Guest Flash Posted March 18, 2003 Report Posted March 18, 2003 I saw this link on the coolsmartphone site tonight regarding the new keyboard. It's selling for almost £50 plus p+p. http://www.ora.co.uk/?page=shop/product_di...⊂=86&pid=939 As a matter of interest, has anyone got one of these keyboards yet? If so, what's it like? Is it worth getting?
Guest muude Posted March 18, 2003 Report Posted March 18, 2003 Look at the date it's available from!! It's an April Fool's joke from M$ and O!! They've been playing us all along and probably made the pics in photoshop or somethin'!! :) ;) :D I'm considering to buy one, but money isn't something I've got a lot of...
Guest Flash Posted March 18, 2003 Report Posted March 18, 2003 I didn't even notice the date  I'm considering to buy one, but money isn't something I've got a lot of... It's a lot of money to spend just to write emails or text messages! I wonder if you're able to explore the phone with keyboard control?
Guest muude Posted March 19, 2003 Report Posted March 19, 2003 Well, if you look at the pic again, you can see that they have made navigational buttons and even something that looks like internet shortcuts. So my guess is that we can easily navigate the phone with the keybord. It would be rather impossible to have it plugged in and using the buttons on the phone at the same time. That wouldn't be very practical. But then again... We all know M$ and O :)spv_keyboard.jpg
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted March 19, 2003 Report Posted March 19, 2003 I'll be getting one at the end of the month for the novelty value alone :)
Guest muude Posted March 19, 2003 Report Posted March 19, 2003 Dunno how easy it will be playing Motocross Stunt Racer on a piece of cloth... But still, it can't be any worse than the controls on the spv...
Guest benjymous Posted March 19, 2003 Report Posted March 19, 2003 I'll be getting one at the end of the month for the novelty value alone :) For one thing, it'll make irc much easier Though it dawns on me that you'll need a solid surface to use it on, so it won't be much use out and about (unless you carry a laptop sized chunk of wood with you)
Guest madu Posted March 19, 2003 Report Posted March 19, 2003 I cannot see why I would need one of those. The only use would be if it was my ONLY communicaiton/entertainment device. There is nothing THAT urgent to type up that would require one of those. On the plane? Ok. On the train - doubt you can do that on your lap (benjymouse, a wooden board is a great shout!!) and don't think it would impress the crowd on the Tube if you needed an extra double seat to rest it on :) Anything urgent that needs to be sorted can be done by phone or when I get to my PC. I can see that if I did NOT have a PC at home - that would come handy while surfing the web and typing up emails. Well, that's my 2p anyway, but it does look awkward when unfolded and is too big for my liking! PS: ERICSSON CHATBOARD - bring one of them to SPV!! Seems like the best solution to me
Guest benjymous Posted March 19, 2003 Report Posted March 19, 2003 Yeah, it will mostly be novelty value for me. I like telling people on MSN that I'm sat in a pub, which always gets an amusing response. I spend far too much time on irc as it is, so at least having a mobile device with a non rsi-causing keyboard will mean I'll be able sit out in the sunshine (add an extra bit of wood to make a sun screen so I can see the screen to my list) Orange SPV - £150 Keyboard addon - £50 Two large chunks of wood - £10 GPRS phonebill - lots ability to sit on a park bench out in the sunshine and chat on irc/msn - priceless
Guest madu Posted March 19, 2003 Report Posted March 19, 2003 Sitting in a pub with chunks of wood and bus-stop-roof-sized fabric keyboard A beer plus all that to make company = sad geek = priceless!!! :) I want one now too!!! [sarcastic]
Guest benjymous Posted March 19, 2003 Report Posted March 19, 2003 My housemate is a fruit machine addict, so I find myself frequently sat alone in a pub while he throws away all his small change :? I usually just take a book ..anyway you don't need chunks of wood in a pub, unless it's some kind of bizare trendy pub without tables..
Guest vijay555 Posted March 19, 2003 Report Posted March 19, 2003 somebody ought to make a video out for spv. and maybe a full port replicator. then we could lug around 17 inch monitors and a linotype printer and we'd all be laughing. much like this guy's blootoof:handsfree.jpg
Guest vijay555 Posted March 26, 2003 Report Posted March 26, 2003 re XDA/SPV pinout http://www.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=4409
