Guest spikex Posted February 23, 2003 Report Posted February 23, 2003 Looking at this new SPV I can only come to these conclusions... They either... A) Hired Elves with small hands to test the original SPV :) They did it on purpose C) They hired a 5 year old to do the designing Because looking at the original SPV I can't believe they didn't pick up on the design flaws such as the small and tightly packed keys. They say it's designed for one handed operation but for me it takes two hands to use it properly! I feel as though my SPV is going to drop out of my hand when my thumb is reaching for the keys at the bottom. The screen is barely visible without the backlight on and was it not obvious that a joystick would be alot more easy to use than a D pad? It might be HTC's first attempt at this type of device, so I'll give them that but just how could you let these things slip by? Looking back now, it's like the height of stupidity or 'shortcuts'. Just a few thoughts that I had at 1:30AM... Spike.
Guest HelloDave Posted February 23, 2003 Report Posted February 23, 2003 Hired Elves with small hands to test the original SPVlol - maybe they come in at half the cost? Many hands make light work... The screen is barely visible without the backlight on That's true for most colour screens though, apart from the latest (as on the Tanager) transreflective TFTs. Ever wondered why the T68 or 7650 revert to a monochrome display when they're idle? was it not obvious that a joystick would be alot more easy to use than a D pad? Possibly not for elves? :) Seriously though, maybe they thought that a joystick would catch on things or something - perhaps T68s or 7650s don't exist at HTC central? Having said that, I don't think the 7650 'stick is that good anyway. The design of the SPV leaves a little to be desired, but it could be worse - maybe if M$ had actually beta tested SmartPhone '02 we wouldn't be complaining as much?
Guest Chris b.a.r.f. Posted February 23, 2003 Report Posted February 23, 2003 On pinball machines playfield something called Mylar is used, it's fully transparent and virtually indestructable, the drawback is that when it stick it wont come off again but it should be able to protect your screen forever Mylar's tough but it can be scratched - you'd have to be trying pretty hard though, probably breaking the rest of the phone in the process. For anyone who's interested, it's the same stuff Stanley use to coat their pro tape-measures :) Manufactured by Dupont, the Teflon people. So there you go.
Guest Firaas Posted February 23, 2003 Report Posted February 23, 2003 Is Firaas employed or in any way dependant on Orange?I only depend on them to give me my mobile communications :) O's man/mole on site. There's several employees of Orange on this site, and many others are probably watching. They're not moles ;)
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted February 23, 2003 Report Posted February 23, 2003 Check out writeshield from PocketPCTechs.com - I have one of these cut to size on my Tanager, perfect! They also have 3 new headset adaptors on there for PPC Phone Edition (which also work with SPV). I have all 3, and will be putting a review up soon. Suffice to say, they're cool :) P
Guest HoneyPanther Posted February 23, 2003 Report Posted February 23, 2003  xanadu, or is that just another spelling of Firaas. U lack Logic. An opposition spook, would to be trying get the bugs out. Unidentified they cannot be fixed. Still with me, or R U already lost. Everyone on the site [already has] / [is interested in getting] an SPV Didn't buy the h.set to build my life around, it's just a UTILITY. I get really irritated as a consumer if I've been intentionaly sold faulty "goods". I AM AN END USER, not part of the dev. team & don't want to get involved. Just, pay, go, use. I resent my time being taken up trying to get it working. Orange would not pay my charge rates as a s.ware engnr. they R far too cheap. Orange know my value as aclient. They apologized, refunded twice, and sent another one f.o.c. I didn't 'upgraded' from an entry level set. If U could read & comprehend, I started :- 'Supreme' good concept. It's the cheap greed for profit build that caused the problems. I'd like them to get rid of staff who can't cut it because... bad 4 Orange! Won't continue with this. Learn to read, and, UNDERSTAND. As 4 me, if they don't shape up soon, I'm off to Hutchinson, the original company - Hutchinson Wam Poa. Nothing 2 U. 150+ & 500+ posts. U don't need comm's, U need a life. Peace :)
Guest Firaas Posted February 23, 2003 Report Posted February 23, 2003  xanadu, or is that just another spelling of Firaas. U lack Logic. ... 150+ & 500+ posts. U don't need comm's, U need a life. What is it with you and going against forum members? The least you can do is be nice, especially when you've only made six posts since joining over two months ago. If you don't like the SPV, send it back. If you don't like people on the forum, don't use it. If you don't like Orange, go for another network. Don't moan about it - let's be honest, most users on the forum couldn't care less if you hate me, xanadu, or the SPV. In fact, most people would probably disagree with you on the SPV. It's a brilliant phone, and I wouldn't change it for any other phone. And as for your last point: I AM AN END USER, not part of the dev. team & don't want to get involved. Just, pay, go, use. Go buy a Nokia NK502. I'm sure you'll love it.
Guest xanadu Posted February 23, 2003 Report Posted February 23, 2003 I'm off to Hutchinson, the original company - Bye then :) ;)
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted February 24, 2003 Report Posted February 24, 2003 twisted: 150+ & 500+ posts. U don't need comm's, U need a life. I think you are mistaking getting a life with being an active member who joins in conversations and generally tries to help out other members.
Guest Chris b.a.r.f. Posted February 25, 2003 Report Posted February 25, 2003 "]Tanager is same width, VERY slightly taller, and noticeably thinner. How's the SPVx to hold, Paul? Do the SPVx materials (eg.g paint, plastics) seem better quality? Not that the SPV feels insubstantial, as such, it's just not as nice to hold as my old SL45 (which was quite simply brilliant quality..erm..erm..personified :) )
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted February 25, 2003 Report Posted February 25, 2003 The materials are pretty similar I guess, but the paint looks like it won't chip off so easily... P
Guest Chris b.a.r.f. Posted February 25, 2003 Report Posted February 25, 2003 Ace - my SPV looks very 2nd-hand now, after 2½ months :) How about the Shape of the SPVx? Is it comfortable to hold? I heard it mentioned that it had a rubber-feel back (?)
Guest benny Posted February 25, 2003 Report Posted February 25, 2003 SPVx - Deviant edition...encased in leather and spikes.
