Guest The unexpected guest ! Posted April 17, 2003 Report Posted April 17, 2003 I know a guy who where at Mobius 2003 and works for Orange France.
Guest Firaas Posted April 17, 2003 Report Posted April 17, 2003 I know a guy who where at Mobius 2003 and works for Orange France. Hmm. I spoke to Orange's Media Centre, who would be the first people to know if the SPVe100 wasn't planned for UK release, and the lady I spoke to was quite simply not aware of any cancellation of release, and assured me that the release was still planned.
Guest The unexpected guest ! Posted April 17, 2003 Report Posted April 17, 2003 Ok, if you don't believe me then ask to Galaga the webmaster of smartphony.org. He was at Mobius 2003 (with Paul) and he knows that THIS new Smartphone will come in September. But the info was classified until today because a journalist wrote something about this new product. I'm not joking... http://www.smartphony.org/stories.php?stor...3/04/17/8737974

If this is not the case, I'll know on Wednesday.
Guest The unexpected guest ! Posted April 17, 2003 Report Posted April 17, 2003 Orange meeting at Mobius 2003 two weeks ago... What do you read? ;) SPVx - Launching this quarter - Switzerland / Danmark first - Games bundles - Accessories same as SPV the rest of pics http://www.smartphony.org/stories.php?stor...3/04/05/9085766
Guest Firaas Posted April 17, 2003 Report Posted April 17, 2003 SPVx - Launching this quarter - Switzerland / Danmark first - Games bundles - Accessories same as SPV Note the word FIRST. It doesn't say only, it says first.
Guest midnight Posted April 17, 2003 Report Posted April 17, 2003 all we are saying is that there was also an orange representative at the meet in london, and he said that the spv e-100 is being released in roughly 6 weeks time. AND, it says Denmark/Switzerland FIRST, not ONLY take it however you want, but i'd like to think that orange representatives would not lie about the launch in the uk
Guest wirefree90 Posted April 17, 2003 Report Posted April 17, 2003 I seem to remember the Orange guy saying that the SPVx will be launched on 'a' Orange network within 6 weeks, I don't remember him saying in which country. Their are lots of Orange networks out their.
Guest vijay555 Posted April 17, 2003 Report Posted April 17, 2003 just to re-iterate what midnight and firaas said, i got the Orange guy at the meet up against a wall and threatened him with a slice of pizza, and he definitely said "SPVx will be released in 4-6 weeks across Europe". Now, since i was asking him specifically about the UK (since we were in London), i presume he would have said "4-6 weeks across Europe excluding UK" if that's what he meant. And if it's not released in UK in 4-6 weeks: Orange Dude - I KNOW WHERE YOU LIVE! 6 months is a long time in tech market. although, since people are up in arms about a second spv in less that a year, then 3 in 1.5 years is a bit silly. At this rate we'll be upgrading every few weeks! But, if HTC didn't release an upgraded (as opposed to cosmetically enhanced) phone soon, then they'd risk losing there position as premiere MS smartphone manufacturer. But after the rumours about HP and others approaching them to produce their own MS Smartphone, i guess HTC should have access to some kick ass Hardware... BTW: i need help: Cheapside in London, 1330, April 17th, ridiculously sexy girl standing on a street corner demonstrating the 3G phones. Guess which i check out, girl or phone? Sigh V
Guest wirefree90 Posted April 17, 2003 Report Posted April 17, 2003 The Orange guy never mentioned any specific country... and I suspect that any conclusions your drawing from his comments are entirely your own.
Guest vijay555 Posted April 17, 2003 Report Posted April 17, 2003 that's true, but when i specifically say : "Excuse me orange chap, but do you have any idea when the SPVx is being released in the UK?" and he responds "The SPVx is being released across Europe in 4-6 weeks, and i won't be more specific [about the date] than that", than i would say that it's just unnecassarily obtuse to say that i'm making it up. It's true that he didn't say in the UK, but at the same time i asked specifically _in the UK_ if it wasn't being released in the uk, i presume he would have indicated something to that effect, otherwise it's just purposefully misleading, and we all know that orange doesn't do that.... in any event, i think this is all conjecture. i guess we might as well just wait and see. V

Their are lots of Orange networks out their. I seem to remember hearing that too! *Marc sits at home on laptop dreaming of september when he will have spv spvx and spv2 infront of him ;) *
Guest Simon Desser Posted April 17, 2003 Report Posted April 17, 2003 No disrespect to the "Orange Guy", but my experiences from the MoDaCo event were that he did his best to "keep his head down" and avoid having to answer any questions. Most of the time he seemed to be hiding in the corner of the room, rather than mingling like the Microsoft guys did. I was stood next to Firaas when the Orange guy said 4-6 weeks, and I do wonder whether he felt like he HAD to say something, to stop Firaas hitting him over the head with a Pizza! ;)
Guest ClintEastman Posted April 17, 2003 Report Posted April 17, 2003 Sounds like the "UN will have a KEY roll" statement to me! EG. not answering the question you asked. Why didn’t he say “It’s out in the UK in 5-6 weeks.” Or am I being picky?
