In theory it could be a fair way to control access to a limited stock of devices, but in practice it hasn't turned out that way - invites seem to arrive at random, are sold on and well, it just sours the whole process. If you are looking to pick up a OnePlus 2 or X however... there's good news! Effective immediately, the OnePlus 2 can now be purchased without an invite! 2016 flagship killer it isn't, but it is still a decent device at a very compelling price.
