Guest casper508 Posted March 12, 2003 Report Posted March 12, 2003 Did someone mention Boulder dash. That'll be great on the phone! Raise you hands to be counted ppl. :) Cas
Guest Deemon Posted March 12, 2003 Report Posted March 12, 2003 PACMAN...! WOOHOOOO Ill start graphics right away for it !!! 8x8 & 16x16 & 32x32 pixel sprites ok ? never developed for smartphone b4 !
Guest Croccy22 Posted March 12, 2003 Report Posted March 12, 2003 Whooooaaaa. Slow down guyz  Need a couple of weeks on smartanoid first to finish it off. Saying that I have started to work some things out for a possible pacman game. Just trying to figure out how to get the enemies to chase you around and sending my head into a flat spin. So many possibilities start popping up when you think about them. Only time will tell! Does anyone know if create a game called pacman and using the same levels, sounds and graphics would come across any copyright issues?? Would it be better to go for an original smartphone version? Let the votes begin! Matt
Guest Charlie Mouse Posted March 12, 2003 Report Posted March 12, 2003 The enemies AI in Pacman is actually pretty strange. When the ghosts first come out of thier room thing they always follow the same pattern of moves and ignore where pacman is. After a while they start following Pacman if they are close enough and sometimes they just go in completely random directions! I'm a web designer (not a programmer) so dont really know too much about this stuff!! Good question about the copyright as well, hadn't thought about that, although there are loads of clones about already. Do copyrights ever run out (or is that just Patents)? Keep up the good work on Smartanoid, cant wait to see it.
Guest midnight Posted March 12, 2003 Report Posted March 12, 2003 copyright would only become a problem if you tried to sell the game, of course, change the name, the graphics and the sound and it aint a problem even if you do wanna sell it, even if the game is essentially the same. of course, been thinking about this again, and an enhanced version would be the way to go anyway, cos we have pacman on gb and nes emulators, so thats the originl version pretty much covered. i think now its time for someone to make a new pacman with stunning gfx, music and new powerups etc
Guest midnight Posted March 12, 2003 Report Posted March 12, 2003 but anyway, one thing at a time, smartanoid first :)
Guest Deemon Posted March 12, 2003 Report Posted March 12, 2003 how are you going for graphics on that ? im happy to help out !
Guest Croccy22 Posted March 14, 2003 Report Posted March 14, 2003 midnight has been helping out with the graphics so I am ok with that for now. Just experimenting with sound and music in the game and then got a few more things to tidy up like high score table etc. I also think I am going to rewrite the collision detection routine again. Still has some irritating bugs (well they are irritating me anyway). Does anyone know of any easy to read source code for a arkanoid style game so I can see how they have worked it out? Matt
Guest muff Posted March 14, 2003 Report Posted March 14, 2003 I also think I am going to rewrite the collision detection routine again. Still has some irritating bugs (well they are irritating me anyway) what's the problem m8 maybe we can help
Guest alanrenouf Posted March 14, 2003 Report Posted March 14, 2003 nah, bubble symphony was a remake taito did of the original bubble bobble to bring it up to date something which could easily be done on the smartphone os, ooh, that lovely 65k colour palette heheh  This would be amazing ! :) Anybody going to commit to working on it ???
Guest Croccy22 Posted March 14, 2003 Report Posted March 14, 2003 Think I may have got the collision detection sorted. Well good enough anyway. Was due to collision detection being to accurate! I am so used to working with 8x8 blocks and not rounded sprites! Oh well just lots of tidying up to do now. Also some sound effects to go with the music. I take you guys would also like the option to turn the volume down and turn it off also for when your playing it at work! (Which of course you shouldn't be!) Matt
Guest midnight Posted March 14, 2003 Report Posted March 14, 2003 croccy, if you can, detect if the phone is in 'silent' mode, if so then dont play any music or sound effects  as mentioned before, all games should be like this what would be cool is the original arkanoid sound effects, dont think i've played a breakout clone with sound as nice as that
Guest yatpeak Posted March 14, 2003 Report Posted March 14, 2003 Good luck, I like the idea of it as IMHO bust'em isn't a particularly good game. Wyatt
Guest Croccy22 Posted March 17, 2003 Report Posted March 17, 2003 Just to keep you all up to date. Programming of this game is still going fine. Just working on tidying up the main menu and stuff. Development was a bit slow over the weekend due to hot weather, Hot babes and me stuffing my car into the back of my mates! (Good excuse to buy quad headlights if ever there was one!) Anyway hopefully should have something for you lot to play on soon. It may not be perfect and will probably be lacking power-ups for the first version. But if people like it then I will finish it off. Only really started it to get used to programming for the spv. Keep watching the skyz. Matt
Guest goldorak Posted March 17, 2003 Report Posted March 17, 2003 where is the link to download smartanoid ??? thank's
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted March 18, 2003 Report Posted March 18, 2003 Like the post says still in development, be patient and hopefully it will be soon :)
Guest Croccy22 Posted March 18, 2003 Report Posted March 18, 2003 As awarner said. Thee currently is no download for this yet. Wanted to get it looking alright before I put anything up. Hopefully once I have finsished repairing my car tonight then I will get back to finsishing it off and there MAY be a firest release available at the end of the weekend. But I ain't promising anything, life is too unpredictable!! OK'ish things come to those who wait! Matt
