Guest HelloDave Posted February 23, 2003 Report Posted February 23, 2003 Thanks for that Firaas - it didn't even occur to me! :) They are having a laugh on that site though - £19.95 for pocket slideshow!!! And i'm sure all the other apps used to be about £3 cheaper on average in the old days of the SPV...
Guest Soyale Posted February 26, 2003 Report Posted February 26, 2003 I can categorically say that your phone number won't be used for spam and won't be sold on to anyone. The only reason we ask for it is to deliver your applications over the air to your phone. The Mobile Email wizard is a piece of software Orange are promoting in store at the moment i.e. to allow you to configure certain eMail providers easily. You'll notice that it only requires username, password and eMail address, the rest of the settings it knows. SMS Tools has been signed as has been pointed out an plugs a hole in the SMS functionality i.e. to clean out all messages from a folder. The Favourites application can be used to add favourites to your phone quickly, I believe all the favourites there are SPV friendly. HTH jp
Guest swanseastu Posted February 26, 2003 Report Posted February 26, 2003 I used the phone config last night and it worked very well - No NTL email settings though (Soyale if your reading!) I dont use GPRS so needed to set up my ISP details to dial in, and its done it well. SMS 's arrived quickly and the links took me off to collect the updates. The best thing was it saved me using that lovely SPV keybpad to set all this lot up, it can take ages with many jey presses on the phone, this was all on the PC - Excellent :) I was a little aprehensive (sp?) before putting in my details, but overall I was impressed with the site. Not tried the other apps yet, but delete all SMS sounds good (I assume it also does emails)
Guest Ron Jeremy Posted February 26, 2003 Report Posted February 26, 2003 Swanseastu, I was under the impression that NTL mail access was web only and not POP. If however I am misinformed maybe you would be kind enough to let me know what the incoming and outgoing mail server names for NTL's pop mail are. I can see to it that NTL is supported in a future of Orange Mobile Email.
Guest Soyale Posted February 26, 2003 Report Posted February 26, 2003 About inputting your username and password details. We DEFINITELY do not store these, they are passed through to the configuration builder which builds and hosts your config package. Glad you had a good experience, I'll pass it on to the team. I'll also pass on your request for NTL to be added as an eMail provider. The SMS tools only does SMS. The reason? Usually you would snc your eMail with your desktop or direct with your provider. In either scenario you are probably managing your eMail from a desktop machine and hence the mailbox will automatically be cleaned. Internally we use MMIS which is really a great solution however it's an enterprise server and I don'tuse my SPV for personal mail so my assertions may be false! jp
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted February 26, 2003 Report Posted February 26, 2003 I asked for NTL to be added months ago ;) glad it's being done now :)
Guest Ron Jeremy Posted February 26, 2003 Report Posted February 26, 2003 We'll make a post here on modaco when NTL POP mail config is an available option. Hopefully it will be soon enough to appease the many NTL users out there
Guest swanseastu Posted February 26, 2003 Report Posted February 26, 2003 pop.ntlworld.com smtp.ntlworld.com Dial up number is 0845 455 0520 Are the pop settings, if you need any more info please ask, or , there is a good list of all the settings at http://www.ntlworld.com/help/settings.htm I'll keep chcking back as I like the style, and ease of use Cheers
Guest Ron Jeremy Posted February 27, 2003 Report Posted February 27, 2003 Ok you can now configure you SPV's for NTL pop mail service, check it out. Report any problems or suggestions you have here. Happy mailing SPVers RJ
Guest Lojt Posted February 28, 2003 Report Posted February 28, 2003 It seems like they removed the warbirds demo?
Guest fraser Posted February 28, 2003 Report Posted February 28, 2003 Would it be possible for a version of the E-mail setup tool to work as a Windows service? I'd like to have a utility that automatically sets the smtp outgoing mail server to smtp.orange.net whilst on GPRS, and switch it back to smtp.ntlworld.com when I am using the cradle. Otherwise, I have to undock my phone to send an e-mail from it, paying for the privledge of using GPRS when I have a nice free connection available. :)
Guest Soyale Posted February 28, 2003 Report Posted February 28, 2003 Fraser, everything is possible! However I think it's unlikely that we'll be implementing that particular feature. Most frustrating for me is changing my outgoing eMail server on all my accounts depending on where I am (home, office, on the move etc etc) jp
Guest fraser Posted February 28, 2003 Report Posted February 28, 2003 Oh, well. I can but dream... :)
