Hozelock announce the 'Cloud Controller' watering system

Forget about the Internet of Things, the IoT, it's really the INTERNET OF ALL THE THINGS (IOATT), as we've seen from the vast range of announcements at IFA this week. The latest device to get the cloud treatment is the humble hose pipe, courtesy of leading UK brand Hozelock. Bear with us though... this is actually far more sensible that it might appear.

Hozelock’s new 'Cloud Controller', set to be priced at £114.99 and available at the end of the year (yup, you've missed the watering season this year folks), allows you to control your watering via your mobile, courtesy of an application that apparently 'even technophobes will find easy to install and understand', removing the need for configuration of complex schedules on the controller itself. The controller is partnered with a proprietary hub, which plugs into your Internet router. The app itself can suggest watering patterns based on local weather data, which seems pretty neat.

We've actually been looking for something like this ourselves and have been tracking Blossom on Kickstarter. Where the Hozelock solution has an advantage is that it's all self contained - no need for an additional pump or indeed any additional hardware, it'll connect straight to the hose in your garden (which has a good chance of being from Hozelock already) and you're ready to go.

We're going to get hold of a unit and give it a try - watch this space for further thoughts!
