Guest EMGenius Posted April 20, 2003 Report Posted April 20, 2003 must be orange being dumb then, dont know why peeps ahve had problems with is taking an hour: must be out of the UK...very confusing!
Guest ubergeek Posted April 20, 2003 Report Posted April 20, 2003 Delayed messages aren't due to us, but your network. We'll check the server time is correct (may be a few minutes out, although that's unlikely).
Guest EMGenius Posted April 20, 2003 Report Posted April 20, 2003 ubergeek, my phone might be a couple of mins out, could be your server, the couple of mins i was not worried about, it was the 1/2 hour!!! ;) any update o if my previous diagnosins of 'teaching planus to connect' was right or utter tosh?
Guest ajb3000 Posted April 20, 2003 Report Posted April 20, 2003 EMGenius, I think you'll find you sent that text at 12:52, and as it's sent from GMT+1, it displays 13:52 as the sent time. As for how long they take to be recieved, the gateway tries to send them to the recipients network straight away, if it can't get through (due to a network problem, or congestion or what not) it will store the message and try sending it again later, which is the cause for any delays.
Guest EMGenius Posted April 20, 2003 Report Posted April 20, 2003 cheers ajb, that will prob be it why the time was wrong! *doh*...;) as i said, delay i wasn't woriied about, the time just confused me! ta
Guest adam Posted April 20, 2003 Report Posted April 20, 2003 Opening the contacts before tha app worked, thanks. Next it was running at a speed of typing one letter per minute, so i rebooted and thats sorted itself. Next the phone tries to send the message to a contact 3 places above in the list, so when I clicked on D it went to A, or clicked on P and it went to M. Used the t9 filtering to narrow down to one contact, tried to select and now my contact has allegedly got no mobile phone. Can anyone offer any suggestions?
Guest ajb3000 Posted April 20, 2003 Report Posted April 20, 2003 you can't use any kind of filtering. this is a problem due to microsoft not implementing the necessary command to take a number from the phonebook.
Guest fozzie Posted April 20, 2003 Report Posted April 20, 2003 It seems that after installing the app, you have to connect to the net in IE before planus can connect to send a message. Yeah, I had to send a text from the web before I could use the app. It may have been because I had not sent one through Planus before ?!
Guest fozzie Posted April 20, 2003 Report Posted April 20, 2003 you can't use any kind of filtering. You can and I do, as I mentioned in my earlier post ;) I'm sure other people are able to do this?
Guest ajb3000 Posted April 20, 2003 Report Posted April 20, 2003 ok, what I mean is, the list has to be complete when you select a contact, if the list does not contain all your contacts it will not insert the correct contact.
Guest fozzie Posted April 20, 2003 Report Posted April 20, 2003 hmmm, I must be on a different track. If I want to send a message to John Smith then I hit the action key in the To: field in the Planus app. Then I type 'smi' and my list of contacts is narrowed down. Then I scroll to the exact contact, hit the action' key followed by the 'backup' key and then 'menu', 'PlanusSMS' and the contact is added correctly. I don't think I understand what you mean then about filtering and the list containing all your contacts? I thought I was filtering the list down using the above method? Cheers.
Guest fozzie Posted April 20, 2003 Report Posted April 20, 2003 nevermind, that method will work Which is usually better than a method that doesn't ;)
Guest spiderboy Posted April 20, 2003 Report Posted April 20, 2003 Guys just a question about the app wich is great by the way, and sorry if this has been covered in this thread already. (Cant be bothered to read through 18 pages on a sunday) When sending SMS's and manually typing in the number then it works fine and sends the SMS, but when I try the lookup contact and select that contacts number then it starts dailing the contact instead of adding it for the SMS header. Any idiea's why?
Guest EMGenius Posted April 20, 2003 Report Posted April 20, 2003 tut tut. read last 3 pages (its better than rwading 18!!!)
Guest fraser Posted April 20, 2003 Report Posted April 20, 2003 I just sent a message to myself, got it straight away, quite impressed. But now, I'm getting "Network error prevents sending - codeERR: 105". Any ideas?
