Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted May 25, 2003 Report Posted May 25, 2003 Congratualtions on your baby :) On the latest Compal firmware the "Radio off/on" option on the quickmenu is replaced by "airplane mode on/off" :(
Guest swanseastu Posted May 25, 2003 Report Posted May 25, 2003 Could this be the latest midnight tweak? To make our SPv's quickmenu airplane friendly :?:
Guest deiwise Posted May 26, 2003 Report Posted May 26, 2003 Don't tell them it's a phone! Seriously I was interrogated in a hospital yesterday when playing on my 'phone, she wasn't convinced until I showed the 'radio off' bit and explained. My wife surreptitiously pulled her http://www.apah56.dsl.pipex.com/brick.jpg>Nokia phone out of her pocket and turned it of after that! It's a myth I'm afraid. I work for the NHS, and the sole reason for mobiles not being allowed is the potential distraction it might cause consultants & surgeons. I do enjoy scaring the patients though, telling them they're liable to a £3,000 fine. We even have "fake" mobile phone detectors in the corridor - every half hour a robotic, American voice blurts out "a mobile phone cellular device has been detected. Please switch it to the off position." Will
Guest deiwise Posted May 26, 2003 Report Posted May 26, 2003 Noise, I suppose. Although I'm not convinced the signals produced by phones couldn't affect scanners & theatre equipment. It's all shrouded in mystery where we work, "distraction to doctors" being the main excuse for the ban. Will
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted May 26, 2003 Report Posted May 26, 2003 Seems a bit weak imho. Interference is a little more plausible...you're the employee though...:)
Guest Rob.P Posted May 27, 2003 Report Posted May 27, 2003 I was able to use mine on Thai Airways, which is just as well cause I was almost freakin on the 12hr trip back, the whole plane was asleep so I got out my phone and watched a movie which killed a couple of hours. I asked the stewardess' first then it got to them taking me to the pilot and asking him, they seemed quite interested in the phone, wouldn't be surprised if they haven't bought one already.
Guest deiwise Posted May 27, 2003 Report Posted May 27, 2003 My friend's flatmate's Dad (apparently) was on a Virgin flight, where everyone was allowed to use their mobile (as part of a promo with Virgin mobile)....
