Ok, here's a gift for all you Excel users out there - a new version of contacts.js which -

a) Can cope with csv files whether they have quotes in or not (ie Excel or Outlook format)

;) Doesn't care if the mobile number has a + as the first character or not

Enjoy :)

In case you haven't got the scripts yet I've attatched the latest zip file with everything in it as well.

Hi,

I bet a lot of you are wondering whats going on with RetroFone, RetroSPV, etc..

The real reason is becuase our New provider, Clickatell, has decided to stop accepting PayPal payment, due to the fact that PayPal recently changed their t and c. However, we are looking out for a new provider as we speak. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know asap.

The gateway will be back up, and we do not wish to have a signup/login system, but unless people take the service seriously we will have to. I will be creating a poll in the off-topic polls later on today, to see what the general response to this is.

I have also updated the retrohost thread, at the top of all the forums.

Best Regards,

Asif

RetroFone, a couple of questions if I may:

1. What do you mean about take the service seriously?

2. If you do have a login system, can you set it up so you can send your username and password with the message, that way I can update the RetroSPV program so it will still work with your service.

Hi,

1. Well, oen user sent 150 messages, which were exactly the same to the same number, message after message. Luckily they were sent into the delay queue.

2. I will inform you, first, in order for the script to be changed if we implement this service.

Asif

Retrofone, how about you and I collaborate on an ASP based solution built on your existing script (which I have seen already) that prevents abuse, but allows the great scripts above to continue to work?

I'd be happy to help...

Thanks for that Asif!

Unfortunately there are always some people who will abuse a service, to the detriment of others. If you decide to implement a login system I will understand; it's very good of you to provide this service free anyway! If you do update anything, PM me the changes so I can update the javascript our program uses.

Oops, I just read the start of this thread, installed the app, sent an sms, decided that's great, fantastic, I can cancel my text 30 and just use this. So I did that, and now I realise it's not working and I was a bit premature in cancelling it... Hope it's back up soon!

Well done looks like a nice bit of kit, not been able to try it yet as the site is down! not your fault I know Grrr.....

Given this.......

Would it be possible for the program to check if the portal is available when it starts, and keep the connection so it sends fast if available?

Also, is it possible to get sent messages to appear in the sent folder as a normal text message would?

Also....the Java script works a treat to get my contacts...so I guess you can't access the ones on the phone?

Keep the good work up!

I've just installed this great little app, obviously I can't fully test it yet as the gateway is down atm, but I have a question,

All my contacts are in the +44768****** format, I had no problems following the readme about adding contacts, but I notice when I try to send one the 'TO' filed displays numbers like this ' 44+768******'. In other words the plus is in the wrong place. Is this normal or have I screwed up somehow?

cheers

i've started getting a junk txt message everyday now starting from the weekend.

it could have been another sms site that that i've used but has anybody else got the problem?

Guest ajb3000

No problem with junk sms here, we have it on good authority that the RetroFone gateway does not store the numbers, and as it's been down for over a week now and your junk sms started at the weekend I think we can safely say it's another site.

Kevlar, did you use v1.1 of the software? Try using v1.0 (the original), the only difference is the way it adds your contacts, and v1.0 should leave out the + all together.

Does anyone know If/When this gateway will be up and running again?

Cheers

Hi,

I would like to confirm that we have not given your numbers to anyone, nor do we keep a record of numbers used while sending using the SPV gateway (numbers that used the main gateway were logged, however, they were not spammed either).

I am still trying to sort this, however our group has a lot of exependiture at the moment, so it is rather hard for us to splash out - but the gateway will return.

RetroGroupInternational:: Press Release (Tuesday, 11th March, 2003)

RetroGroupInternational today announced the appointment of Adam Brown, the new director of SMS Services. Adam will be taking control of RetroSPV & RetroFone and any future SMS ventures that are created under the RetroGroupInternational umbrella of companies.

The first task that Adam has been presented with is to redesign & revamp the current “RetroSPV” website, working closely with the groups’ programming services to provide a redundant and secure messaging platform.

A large investment plan has been put into place, and is set to be put into action over the coming month. RetroGroupInternational is currently in talks with a number of SMS providers, in order to provide failsafe messaging.

The new website & set of services will be launched at the upcoming MoDaCo event, to be held in London, UK. RetroGroupInternational has liaised with MoDaCo on a number of occasions, and this is just another demonstrations of the two organisations friendly relationship.
