from our support centre. Below is a summary of your request and our response. If this issue is not resolved to your satisfaction, you may reopen it within the next 7 days.If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. Subject Hudl 2 Discussion Thread Response Via Email (Tim Topping) 07/01/2015 10.45 AM Dear Catherine Thank you for your e-mail regarding your hudl. A very small number of customers have raised concerns that their hudl 2 device sometimes fails to charge. This is issue can be resolved by holding down the power button for thirty seconds to reset the device. Alternatively, hold the power button down for a couple of seconds and select Power off, followed by OK. Let the tablet charge for several minutes whilst powered off, then power it back on. Once the tablet has restarted it should then charge normally. ****** We are however working on a software update which will be released to customers' devices this month. ****** Once this new software build has satisfied our rigorous testing process we will then go through the industry-standard certification process for Android devices via Google, after which it will be ready for customers to download. If you have any other issues, please do not hesitate to contact us again. Kind Regards, Tim Topping Tesco Tech Support Customer By Web Form (Catherine Kelly) 01/01/2015 06.49 PM My hudl2 is no longer charging. I purchased it on 16/12/2014 and am surprised to find thay whether I charge it on the 3 pin plug or through the usb it is saying 9% charged. Is this a common problem? Is it normally the plugs fault or the unit fault? Does it normally develop this quickly(unit is only 3 weeks old and only has myself as a user)? Whoopey doo, it's 23.50hrs now and it's got 97%. Time for bed now though. Edited January 10, 2015 by Kate on the Gate
Guest stokietom Posted January 10, 2015 Report Posted January 10, 2015 I'm confused with this issue. Is it hardware or software related?
Guest Jabbitt Posted January 10, 2015 Report Posted January 10, 2015 I'm confused with this issue. Is it hardware or software related? My vote is for software issue. That's why I'm hoping this new patch will fix the problem. Seeing as a reboot fixes the problem, it must be software. Unless anyone can prove otherwise!
Guest stokietom Posted January 10, 2015 Report Posted January 10, 2015 I've just called Tesco and spoke to a manager there, he said the software is still in testing and they are aiming to release it at the end of this month.
Guest christhedj Posted January 10, 2015 Report Posted January 10, 2015 Software. If it was hardware, there'd need to be a recall. It's about the way that Pegatron have implemented the way Android recognises chargers. It was designed to stop people using the wrong charger. All it has actually done is p*ss people off! :)
Guest Clever Trevor Posted January 10, 2015 Report Posted January 10, 2015 Has anyone had their Hudl 2 suddenly lose all the page apps so had to replace them today??? 10 Jan, 2015....
Guest glossywhite Posted January 12, 2015 Report Posted January 12, 2015 I don't, and should need to care whether this is caused hardware or software; the outcome is the same, ergo, mine is now sitting back in Tesco, and my money is back in my pocket. Trying to analyse why/when/how is irrelevant - if it doesn't work it doesn't work, and that makes me wary of giving a supermarket the role of supplying my IT products, fully working as intended. No, I never have had the false and ridiculous notion of thinking that Tesco are competent as an IT product vendor - their market is cheap cheese and value baken beans, and they aren't Google. However, a failure at such a fundamental level NEEDS to be fixed promptly, not "hopefully at the end of January" <blah>. Nice try - Hudl 1 was far better :)
