Guest r00tmydevices Posted January 21, 2015 Report Posted January 21, 2015 The code is TD-HFTP. P Thanks a bunch Paul.
Guest Mark_He Posted January 21, 2015 Report Posted January 21, 2015 Without using the 1/3 off code (what is the code please?) and/or Tesco Clubcard vouchers, £40 does seem pricey in relation to the cost that most of us paid for the tablet itself. Has anyone purchased one? If so, opinions please? Is it better or worse than using a cheaper third party Bluetooth keyboard along with existing Hudl 2 case? I tried both of the Tesco cases, soft touch plus leather one, but wasnt overly impressed with either so returned them. Purchased a third party 'Apple iPad' style slim magnetic case from Amazon for £7.99 which I preferred. Two options now would be purchase a separate third party Bluetooth keyboard for occasional use along with my existing case or go for the Tesco keyboard case and flog other case. For carrying around, I prefer a slim and light case as unlikely to spend long periods wanting to input lots of text but if in one place for extended periods of time a keyboard could be useful as opposed to frantikly tapping away at the screen, lol! Thanks. I like the Tesco case, although it's unnecessarily bulky. 3rd party keyboard seems like a fair option. My local Tesco don't have any of the keyboard cases out on display, and I'd like to get a closer look before deciding if 40 quid (less a third) is worth it. Basically this thread is a gigantic game of chicken waiting for someone else to drop £27 and then tell us if it was worth it [emoji1]

Guest r00tmydevices Posted January 24, 2015 Report Posted January 24, 2015 Have decided to go for this case. Will post my comments once it arrives at local store for collection in a few days...
Guest r00tmydevices Posted January 25, 2015 Report Posted January 25, 2015 For those wanting a Bluetooth keyboard but not prepared to shell out forty notes for the official Tesco keyboard case, what about this for a cheaper alternative: http://www.7dayshop.com/index.php/catalog/product/view/id/8243/s/freedom-expression-bluetooth-keyboard-for-ipad-iphone-android-tablets/?utm_source=7dayshop.com+Limited&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=5265454_2015-01-23-Braided+Cables&utm_content=WH2-BTFKEXPCLICK&dm_i=18LS,34UUM,DLF3NW,B8FYD,1 Please do your own research to decide if it's compatible or of required quality etc as I do not own nor have used one. Just a heads up really as it seemed a good price from a well known and reputable company as opposed to taking a risk from one of the many eBay or Amazon third party sellers. Hope it helps someone?
Guest esc4p3 Posted January 26, 2015 Report Posted January 26, 2015 It's really difficult. This keyboard case, or indeed any bluetooth keyboard for the HUDL2 comes under the heading "I don't really need one, but I sort of would like to try one". So the budget for a project with that heading is likely to run to about £5 at the most :D #skinflint

Just collected mine. Will post comments after charging and trying it out...
Guest pudpoh Posted January 27, 2015 Report Posted January 27, 2015 I got mine the other day, the case is well made and the keyboard works great, really impressed, saves the need to carry my laptop around for most of the things I need to do when I'm away from home now.
Guest r00tmydevices Posted January 27, 2015 Report Posted January 27, 2015 First impressions...not bad at all. I do like the finish of these 'soft touch' cases. Sadly returned the official Tesco hudl 2 Soft Case as found it a bit on the thick/bulky side. It was replaced with a much slimmer profile PU leather case. I've never used a Bluetooth keyboard with a mobile device such as a tablet before, so am adjusting to the smaller keyboard and especially that quite a few symbol keys have been moved around from those of a standard full-sze QWERTY keyboard. Got it sat on top of a laptop cooler tray. The rubber coating of the case prevents it from sliding around, so +1 for that. Biggest plus point for me so far is the fact you get a lot more real-estate onscreen. Whilst typing out this post in landscape mode for example, majority of the screen is no longer taken up with the onscreen keyboard (it's not displayed at all whilst the Bluetooth keyboard is active). In summary, I like it enough to keep it and continue using it. Will also hang onto my other slim case for when I want to carry my H2 around whilst travelling if I don't envisage the need to do much typing and want it to be as slim and light as possible. It's worth bearing in mind that ideally you will need a a fairly solid flat surface in order to get the best use out of one of these keyboard type cases. Is it worth spending £40 (in real money) on this case bearing in mind that's around a third of the cost of the H2 itself? In my opinion, only if you're likely to use regularly for long periods of time. If you're only likely to find the need to input a lot of text once in a blue moon, then perhaps your money is best kept in your wallet, lol! Hope that helps anyone still sat on the fence over whether or not to purchase one of these keyboard cases?

