Seems to me that those of us with "state of the arc" OS such as Win 98, 98SE & ME have been overlooked

(Anyone with 2000/NT/XP etc should be able to find a solution on this site somewhere).

I guess Microsoft will wheel out the usual statement that they do not support old??? operating systems. I have already sent a request to Orange and will note their reply with interest.

No-where on the packaging or anywhere else are minimum system requirements stated.

Come on you hackers/unlockers. How about a sharewhere USB driver for 98SE/ME edition as microsoft have forgotten how to do it:!:

I purchased the SPV on the strength :) HA HA of microsofts involvement.

Well I've got it working fine on my laptop!

Toshiba Satellite S2800-300 (Upgraded Model)

P3 650

256MB RAM

30Gb HDD

DVD/CDRW Combi

WinXP Pro SP1

Using my phone in the cradle with the self charging mod, had a few problems to start with, I noticed if I tried to use the phone as a modem by plugging it into another port, it wanted to re-install the device and it totally screwed things up, so I can only use it in the one USB port so I'd advise if you have trouble you do that aswell, just use it in the port you originally installed it in.

Warren your a star! I agree, why they didnt release this originally as a solution I'll never know, but the only thing that gets me is why all the pictures aren't displayed correctly, they keep dropping the colors down to 256 colors, and also animated GIF's dont display properly. I know its not my laptop playing up as it works fine with a normal dialup, so I'm guessing its the way O transmit the data, that they compress the images further to reduce loading times. Surely there is some way of getting round this? Its not so much a problem, just a pain in the arse!

Also I notice it keeps disconnecting me if the connection isn't used for a period of time (the phone, not the laptop), so do you reckon i should set up an active ping or something to keep it alive?

P.S.

I'm going to have a go at porting the driver to the 9x platform. Dont get your hopes up though!

I've succeded in connected my computer to the internet using my SPV, but it seem to use a GSM connection, not a GPRS one. The icon on top of the phone is the double pointers, not the G ...

Somebody knows why or have any solution ?

It shows the "Double pointers" even if you are connected by GPRS ,they show that there is a transfer of data using the modem, not what method you are connected by.

As soon as anyone has a lead on a Win98SE driver Please post up the details

I'm not living in the dark ages or anything - I've got four PC's, one of which is an XP rig and a kick ass Mac for video work - but i was just given a simple little IBM thinkpad (Pentium 120!!!!). Underpowered? Why yes! Free, perfect for on the train writing and simple bordem relief? Why yes indeed!

Mypoint is... it would rock with the addition of a dual USB PCMCIA card and my SPV hooked up for on the move web browsing.

Problem?- Well, I can never install XP on it. PCMCIA USB 2.0 is what I'm going for and knowing peripherals it could prove tricky.

Question: Any of your guys any closer to finding that 98SE driver? And will a PCMCIA USB 2.0 card throw me any curve balls?

Kind Regards

More detal about the above post... as I said, I've got an old old laptop - IBM Thinkpad 560 with a P120 no less (I know, it sucks - but give me a break!) It's got no USB and only Win98SE and I want to surf the web on it through my SPV. Which of the following solutions should I go for:

1.PCMCIA - USB 2.0 card (Problem is, as I understand it, the SPV USB modem solution won't work under Win 98SE?

2. IR - but I understand this will restrict my GPRS bandwidth to 9.6 due to the characteristics of infra red (or is that just a myth?) Besides which, I'll need a serial or PCMCIA infra-red add on!!

3. XDA Serial - the cheapest solution - but will the SPV's Activesync Modem work with this solution under Win 98SE?

Option 3. is my preferred route - anyone any ideas?

Thanx