Guest vijay555 Posted April 17, 2003 Report Posted April 17, 2003 I asked him independantly, and he said 4-6. he was quite happy to let that out, in fact jumped to offer that snippit. I can't be arsed to get egg on my face, he said European Rollout, and if that means everywhere except UK, so be it, but i obviously and specifically asked him about UK launch, and he said 4-6. And Paul (which rhymes with, "he who knows all") said it's more likely to be 6 for the UK launch, because they roll out smaller countries first. which all makes sense. But, come September, we'll all have watched Matrix 2 and, screw HTC, we'll all be using that lovely Samsung. Yeah, right ;) V Simon, you really 35? Jeez mate, u look good for your years, if a guy can ever say such a thing to another guy... Re the Pizza, as blackadder would say, "it was an especially sharp slice of Pizza" we threatend him with.
Guest ClintEastman Posted April 17, 2003 Report Posted April 17, 2003 Aggghhhhh, Don't remind me of that Samsung!!! I feel ill now. :) As far as the small country roll out goes im sure that's true, just incase it all goes tits up, that's why thay get the updates first. Oh, and as im sure you have all worked out by now i can't wait for Matrix Reloaded to come out!!!!! (or T3) ;)
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted April 17, 2003 Report Posted April 17, 2003 I'll say it again. I wouldn't expect to see huge numbers of new handsets by September, and even if there are why buy for the sake of it? I'd rather wait another 2 months and get a SP2k3 handset imho...
Guest rocknsock2k Posted April 17, 2003 Report Posted April 17, 2003 Matrix 2 and 3 T3 yummy i think were all ;)ing over the prospect
Guest ClintEastman Posted April 17, 2003 Report Posted April 17, 2003 If anyone is unsure what Samsung phone we are talking about have a look at this! http://www.modaco.com/viewtopic...ighlight=matrix The most ugly phone in the world?
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted April 17, 2003 Report Posted April 17, 2003 The most beautiful phone in the world!
Guest rocknsock2k Posted April 17, 2003 Report Posted April 17, 2003 hey theyre just exploiting the matrix franchise n style i think i might get one for noveltyness although it looks difficult to use as a fone better as a fashion n shock n awe statement
Guest Simon Desser Posted April 17, 2003 Report Posted April 17, 2003 Simon, you really 35? Jeez mate, u look good for your years, if a guy can ever say such a thing to another guy... Cheers mate :!:
Guest Firaas Posted April 17, 2003 Report Posted April 17, 2003 No disrespect to the "Orange Guy", but my experiences from the MoDaCo event were that he did his best to "keep his head down" and avoid having to answer any questions. Totally agree mate. I asked him a few specific questions, and he tried very hard to avoid answering them. These included the release date of SPVx and the release date of 3G. He was very firm about there being no special upgrade option for those already owning an SPV.
Guest ajb3000 Posted April 17, 2003 Report Posted April 17, 2003 He was very firm about there being no special upgrade option for those already owning an SPV. Could be a blessing in disguise? Perfect time to move over to T-Mobile. Hopefully they will have a 6 month unlimited GPRS pack at launch aswell!
Guest vijay555 Posted April 17, 2003 Report Posted April 17, 2003 ajb3000 is a man with his head screwed on, and with number porting it shouldn't even hurt! And don't forget, all your Matrix boys and gals, we get both Matrix II and III THIS year. However, I've asked the Wachowskis and they said that they'd start roll out in the small countries first, and assuming it doesn't all go Mammaries Aloft, we should all be Matrix Revolution-ing with SPVx in hand  Carrie-Anne Moss and an SPVx... sigh. Both hands will be busy. Time for hands free. V ;)
