Is the de-cert really worth it?

And again with feeling :)

If you cock up the de-cert a normal hard reset will put your phone back to normal. If a normal hard reset couses your phone to die, it is because something is fundamentaly wrong with your phone (like more wrong than anything you could wreck) and you should take it back to orange.

You will, by de-certing or hard reseting, lose any of your installed apps or customisations (like ringtones and home screens). You will need to re-install these afterwards.

The talk of do a backup first etc, is basically a disclaimer. It's saying, that inspite of the success people have had etc, that you have no come back to anyone on this board if something does go awry.

If somehow your phone gets cocked up, call Orange and say "I was doing the UK update like you recommended and now my phone is , can I have a new one?" And they will more than likely swap it for a new handset.

No one here can give you a 100% guarantee that this will go smoothly and easily without problems because it is your responsability not ours, but I personally believe that there is very little risk.

cool thanks spacemonkey. I understand where you are coming from. Just one other quicky? Would i need to contact orange for them to send me out a GPRS jobby, or could I enter the settings manually? Just want to make sure I am in business as soon as.

From my experience, if you have gprs working now, it should be working after a hard reset without needing to change any settings

If you do need to change settings they are posted on various places on this board and you can just do it by hand.

For what it's worth my de-cert too about 15 mins and worked 2nd time.

Is it worth it? You bet.

Orange, please wake up and smell the coffee. All we want are a few good apps for this phone. We are not interested in bringing down the Orange empire with our super-modded SPV's!!
