Guest ajb3000 Posted April 20, 2003 Report Posted April 20, 2003 TSCRYPTO, if you quit the app then it won't be having any effect on your phone whatsoever. Also for those of you having problems, have you tried connecting with CSD? I just tried sending an SMS via my ISP internet connection and it worked fine, however I hardly ever have a problem sending through Orange GPRS either. Let us know if you try it.
Guest TSCRYPTO Posted April 20, 2003 Report Posted April 20, 2003 I suppose I wont really know what I want in the way of extra features until I have had a chance to use the applicaiton properly. ;)
Guest EMGenius Posted April 20, 2003 Report Posted April 20, 2003 re my prevous post: i really think that once installing the app. you have to conect to the internet using explorer (on the phone of course!!), any site will do. then go into planus and it will connect. i uninstalled it again just to check this out and it happened both times. can you confirm this Planus team, can this be fixed in the next release (together with my other 'wishes'!!!)? cheers EMG {edit} prev post: I have just re-installed though and i couldn't send a message, no matter how many times i tried: just said cant connect. So i thought that i would check that i could connect to the net: i could. I went back into planus and tried sending the message again and it worked first try!!! (sent anyway - not recieved it yet - i will keep you posted!) It seems that after installing the app, you have to connect to the net in IE before planus can connect to send a message. Seems like you need to 'show planus how to connect'. Am i stating the obvious here? has anyone else noticed this? Could be a little bug - not that important, but worth noting by planus if this is the case.
Guest ajb3000 Posted April 20, 2003 Report Posted April 20, 2003 requests 1 and 2 MBoden will have to comment on. As for number 3, this is unlikely as what if someone wants to text a number not in your phones memory?
Guest TSCRYPTO Posted April 20, 2003 Report Posted April 20, 2003 TSCRYPTO, if you quit the app then it won't be having any effect on your phone whatsoever. This is the problem Adam - I did kill the app via task mgr, but gprs was still up the swanny...
Guest ajb3000 Posted April 20, 2003 Report Posted April 20, 2003 did you try quitting it using the Menu, Quit command in the program? anyway I doubt it was the program affecting your GPRS, but who knows!?! EMGenius - I can't confirm that cus mine works fine without connecting to the internet first.
Guest EMGenius Posted April 20, 2003 Report Posted April 20, 2003 even after a fresh re-install, wierd...
Guest TSCRYPTO Posted April 20, 2003 Report Posted April 20, 2003 Yep, tried that too - it sure was odd, but as you know I was not the only one to experience probs with gprs after installing the app. Ben mentioned above that the app would be re-released soon - how far away is this? A few days?
Guest EMGenius Posted April 20, 2003 Report Posted April 20, 2003 ajb3000:requests 1 and 2 MBoden will have to comment on. As for number 3, this is unlikely as what if someone wants to text a number not in your phones memory? could this be made a secondary fucntion? possibly by cancelling out of the contacts list? more often that not you will want to text someone in your phone book?
Guest ajb3000 Posted April 20, 2003 Report Posted April 20, 2003 If you look at another thread on this board a lot of people have been experiancing GPRS problems similar to those described earlier over the post few days, a coincidence? maybe! we can't re-release the app until we verify if there is actually a problem or not, or whether its just GPRS playing up, and if there is a problem we need to find out what it is and fix it. EDIT: Because of the way it access the contacts list, you can't cancel out of it back into the Planus App. When you view the contacts list you are no longer in the Planus app, which is why if you press the back button you go back to the programs list. You only go back into the Planus app when you press 'Planus SMS' in the menu after selecting a contact.
Guest EMGenius Posted April 20, 2003 Report Posted April 20, 2003 i think that there have been general probs for gprs, having a look round the board and i can confirm tht it has been a bit foooked up here in manc too, its all this sunny wheather, were not used to it in the UK, sends us all a bit mad!
Guest EMGenius Posted April 20, 2003 Report Posted April 20, 2003 oh, ok then, never mind! i wish down, 2 to go!!!!
