Root and Bootloader discussion

As long as we can still root devices, (i.e. ZTE / Vodafone don't patch the root loophole), then I don't see that it particularly limits us in any way. It means if you totally cock up boot image AND recovery you can't save yourself via the bootloader, but that's easily avoided by not flashing both at the same time.

Good news indeed, if we can get custom recovery does that mean custom roms also?

Good work, what can we do with this change?  Can we install zip files like xposed framework? If so can you chare a link and tuturial. Thanks

No, first someone needs to build a custom recovery (such as TWPR). I don't have time to do this yet, but I might just mod stock recovery to allow install of test-signed zips.

Just signed up as I have one of these phones...  Brilliant work Paul.  I'm experienced in making roms for unsupported devices and just downloaded the package from the other thread, so once I'm sure how to flash a custom recovery safely on the SU6, I'll give creating trwp a go as well.

For reference (although i'm sure you know this) I used:

dd if=/sdcard/recovery.new.img of=/dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/recovery

Thanks Paul.  I figured it was along those lines, just wanted to be sure before I tried :)

Wow go lonespeaker! If you need a Guinea pig to test on I'll be first in line :)

I just did a quick TWRP build, PM me if you're willing to test it. I don't have a device myself.

Huh, WTF!? ZTE/Vodafone have left SELinux in permissive mode (androidboot.selinux=permissive). That's actually quite serious, don't think such builds should even pass Google's CTS as far as I know. :o

Send me a link KonstaT and i'll have a look later.

I've PM'd you willing to test if I'm first offering. What would the flash method be?

wow that was quick, I'll give it a go tomorrow if you can send me the link please.

I'm just reinstalling my kimsufi dedi to use for building SU6 stuff.   how quick things are moving is great!

Would be the way that Paul mentions above :)

Just an update to keep you all in the loop. Flashed TWRP by Konstat and it WORKS! Or at least it boots into TWRP anyway ha ha. JUst a touchscreen issue to sort to get to the next step, selecting things is difficult and requires triple tap/hold combinations and is quite frustrating. But it boots so that's good?!

That's excellent news, means we have freedom of the device.  I've just started to setup my github repo's which I'll publish my work as I go, hopefully I'll get started tomorrow once I get TWRP built. so excited :)

I presume once we get a working custom recovery we will be able to flash supersu via recovery and we can then forget about kingroot?

Root it with KingRoot, then install Super Sume ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=darkslide.com.supersume ), run it and click on the android bubble icon, then it will install SuperSu, after reboot device ( it auto-reboot ) just uninstall or desactivate KingRoot.

I'm thinking to install the recovery we would need root first as I've been installing the test build recovery through terminal emulator. So we would have to use Kingroot first as it stands.

I know that way, just thinking for in the future with new roms or for people buying this phone in the future.

You need root to install recovery and likely always will.

Latest update on Recovery is still touch issues in the test builds so far. I have faith in Konstat though i'm sure he will figure it out. Anyone with any ideas on how to fix feel free to weigh in though.
