Guest awarner [MVP] Posted April 24, 2003 Report Posted April 24, 2003 Did not see the post by gears but I did read the recent post in the MS smartphone section saying that it (may) continue until December but it will be until June
Guest Simon Desser Posted April 24, 2003 Report Posted April 24, 2003 This is what Gears has said:- "Posted by Gears on 24-04-03 GPRS Promotion Pack may be extended The Orange GPRS "deal" that's due to be ending soon could be extended. Orange have become aware that usage of the GPRS service may drop quite heavily if people are forced onto new capped services which could set customers' phone bills rising through the roof. The GPRS Promotion Pack may now be extended until December, and they're in discussion about an "Open Access Pack" that will cover everything. This will probably be around £9 a month. " The last bit I've made bold is interesting, and later on Gears "implies" that he has "inside sources" - Cool!
Guest Vector Posted April 24, 2003 Report Posted April 24, 2003 Oh yeah and Paul is da man plus
Guest Firaas Posted April 24, 2003 Report Posted April 24, 2003 *The purchase of the SPV phone is subject to connection to the SPV promotional pack providing 10MB web browsing a month costing £6 per month on top of your existing Service Plan. At the end of the promotional period you will automatically be changed onto an equal or lower priced GPRS bundle with a megabyte cap. The T&C's also said that the bundle you would be moved onto would be based upon your usage during the promotion - which I found misleading. However, the T&C page has disappeared from the Orange site, and apparently the Orange internal systems - http://www.orange.co.uk/business/products/...espv/terms.html
Guest alanorange Posted April 24, 2003 Report Posted April 24, 2003 the last update that staff had was that the spv promo pack is ending - customers will be put onto £4 standard gprs bundle for 2MB and then £3 for each mb afterwards. there is something happening also with orange access pack and if i remember correctly its just going to be called the open access. Orange Staff Have Orange Wap Access Free till December - call 150 or better yet call 156 - may get someone who knows what they are on about!. So staff don't pay £4 for the Access Pack at all and get it for nothing. but this is wap useage not for gprs email or web browsing. but anything on the orange wap page. wsp://orange.multimedia ps that is only available on spv handset connecting up using orange wap connection not orange gprs internet. as i said i can't remember what was said about open access but think its just rebranding access pack.
Guest Gorskar Posted April 25, 2003 Report Posted April 25, 2003 Well I just had my bill today, and I'm billed for the SPV promotion pack until 18th May, which I'm sure you'll agree is beyond the 30th April they originally said.
Guest rhaleuk Posted April 25, 2003 Report Posted April 25, 2003 Well to add to the confusion, I spoke to my friend at the Orange shop today and leanred the following: TODAY they had through a new pricing/news sheet and it again states the promotion pack is finishing April 31st. I showed her the news report on coolsmartphone.com about the supposed extension. She then phoned Orange to get more info - right there and then for me and after 5 minutes on hold she was told that indeed it WAS finishing at the end of the month. The saga continues... my billing date is May 5th.
Guest skimask Posted April 25, 2003 Report Posted April 25, 2003 if it wasn't for gears, i'd still be using my spv for just making and recieving phone calls!
Guest drblow Posted April 27, 2003 Report Posted April 27, 2003 i just spoke to orange CS. the promo pack £6 for 10 mb is ending on april 30. but that just means orange won't sign anyone new onto it. CS have confirmed with me for the second time that my gprs will continue unchanged until my june bill date (26th for me) when the new gprs tariff 'of equal or better value' will appear. the guy i spoke to says they recieved written info about it this week & it is confirmed.
Guest badboy4life Posted April 27, 2003 Report Posted April 27, 2003 I've just been on the phone to O customer services and the guy told me that the SPV Pack will be included on my may bill, and i will be transfered to either the £4 GPRS of £8 GPRS on my june bill. He weren't quite sure which one. My billing date is the 10th and he said the Pack will continue on my account till the 9th of June and then change.
Guest simon11 Posted April 27, 2003 Report Posted April 27, 2003 I've just been on the phone to O customer services and the guy told me that the SPV Pack will be included on my may bill, and i will be transfered to either the £4 GPRS of £8 GPRS on my june bill. He weren't quite sure which one. My billing date is the 10th and he said the Pack will continue on my account till the 9th of June and then change. If that's the deal. I will cancel my gprs it's too pricy.