Guest Will Posted April 20, 2003 Report Posted April 20, 2003 it seems if the app gives an error when sending a message. wrong username/password server problems gprs problems. The process 'planusSMS' seems to halt the functionality of PIE. The only way i can solve this is to remove the app, kill the process and reboot. Hope this helps. Will
Guest ajb3000 Posted April 20, 2003 Report Posted April 20, 2003 If people who are having problems with GPRS and this app can try CSD, we can confirm whether the problem is limited to GPRS, if it is then chances are its just GPRS playing up (for which you should blame orange)
Guest Will Posted April 20, 2003 Report Posted April 20, 2003 More than happy to test other options, Do we get charged for CSD? on the unlimited GPRS bundle? just seems strange that on the 2 spvs here, one can work perfectly browsing and dialling gprs, while the other cannot. the only difference between them is the keyboard update, and planusSMS. (and i have tried planus on both.) Will
Guest ajb3000 Posted April 20, 2003 Report Posted April 20, 2003 CSD you are charged for at whatever the rate is for calling the number you dial, so it may be included in your free minutes. I have tested this with and without the keyboard update and it seems to make no difference, so there must be something else affecting it!
Guest MBoden Posted April 20, 2003 Report Posted April 20, 2003 Regarding TSCRYPTO's 3 requests : 1) I agree that send should be disabled until a recipient has been entered, this is the way outlook does it , and so should Planus 2) Yes , i guess that the PlanusSMS menu item could be placed on top, but bear in mind that this is a change to the way contacts work, if you start the planus app , press home, go into contacts (planus app still running) you have the PlanusSMS item in the contacts menu. Hooks into other programs menus should be placed last IMHO 3) if the "To" menu item took you to contacts, how would you enter a number not in your contact list ? some would prefer going directly to contacts , some to manual entry, i you ever participated in a SMS voting or such , you don't want to put them in you contacts to send ? MBoden
Guest ajb3000 Posted April 21, 2003 Report Posted April 21, 2003 I presume a lot of people have the app working flawlessly? The number of SMS sent per day shot up after we released it yesterday!
Guest crafty Posted April 21, 2003 Report Posted April 21, 2003 Hey guys, nice app - working no probs [connecting etc] or so i thought... I've sent a few messages but people are only recieving part of them. The messages were about 70-80 chars but only the first 40 or so were recieved. Has this happened to anyone else [didn't hear it mentioned elsewhere in this thread]? This took a few texts to establish that people weren't getting the whole message so i sent one to my old mobile. Any suggestions why this is happening? A suggestion for future release would be the ability to send messages to multiple recipients. p.s. any chance of getting some credits reinstated as the messages i sent didn't get through properly [pretty please]???
Guest crafty Posted April 21, 2003 Report Posted April 21, 2003 Just done another test and found that it sends all text up until an "&" sign, and then nothing after! Any ideas??
Guest ajb3000 Posted April 21, 2003 Report Posted April 21, 2003 write 'and' instead of &? I think its anothing 'bug' in the server back-end, as different variables (such as username, password, text box etc.) are seperated by an & symbol. I'll let Ben know about it.
Guest FrankyG Posted April 21, 2003 Report Posted April 21, 2003 Mostly works fine for me. None of the GPRS problems others are having, txt's arriving sometimes within seconds of being sent. Only down side is trying to send my SenderID as +44797xxxxxxx the server strips of the + AND the last two digits of my number. Bit of a problem sending to my Aussie mates :? When selecting a contact, I'm just in the habit of scrolling to it, clicking action and then backing out and into Planus app, this seems to avoid the problem of picking the wrong name. FrankyG
Guest ajb3000 Posted April 21, 2003 Report Posted April 21, 2003 Franky, just set the sender ID as 44797xxxxx without the +. Your aussie mates will still be able to reply to your UK number in that format.
Guest midnight Posted April 21, 2003 Report Posted April 21, 2003 if yer using php, then use html entities so & becomes &_amp; (ignore the underscore, daft phpbb, wont allow anything else hehe) that may solve the problem
Guest EMGenius Posted April 21, 2003 Report Posted April 21, 2003 Regarding TSCRYPTO's 3 requests : ... grrrrr, i think that they were mine..all that hard work and my wonderfull ideas got credited to someone else!!! ;) (unless TSCRYPTO made the same requests as me?..) Would it be possible to set up another post, just for erequests for the app, and then maybe you could do some sort of voting, or people could just use that post to comment on the requests; that way you get a good idea of what pople want without it being clouded with problems and bugs with the app. This post is getting long thats all, a post devoted to feature requests rather than bugs might be more effective for findiong what people want? This one could be kept for bugs and probs then, its turning into quite a good knowledge base!! just an idea..
