Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted February 24, 2003 Report Posted February 24, 2003 Eacatly the same, however i forgot to back up... :/
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted February 24, 2003 Report Posted February 24, 2003 What OS/system spec/usb setup are you both running? I have XP Pro SP1/1.66ghz cpu/cradle going direct into USB port on my mboard. Ran the update, it said to remove the battery and then run the update again, howver i forgot to put the phone back in its cradle. Now i get the 101 error...
Guest pibrahim Posted February 24, 2003 Report Posted February 24, 2003 Windows XP Pro / Athlon 1800+... Not sure why phone seemed to lose connection midway through upgrade, charging light vanished too.
Guest youngerpants Posted February 24, 2003 Report Posted February 24, 2003 XP Pro SP1 PIII 850, IBM T21 Thinkpad :)
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted February 24, 2003 Report Posted February 24, 2003 I didn't notice. Should the update have updated the Canary version by this point, as i am still on PV v0.91
Guest pibrahim Posted February 24, 2003 Report Posted February 24, 2003 I'm still on 0.91 too. I don't think there's *anything* we can do - I've tried erasing the IPSM, leaving the battery out for a bit, seeing if the upgrade program would work while the SPV was stuck on Canary screen, etc., no luck. Did you guys both not finish the update process either then? How far did you get?
Guest youngerpants Posted February 24, 2003 Report Posted February 24, 2003 OK, Just rebooted, left battery off during reboot running update again, seems to be running!!!!!!! Watch this space!!!
Guest DiGiTaL iNSaNiTY Posted February 24, 2003 Report Posted February 24, 2003 Looks like i'm another one stuck at the 3 Colour Canary screen. Ran the update, and it complained it lost connection asking me to remove battery e.t.c. On rebooting the phone, it just boots to the 3 Colour canary screen. Even an IPSM Erase hasn't fixed it .. Oh, i'm still on PV v0.91 too.
Guest youngerpants Posted February 24, 2003 Report Posted February 24, 2003 edit, I noticed I had multiple active syncs in my system tray rebooted PC & Phone seems to be working , erase 82% complete
Guest matth Posted February 24, 2003 Report Posted February 24, 2003 pibrahim - I've got the same problem as you. Got part way through the update and then lost the active synch connection and the charging light went off. What's going with this. stuck on the canary screen with version v0.91 on it now. what the hell is going on ?
Guest pibrahim Posted February 24, 2003 Report Posted February 24, 2003 At first I thought - hmmm, is my charger dodgy? But no, its as good as gold - but even now, the charging light won't work. I've got my phone in the cradle stuck on the 3 colour screen, battery's out, but the light's still off. Damn useless thing.
Guest youngerpants Posted February 24, 2003 Report Posted February 24, 2003 HOW TO RESOLVE THE FAILED UPDATE ISSUE Remove phone from cradle remove battery reboot pc (worked for me) leave battery off for ages (same length of time a 2 yr old laptop takes to reboot) reattach battery and switch on put back in the cradle rerun update the phone screen tells you it's erasing, then upgrading follow the on screen instructions :) ;) :D  phew! hope it works for ya'll
Guest pibrahim Posted February 24, 2003 Report Posted February 24, 2003 You didn't need to use your backup or anything? When you reboot the phone, does it still go to the bootloader screen? Will the update run from there?
Guest youngerpants Posted February 24, 2003 Report Posted February 24, 2003 Nope, didn't use my backup (its an old one from when the dk update came out but i never upgraded) when the phone switched on, it was on the canary screen, so i just put it back in the cradle and ran the update good luck

Didn't anyone read it? do have to admit mine went smoothly first time
Guest WeZ01y Posted February 24, 2003 Report Posted February 24, 2003 hmmmm I did exaclty what you did and left the battery out for 10 mins too. but when i put it back in after a reboot winxp came up with Found new hardware..... then said the hardware is not installed properly and may not work properly : lol itdetected it as a device :
Guest youngerpants Posted February 24, 2003 Report Posted February 24, 2003 Richie, you are right, I guess we all come here as a first port of call for technical info on the spv  but I not one to rtfm anyway :)
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted February 24, 2003 Report Posted February 24, 2003 still nothing :/, did you run through the update setup and overwrite files etc...?
Guest DiGiTaL iNSaNiTY Posted February 24, 2003 Report Posted February 24, 2003 Thanks for that YoungerPants, Rebooted everything, (Even turned the house lights off then off again :) ) And now update is carrying on again.. Dam, and i went and erased my IPSM for nothing... doh !!! Thanks again
Guest pibrahim Posted February 24, 2003 Report Posted February 24, 2003 Mine's getting worse... Before the PC reboot, I at least got the XP-sound of a device being connected, which I always get when I plug into the cradle, before Activesync runs. Now I don't even get the familiar sound of my PC recognising it... :/
Guest pipin Posted February 24, 2003 Report Posted February 24, 2003  have just got off the phone having spoke with O techical help they said that they were ware of this problem "NOW" ( BLOODY right they were aware i made sure of that ) they would log my call-time-report and get back to me when they have run further tests on this problem. ( Further F***ing tests did,nt they test it on all platfroms b4 it was released? seems not ) he surgested that i try another computer or pop along to my nearsest Orange SHOP and they will be more than happy to install update. great my nearest O.Shop is over 25 miles away B*****d Orange
Guest WeZ01y Posted February 24, 2003 Report Posted February 24, 2003 ;) :D  YEAH!!!! got it to werk... after about 3 reboots and doing exactly what youngerpants said it worked and windows XP even detected the phone as a microsoft USB device while it was at the canary screen. Seems as though you have to put the phone in the cradle just as the Press the action button for boot loader and anyother key to continue screen comes up :) yeah! Thanks all
Guest pibrahim Posted February 24, 2003 Report Posted February 24, 2003 Figured out my lack of connection notification sound problem - volume was down, oops :) Still can't get the upgrade to run though - same connection error as before. When you connected your phones into the cradle, did ActiveSync turn green? Mine stays grey.
Guest WeZ01y Posted February 24, 2003 Report Posted February 24, 2003 nope activesynch stays grey... Do what younger did but keep tryin and put the phone in the cradle when it says: Press action key to run boot loader or anyother key to continute... The bottom left hand side of the screen on the phone should then turn from serail to USB and then windows should detect a USB device Then once it detected a Microsoft USB synch device run the update again and it should werk if it does not work try agian and again and again your phone is definately not broken because i thought mine was.. and it aint Ta
Guest youngerpants Posted February 24, 2003 Report Posted February 24, 2003 pibrahim. It took a while, but the phone screen changed after a bit. Make sure you leave the battery off for a couple of mins activesync stayed grey (weird!) and the led on the phone did nothing
