RMWD - Dosnt work mate, just tried :) Best thing todo is restore the ol bootloader i rekon!

I did wonder as when I looked again today I have essentially now got a pre update SPV with bootloader 0.81 with bootloader text missing.

Anyway I now know that loading the bootloader using USBterm to an updated SPV can stop the phone working completely. Lucky I had a complete backup and well that works anyway.

Funny thing is I'm not sure I gor any benefit from the update so I may stay as I am. After all I can backup at will and restore easily.

Try bootloader 0.93. Surely I'm not the only person to have this working???

It's perfect.

Open offer to anybody interested.

Send me your 8 meg SD cards and I'll put the 0.93 bootloader on it and post it back to you (I will return it registered, you can post it to me how you like, but I recommend registered as I won't be responsible if it disappears in the post). When I return it, the only thing on it will be the bootloader so don't send it to me if you have a backup or data on it that you want to preserve.

Send me a PM if you're interested and we can exchange postal details.

No money, no strings.

This works great for me. But you install it at your own risk. I won't stump up for a replacement SPV if it doesn't work for you.

Retallick Hi, do you know how you got bootloader 0.93 and I've got 0.81. I got my phone in December and ran the update that day. I backed up my entire SPV the day before doing the UK upgrade. I am confused why I haven't got the same bootloader as you have. Thank you for your bootloader card offer and I may ytake you up on that, but at present my SPV is working fine. Only thing that is noticeably different is the lock backlight bug, but even that is not very important.

Thanks anyway.

do you know how you got bootloader 0.93

I bought my SPV in January but had it replaced in Feb due to a fault on my original phone. The replacement came with 0.93 ready loaded only a few days before the recent update. I can't remember what version was on the original as I never paid any attention.

At last someone else has done it. I was starting to feel like a social outcast.

Maybe I still am?

can someone help me with this?

i've tried 2 different PC's and 3 different operating systems and still can't do anything with USB term.exe :)

PC 1 - winXP: usbterm just sits on the command prompt and doesn't do anything whatever i type in

PC 2 - win2000: 'Cannot open terminal handle!'

PC 2 - win98: does nothing, exactly the same as XP

any ideas what i'm doing wrong?

You can only get it if you have backed it up before doing the update :D

Wow !! Thanx retallick !!

Another question now...

What are the main diffrenses between versions ? I Know that with 0.98 you CANT have a backup, and you need USBTerm.exe

Last and very critical question !

How do I install one ? (i have 0.98, so i will prob install 0.93) ??? :)

You have to get the bootloader onto an SD first. I didn't have to do that bit as I had a previous backup.

To get the file onto the SD you need a PC SD adapter and some software called WinHex. You shouldn't have any trouble finding the software, but I can't give you any tips on how to use it as I've never done it.

Then use USBTerm to restore the bootloader... but once restored you don't need USBTerm again. Take care to just pick the command to restore the Bootloader & nothing else.

0.93 is the only really useful bootloader. As you said, you have a full set of backup and restore options with it. 0.98 is a waste of time as far as I can tell, but I don't know anything about 0.91.

By the way, I can't take credit for the zip file, I just happened to know where it was.

I was also lucky and had the 0.93 bootloader in an old backup.

I can't see any difference between versions 0.91 and 0.93 of the bootloader; my first SPV ran 0.91, the replacement on 0.93 but both did the same thing, had the same power on shortcut (power & voice memo) etc. I'd say use 0.93 if you can just becuase it's newer - they must have fixed something!

Cool !!!

I think i have done it !

I have load bootloader v0.93 succesfully ! and now i am backing up my IPSM to my SD !

Will try to restore later on !

Thank you very much for your help !

...now loading the IPSM into the phone....

(quick Question) - When a new update comes up from Oragnge and i install it, after if i restore my IPMS, will have the phone settings as i have them now ? Is this a real Backup ? Will the phone be Un-certifyed after ?

...Restoring complete !

Rebooting now !!

YESSSSSSS !!!

Everything is in place !

Once more I thank you ALL !!

Great, gald you've succeeded.

I can only report on my own experience. I have a de-certified phone and I have tested my backups. The phone is still de-certified after restoring.

The online updates don't affect the bootloader, that only happens when running an update like the one done a few weeks ago via O's web site. The moral is, take a full backup before any update and keep it safe until you are happy.

From the looks of this thread you are in a very small minority to have a decent bootloader on your SPV. It looks like most people gave up.

Ah, i forgot all about this thread :)

Funny, cos this morning i found a guy at work who hadn't done the UK update so i took a copy of his Bootloader and restored it to my phone ;) (then i promptly overwrote with a ISPM backup :( Doh)

Never mind, at least it's on my phone now, only prob is the menu options 0-7 are missing but thankfully they are posted in this thread :D

All working as it should :(

Hm... Full Backup is not backing up the IPSM is it ?

Full Backup is Full Backup from the Bootloader Menu, right ?

Yes, but if i do a Full Back up and have an upgrade, the Full Backup will de-grade my phone or i will have the same settings/data/etc but in an updated version ? :)