Guest ubergeek Posted April 20, 2003 Report Posted April 20, 2003 That's the error code for an invalid destination address - what number are you attempting to send it to? Remember, leave off the + and zero's will be automatically turned into 44.
Guest TSCRYPTO Posted April 20, 2003 Report Posted April 20, 2003 Ben...are Planus planning to re-launch the app sometime soon, with the identified problems sorted out?
Guest ubergeek Posted April 20, 2003 Report Posted April 20, 2003 Yes, we're going to add delayed sending and flashing messages, plus iron out any bugs people discover. Any features you want included? Speak now or forever hold your peace!
Guest fozzie Posted April 20, 2003 Report Posted April 20, 2003 I'm able to use filtering. Â After pressing the first few letters of my contact to narrow down the list, I press the action key on the required person. Â Then I press the 'backup' key to get back to the list of contacts then 'menu' & finally 'PlanusSMS'. Â This works most of the time ;) The only inconsistency seems to be after pressing the 'backup' key. Â Sometimes it takes you back to the full list of contacts and not the filtered list. Â It seems to bear some relation to how many keys you have pressed to narrow down the list of contacts, but it is not always the same amount of key presses?! I've now had time to suss out the inconsistency above. It was not as I first thought, down to the number of keypresses. It is down to which contact is left highlighted once you have finished filtering the contact list. If the highlight is on the contact you want and you press the 'action key', pressing 'backup' after this takes you back to the first contact in a complete or unfiltered list. If however, you use the up/down arrow keys to move the highlight before pressing the 'action' key, pressing 'backup' takes you back to the filtered contact list with the highlight still on the selected contact. You can then select 'menu' & 'Planus SMS' and the contact's number is correctly entered into the Planus app :) Hope this makes some sort of sense! :D
Guest MBoden Posted April 20, 2003 Report Posted April 20, 2003 We stille need to figure out the "couldn't connect to GPRS" has anyone figured that one out ? I suspect it has to do with having changed the "internet connection"under settings and/or problems with the GPRS service , can anyone verify this ? MBoden
Guest TSCRYPTO Posted April 20, 2003 Report Posted April 20, 2003 I think at the mo, if the app does everything its supposed to do and send SMS in real time, then I'll be happy. I saw the app on Adams phone and was pretty impressed, but I think its fair to say that it wasnt ready for release. I hope alls sorted soon. ;)
Guest TSCRYPTO Posted April 20, 2003 Report Posted April 20, 2003 Perhaps, MBoden. All I know is that when using the app, my GPRS went tits up and only returned after the app was deleted and the phone, soft-resetted.
Guest EMGenius Posted April 20, 2003 Report Posted April 20, 2003 Ubergeek, re feature request, I have one! when you first open the prog the two 'soft keys' say 'send' and 'menu', would it be possible to default one of them to 'add to:' untill a 'to' number is added, the this could change back to whatever it was before. let me clarify what i am taliking about with an example; when you log it the send key would say 'add to' instead of send (you cant send untill you add someone anyway!!). Once something is entered into the 'to:' field the send key would change back to send. Another possible alternative would for one of the keys to say 'add to' for a couple of seconds or so then change back to 'send' (one of the first things you would do it add a contact? - i do). I dont know if this is possible? some sort of dynamic programming that could recognise when something had been entered in the 'to' field, or a time delay after which the key changes function?? probabley just dreaming here, but it would be a nice function, rather than going to menu and then 'add to', would make the prog that little bit easier to use; after all usability is extreemly an important part of any program! Oh and something else i have just though of while typing... when adding a contact, you have to click menu, then select 'planus SMS' which is at the botton of the list (which means pressing up once or down several times). if the 'planus SMS' was made the deault option this would cut out some key presses hence making the process shorter. lets face it, if you have got to the contact adding stage, it is pretty obvious that you want to add a contact, so why not make oit the default... Oh and request no. 3. WHen you go into planus and select menu>'to' the indicator selects the 'to' field, is there any chance that this could jump straight into the contacts list? You may have notices that all of these are about usability: i am a bit of a usability freak, sorry!!! no ideas if these are possible... that'll teach you to ask for suggestions anyway...!!! ;) CHeers EMG
