Guest superkingdave Posted April 22, 2003 Report Posted April 22, 2003 i know its a bit ot but i have signed up for the video trial thing and consequently get my six quid refunded as i supposedly get gprs free for the duration of the trial. does this mean i have true unlimited gprs or is it similar to the spv fair usage policy
Guest fozzie Posted April 22, 2003 Report Posted April 22, 2003 The USB modem has worked fine since the first UK update. You can dlownload the latest USB driver from my website. Activate "modem link" on your SPV and lpug it into the cradle, then install the USB driver when prompted. You then need the USB modem settings Edit: settings in this thread:http://www.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=2361 ....... and to be fair, the 'right' OS ;) Did anyone ever get it working on anything other than XP or Win2k? It never worked on my ME platform.
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted April 22, 2003 Report Posted April 22, 2003 Yeah that too, hehe. Sorry, the driver (like most things-SPV), only appears to work on 2k or XP boxes...
Guest superkingdave Posted April 22, 2003 Report Posted April 22, 2003 well thats nice... my stupid machine running me will be getting a kick when i see it next- cant even do one simple thing right. how much is a xp upgrade? and will it run ok on a p3 933 with 128mb ram?
Guest fozzie Posted April 22, 2003 Report Posted April 22, 2003 I love these threads: "The SPV modem doesn't work" "Yes it does" "Only with the DK update" "No, the UK update" "But only IR" "No, USB" "How?" "You need the modem driver" "hmm" "With the right modem settings" "hmmmmm" "And the right SPV settings" "hmmmmmmmm" "And the right OS" Flippin' technology, who needs it? ;)
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted April 22, 2003 Report Posted April 22, 2003 Think its about 70 quid for an XP Home upgrade. Should be ok on those specs, might want to look into gettimg a little more memory though...
Guest midnight Posted April 22, 2003 Report Posted April 22, 2003 hehe, just read this and all will become clear (i hope)
Guest fozzie Posted April 22, 2003 Report Posted April 22, 2003 .... will it run ok on a p3 933 with 128mb ram? XP Pro runs ok on my AMD Athalon 600 (yeah I know, some people still have them!) albeit with 256Mb RAM.
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted April 22, 2003 Report Posted April 22, 2003 Yep, memory is the killer when it comes to XP...
Guest fozzie Posted April 22, 2003 Report Posted April 22, 2003 hehe, just read this and all will become clear (i hope) I rest my case!
Guest PhilA Posted April 22, 2003 Report Posted April 22, 2003 For anyone who still doubts it all works (at least in XP) ;), I've attached a screenshot showing a connection I made a few minutes ago. You can see that it says "HTC USB Modem" for the device type, which is what the SPV shows up as when used as a modem. I've blacked out the last part of the IP addresses for security reasonsorangeconnect.jpg
Guest simonastro Posted April 22, 2003 Report Posted April 22, 2003 modem 4 me works fine downstream but can't send any emails from pc any known issues or fixes ?
Guest PhilA Posted April 22, 2003 Report Posted April 22, 2003 modem 4 me works fine downstream but can't send any emails from pc any known issues or fixes ? Only issue I know of is if you don't have your mail relay setup correctly - the SMTP server should be set to smtp.orange.net The only thing that I've found doesn't work over GPRS is VPN connections, and I believe that this is blocked by Orange
Guest simonastro Posted April 23, 2003 Report Posted April 23, 2003 unfortunately the SMTP server is set to smtp.orange.net
Guest PhilA Posted April 23, 2003 Report Posted April 23, 2003 What error do you get when you try and send e-mails out?