Very helpful thanks.....I will definitely keep an eye on the price to see if it does come down in the following months. I could be tempted :)

I could be tempted :) In my local small Tesco Metro, noticed whilst waiting for my click&collect order to be fetched from the warehouse, that they were advertising 3 for 2 (cheapest item free) on the limited range of H2 accessories on display. Not sure if, in larger stores, that includes this keyboard case or not as they only had the regular soft case without keyboard on display? Depends if you're after any other accessories I guess but it's another way of getting more bang for your buck in addition to using Clubcard points towards the purchase.
Guest r00tmydevices Posted January 29, 2015 Report Posted January 29, 2015 First negative I've found and it's a biggie unless there's a workaround?!? Once you've switched the keyboard on then paired it to the H2, if there has been no input activity for three minutes and the H2 screen then goes to sleep, shortly afterwards the Bluetooth connection between the two is lost. It does not seem to then pair up again by simply selecting the keyboard under Bluetooth devices in settings. I've had to switch Bluetooth off on H2, switch keyboard off then start pairing all over again. This happened a few times the other day, got annoying so I switched both off! Anyone else found this? I guess I could extend the three minute timeout before H2 goes to sleep but my battery doesn't last long at all as it is and this might cause it to run flat even quicker! :(
Guest pudpoh Posted January 29, 2015 Report Posted January 29, 2015 I've not had any issues with mine but then again I don't think I've let my tablet go to sleep while using it. Also with mine I only have to turn the keyboard on and it will connect and pair up automatically, I don't have to do anything in the Bluetooth settings to get it to pair.

Sounds like mine may have a problem then as it doesn't auto pair each time I switch it on after the inital setting up.
Guest GOMDroid Posted January 29, 2015 Report Posted January 29, 2015 (edited) The code is TD-HFTP. P Just be careful to understand about that code: it's for Tesco Direct ONLY. These things showed up in my grocery shopping lists (which is what the Hudl2 was bought for in my life) Interestingly I could not have the code applied because I was buying it from Tesco Grocery. I had a call with customer services and asked what they felt inclined to do about this oversight and basically they were uninterested. So, make sure you buy one from Tesco, and not from Tesco! Given the fun and games and lacking assistance from customer services over that, I decided not to buy one at all! I can only wish them good luck on trying to turn that "no sale" into a profit. So I decided to pick one of these ("these" being the separate bluetooth keyboard linked in the quoted post) up to go with my exisiting Tesco case. First impressions are good. It connected via bluetooth without issue, and so far has re-connected automatically. It's US layout, so I had to manually change that in Hudl settings. Physically it's a very similar size to the Hudl, and sits nicely in front of my Hudl resting partly on the bottom of the case, so it doesn't move. Keys seem decent for the price, but I'll need to write something substantial with it to be sure. Sizewise they're just larger than my fingertips, so accidental double-presses probably won't be a problem. The keys have a fair bit of travel to them which will also help with that. There's a row of hotkeys at the top, and I can get search, brightness, volume, media controls, and home key to work. The cut/paste keys don't seem to though. The arrow keys are a bit scrunched up to make it compact. It's black plastic on top with a fairly sturdy metal back. It came with a charger cable, a little adjustable stand (which I don't need, but I tested the Hudl in it and it seems to fit and hold well) and a neoprene slipcase, which was a nice extra touch. Mine did not come supplied with a separate stand or neoprene slipcase! Would you mind posting a photo of each please? Also is there a product code printed anywhere on the box, just to be sure we have identical products? Thanks.

Ok, photo of the total contents (edit: forgot the charger cable because I'd already thrown it into the "spare cables" drawer!), then the back of box and keyboard for numbers, and then my actual invoice for further numbers. The model number of the back of the keyboard is “icx-combi”, and 7day's own SKU was WH2-BTFKEXP. You can see the box says it includes the stand and case. As of right now the website description mentions the case but not the stand. Edit: peering at the website some more, I can see the keyboard layout in the picture is slightly different to what I've received. I think you pay your £10 and take your luck! Guest r00tmydevices Posted January 31, 2015 Report Posted January 31, 2015 Mark_He Well that clears everything up, I have the official Tesco hudl 2 Bluetooth keyboard case & stand (it's all one piece) whilst you have a 7days shop separate Bluetooth keyboard which comes supplied with its own slip case for the keyboard and a stand for the h2. Thanks for replying and posting photos. Thought I was going to have to get in touch with Tesco if they had already released a v2 of my keyboard case just days after I collected mine!

OK, sorry if my post was confusing - although I was replying to your post about the 7day keyboard, I can see how I was a bit vague! I've editied to be clearer.

From the comments on your keyboard, it sounds like it might even be better than the £40 Tesco one! :O Edited January 31, 2015 by r00tmydevices
