Ever get the impression the SPV has been a massive BETA test for orange?

They get lots of free testing and problem solving and use it to tailor new technology based on the hard work people here have shared with us.

I'm glad to have the phone and the use of this forum, but a little let down they look like releasing a new phone using all the good ideas and user feedback from this source.

It makes great business sence to get all this for free but it's a real poke in the eye to the dedicated people behind this site and the developments in software we have seen for the phone.

(just my take on things)

just incase I read the instructions wrong, what exactly are you supposed to do to update the SPV? I Windows ME and can't get it to work! whoever replies, please be exact in regards to the instructions. cheers.

With all the stupid rubbish endured by SPV users in regards to orange's complete stupidity and lack of intelligence with the SPV. I have decided to get a P800. orange should stick to whatever it is they do well, its not making phones. from the glaring omissions to the numerous bugs, its amazing that they made these mistakes. with all the phones out now that we can all see, and use as a basis how did they make all these mistakes? we all knew what should be on the handset, how come they didn't? leave make handsets to the professionals like ericsson, sonyericsson, nokia, motorola and even sony. orange you haven't got a clue. god, they can't even get an update right. maybe they should give up and leave voda and the rest to it! i've been on all networks and only orange have messed up to this magnitude with a handset!

Actually, Orange don't make the phones HTC does and Microsoft wrote the OS. Good luck with your P800 though, it looks like a cool phone, although it's a bit big and pricey!

I have rung Orange and they have said that they have contacted Microsoft who are frantically working on the problem.

Does anyone else have the problem :

"Caupgradeut has caused error in GDI.exe"

I go to click NEXT to instal the damn thing and the above message appears.

I dont think I can get as far as the rest of you.

HELP !!!

Just do a simple Search on this site, or even simpler, look at the Topic Headings in the Main Forum!!

To answer your question: Yes, people with Win 98 SE & ME are all getting the same error!

A work round solution has also been suggested on this site.

Posted

blade001, if you are asking about the certification lock, then as reported in numerous places over the past couple of days, no - it does not re-certify the phone and it remains unlocked for unsigned applications.

Hoo Soddin Ray.......

Right heres how you do it..... Start the download without backing up, 1hr before going to work, stuff it up completly, swear and curse a lot, shout at the wife and kids blaming them for everything, rip out the battery and leave chucked on the floor remove the sim card and stick in your 10yr old sons Nokia NK402 (about 30 yrs old) go to work and complete a 14hr shift, missing vital phone calls because the nokia has no vibration.... come home at 5am and switch the pc on, put sim back in SPV, stick battery on and admire pretty coloured screen, remove battery reboot, Hard reset, delete ibsm thingy make a cup of tea, spend next 3 hrs rebooting sticking in cradle, uninstalling Activesync re-installing activsync, in cradle out cradle run update, reboot PC after 4th blue screen crash, pick orifices whilst waiting for scandisk to finish, removw battery and try and get it in the cradle whilst switching on holding all buttons down, spilling tea on pc, kick the cat, Reboot the fridge and microwave run update again and again cross fingers toes legs arms whilst clutching 4 leaf clover and lucky rabbot foot, and wait yes yes YES its updating, deleting......... updating...... its worked,!!!!!! No wait stuck on sunset screen now..... remove battery, restart.... YES YES YES ITS ALIVE!!!!! minus settings, contacts ringtones, applications, appointments etc etc etc,... No GPRS, No internet. go to bed for much needed sleep....

I LOVE MY SPV>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Cheers for all the advice guys i got there in the end Phew.....

run the update and then run the french installer but do not overwrite the files. This will perform the upgrade for you from a 98 or ME pc.
