Guest McHale Posted April 25, 2003 Report Posted April 25, 2003 according to this site, AT&T is going 850. I'm so confused. Anyway, the reason I found the site is I was looking for GSM phones with 850 on it. It's actually quite an impressive list... http://canikickit.org/archives/000086.shtml March 10, 2003 GSM850 devices emag*rad from Howard Forums knows an inappropriate amount about GSM and other mobile phone technology. I suspect that he's not only an engineer but probably some sort of engineering muckity-muck with a vendor of hardware like Nokia or something. At any rate, he compiled, and nicely posted, a list of GSM 850 equipment for the curious. This ties in with AT&T moving in the direction of deploying GSM 850 in markets where they can carve up their 800MHz TDMA spectrum for such things. This includes handsets as well as PC-card adapters. Note the inclusion of some quad-band handsets as well as those supporting GAIT? Very nice! Guest aiwapro Posted April 25, 2003 Report Posted April 25, 2003 Yeah there are quit a few of those, wow. There aren't too many quad-band though, for those who would like to roam overseas.
Guest McHale Posted April 26, 2003 Report Posted April 26, 2003 probably by design. I've spoken to all of our vendors and nobody plans on a quad-band other than that v600 as of now. And to be honest, that v600 is a really nice phone. Built-in camera, color screen, other stuff... BUT... I'll take that Mitac Mio8380 over it any day. I want my smartphone!!!!!!!!! -Mc
Guest aiwapro Posted April 26, 2003 Report Posted April 26, 2003 Will you order the smartphone from me?
Guest skimask Posted April 27, 2003 Report Posted April 27, 2003 lmao @ you still trying to get an order out of the man after all that! ten outta ten for persistance mate! i couldn't sleep tonight so decided to read through all this, was very entertained. well done chaps.
Guest aiwapro Posted April 27, 2003 Report Posted April 27, 2003 We argued, but we settled our different perspectives on that stuff.
Guest McHale Posted April 27, 2003 Report Posted April 27, 2003 it didn't hurt that while we were arguing over roaming agreements and frequencies, that every company had a press release that covered it. Bottom line: 850 is mucking up my world. :) And the conclusion was simple and we both agree. 1900 is here to stay. Everybody has it. It's everywhere. 850 is someplaces. A quad-band phone covers every frequency in the US where the 1900 only covers the 1900. Having 850 would be nice, but probably won't get you GSM where there isn't already 1900. Can you get the Mitac? Hell yes I'll order one! If not right now, will you be able to get them when they come out? Rumor has it they should be out within a month or so. You never know when you'll find a sleeping guard you need to take a picture of. ;) -Mc