Guest PsychoDave Posted April 27, 2003 Report Posted April 27, 2003 I've been billed up to May 21st for GPRS promo. Hopefully means I'll have at least until then but O cust service couldn't explain if thats the case. Oh well I'll just have to wait for that ever ellusive callback. They promised me one so of course they will do it........ :?
Guest simon11 Posted April 28, 2003 Report Posted April 28, 2003 I read somewhere that We will be given at least a months notice before the change. I cann't remember where though!
Guest NickB&SPV Posted April 28, 2003 Report Posted April 28, 2003 Checked out my bill yesterday and found that I have the SPV Promotion Pack unil 15th May. Well Impressed!!!! ;) :)
Guest Tomsk Posted April 29, 2003 Report Posted April 29, 2003 I have just had a sales call from Orange (on my mobile), to make sure I was making full use of the promotion pack and internet access on my SPV. Given my promotion was due to end tomorrow, I asked what was going to happen? Thinking that he was going to offer me a new deal - His response was that as long as I want to keep using it, it'll continue 'as-is' indeffinately at the same monthly rate unless I instruct them otherwise. I am assuming this to be fact as he called me regarding the promotion and not me calling Orange. Hope this helps ;)
Guest Raify Posted April 29, 2003 Report Posted April 29, 2003 i just spoke to ocs to change my plan, and choose a gprs tariff. the girl said that the £6 'unlimited' continues until you tell them otherwise! sounds too good to be true.
Guest Ras Posted April 29, 2003 Report Posted April 29, 2003 Not sure what my bill will say, but I'll tell you what, it doesn't seem that O have made this very easy for themselves...at all !!! So depending on when you bought your SPV (or activated the GPRS), or you billing date, some ppl could run over this dealine (April 30th) by quite a way!!! Come on Orange, get a grip. Either stop it on the 30th or don't (preferably the latter)!!! Just so DrBlow doesn't feel left out, I was quoted "equal or better value" also. After seeing their new GPRS price plans, I have stopped using it...to soften the blow of not having it when I cancel my GPRS all together!!! £3 per MB...honestly !!! Paying such high prices for the transfer of a bunch of 1's and 0's...not for me ;)
Guest davidhorn Posted April 29, 2003 Report Posted April 29, 2003 To be honest, I feel that this could very easily be one of those matters Watchdog would be interested in. They need 500 complaints or more to ensure that Orange is pointed out publicly. I feel, quite frankly, that I've been swindled into getting an SPV based on the cheap data package. How can Orange dare to expect people like you, and me, to continue with them as a service provider when the contract is up. What's more, if they move me onto the £8 package without my consent, I'll be really pissed off. I also bet that there will be no "warnings" when you run over your GPRS allowance. Orange will happily reap in the extra money, and a £3/mb they're going to be doing a lot of reaping.
Guest Chic0 Posted April 29, 2003 Report Posted April 29, 2003 I just rang 156. The guy I spoke to said that the Promotion £6 offer definately ends tomorrow night 30th April.
Guest lucky Posted April 29, 2003 Report Posted April 29, 2003 Before everyone starts flipping out and condemning Orange, jeez as if we havent heard enough of that before, lets consider 2 things. 1/ We all knew that the deal ended on th 30th of April 2/ I have been charged for the SPV access pack till may 22nd. I rang 152 pressed option 4 and spoke with **** who stated that I would remain on the SPV pack as long as I wanted to. Personally I didnt feel happy with his answer but if you look in the phone contract, not the t&c, it states that Orange cannot vary the contract in a way that would disadvantage you. When I purchased the access pack it was explained that I would be placed on a plan of equal or better value. I dont see how it could be better than unlimited?! If we get nothing we just had close to free access for 6mths. In addition we could cause serious crap for Orange with a complaint to oftel. I think Orange are gonna let us have it, because otherwise Im switching to 3g and in all seriousness, I bet that scares the crap out of Orange. Whew that was a long one.
Guest simon11 Posted April 29, 2003 Report Posted April 29, 2003 Sorry to say this but I have just phoned Orange UK. They tell me that the promotion pack for myself will end on the 8th June. I will then be put on the £4.00 standard pack unless I ring them with alternate instructions. There are no more promotions!!!!
