Just how good or bad is a £55 Android phone? This is a question we're hoping to answer with the Doogee Nova Y100X phone courtesy of TinyDeal. At this price point, of course, you aren't going to get stellar specs and as with the Moto G (which is twice the price!), it's all about compromising in the right place.

At the heart of the Y100X is the MediaTek MT6582 quad-core CPU. Now, James and I have often sung the praises of this processor... but it's unquestionably a bit long in the tooth now. In this guise however, it appears to have been given a new lease of life courtesy of Android Lollipop with things, from our initial play, running along smoothly. 1GB of RAM is on board and there is 8GB storage supplemented by microSD. The phone doesn't have LTE (unsurprisingly), but i'd give that up no question for a decent screen and the 720P IPS OGS panel on this phone (with the currently trendy '2.5D glass') is impressive.

A 2200mAh will likely provide reasonable battery life, although using both SIM slots (like most Chinese import devices, this is a dual SIM unit) will hit the battery harder of course.

Out of the box, we're fairly impressed... but stay tuned for our full thoughts to follow!
