I have just checked the website and it has been updated....

They have taken out the bit where it says it will work with ME and 98 and are now just saying 2000 and XP - Nice....

Now thats what O calls a fix

Well at least something appears to be happening! How long did it take to build Rome?

Have you tested by going into Programs, More, Settings, About? Your Operator ROM version should be 1.3.5.6 for UK (or 1.3.6.5 for France).

Have you got the UK ROM?

I can also confirm it worked for me :)

(See separate Topic posted by Thruk: "Try this Win ME/UK Update work-around")

Thanks Thruk

Yep its 1.3.5.6

just ran the french install file from within the ruu folder (CaUpgradeUtFRA) as long as the rest of the uk install package is there it seems the fix works fine :) ;)

anybody needs the file just ask.

This MAY come back to a report I fed back when I worked for 156 - a customer rang in to ask why his USB cradle wasn't visible to Windows. I asked "what version of Windows?" and he replied "Win95". Although I shouldn't have (O doesn't support Windows!) I explained that it's a USB-linked cradle, and to make it work he'd need to download the USB/ OSR2 upgrade from ww.Microsoft.com And then I fed the problem back via the "Gandalf" error reporting system as a potential problem. Could be that the "operating system caveat" simply means "we don't do Win95".

Just follow the instructions as originally posted elsewhere by Thruk. Take my word for it - it works a treat!

No idea how to copy another topic here, but it's titled:

"Try this Win ME/UK update work-around".

I can only assume (especially from other posts) that it also works with Win 98 & 98SE.

Can you let me know when the official Win98 SE fix is available from O and known to be working without hacking, as I am willing to wait for a pain free upgrade being short on time.

Hi all. After a lot of messing about I have managed to get the upgrade to work on a 98SE machine. The trick seems to be making sure the French .exe file is in the RUU folder, and then running it from there. I have already noticed better battery performance, as I use the 'phone to play music a lot. Also my signal strength indicator is one bar better than normal. I live in Enfield, north London, and the Orange coverage isn't brilliant. Stuff seems to execute faster, as well. Maybe that's just me, but I can SEE a difference in speed. Also, if you read the Word doc it tells you not to install using a USB hub, so that might be worth knowing. My initial efforts were via a hub, but in retrospect it's hard to say whether that had any effect.

I would respectfully suggest that you ask Orange, Dude!

Most folk on this site will have already updated using the FR/UK work-around, which I can assure you is pain free and only takes about 10 mins. You even have the benefit of English instructions posted under that Topic now!
