Guest Vector Posted April 27, 2003 Report Posted April 27, 2003 yes... :) SEE, i don't need a nokia after all ,hah ;)
Guest The PocketTV Team Posted April 27, 2003 Report Posted April 27, 2003 hmmm was that the problem =), looks you'll have to set it to update the keys manually with out the variable.... which my reg thing did hehe... instead of the %installdir% just use Storage CardProgram FilesPocketTV =) also some people had problems with the .mpeg extension not registering... for example thats what i added on to the updater before when Davidrm was having a problem because the .mpeg file was not registered maybe only the .mpg file got updated... Yeah well that's not a good fix in the long run, because "Storage Card" may be called differently on various other versions of the phone (e.g. "Cart Memoire" in french). I guess PocketTV will have to fix the registry at run time... a real pain! :-(
Guest ambro Posted April 27, 2003 Report Posted April 27, 2003 ahh yeah languages... bah.. guess we'll have 2 wait for more updates from ms lol but how many before its actually fixed heh
Guest Richie M Posted April 27, 2003 Report Posted April 27, 2003 InstallDir = %CE1%PocketTV ; by default, install in IPSM I've found a bug in your .INF  %CE1% does not = IPSM if you refer to the SDK you would find that %CE1% is actually Program Files. So if you correct your regsettings accordingly it will work. ("Programatically" speak %installdir% will be either IPSMProgram Files or Storage Card Program Files depending on which the user inputs) The Help file in the SDK is there to Help you
Guest The PocketTV Team Posted April 27, 2003 Report Posted April 27, 2003 No, actually the documentation is wrong, %CE1% is the default installation folder, i.e. on the Smartphone it is "IPSMProgram Files". But it does not matter really, because that's not the problem, and you can change that, it will not solve the problem. And hard-coding a pathname to Storage Card... is not a good solution either, because it won't work on phones localized to other languages. I'd like to here what MS says about this CAB installer bug. I bet they never tried to install a real app on the Storage Card during their testing...
Guest midnight Posted April 27, 2003 Report Posted April 27, 2003 errr, i've never had any probs installing any other software on the storage card? you must be doing something wrong somewhere.
Guest Chic0 Posted April 27, 2003 Report Posted April 27, 2003 I may have missed something out during the installation so cannot get Pocket TV to work properly. I have installed from the cab onto the storage card. When I choose select to find file, it comes up saying "Pocket TV file Selector not yet implemented. Please install SmartExplorer.......". I already have the latest version of SmartExplorer installed. Anyone know what I can do to fix this?
Guest The PocketTV Team Posted April 27, 2003 Report Posted April 27, 2003 The problem is not that applications cannot be install on the Storage Card. You can install them just fine, and you can start it from the Home Program menu. All that works. The Shortcut made by the CAB installer in the IPSFWindowsStart Menu folder is correct. What does NOT work is the file association, because it uses registry keys that is created wrong by the CAB installer (when the app is installed on a Storage Card). Must most applications for Smartphone do not use file associations, so the problem was not noticed earlier. PocketTV does need file associations for work, hence the problem!

Guest midnight Posted April 27, 2003 Report Posted April 27, 2003 hmmm, also, i beleive that Storage Card is a standardised name and will not be called any different in this or any other future smartphone os no matter what the language (correct me if i'm wrong, which i'm sure you will)
Guest The PocketTV Team Posted April 27, 2003 Report Posted April 27, 2003 hmmm, also, i beleive that Storage Card is a standardised name and will not be called any different in this or any other future smartphone os no matter what the language (correct me if i'm wrong, which i'm sure you will) I believe you are wrong. It's the same as on Pocket PC. All those names will change (e.g. in the japanese and chinese version!). And also, one day you'll see a Smartphone with two SD slots, and they cannot both be called Storage Card, so one will be Storage Card2 or something like that. A word to developers: Don't EVER hardcode standard path names. Use the MS API to get those names, or the macros (in the .inf file).
Guest muude Posted April 27, 2003 Report Posted April 27, 2003 Has any got an estimate on the filesize of an entire mov (2 hrs)??
Guest The PocketTV Team Posted April 27, 2003 Report Posted April 27, 2003 Has any got an estimate on the filesize of an entire mov (2 hrs)??About 100 MB for 2h (at 120 Kbit/sec, i.e. same quality as the demos that are at http://www.pockettv.com/mpg/sp/ )
Guest Richie M Posted April 27, 2003 Report Posted April 27, 2003 or learn where %CE1% is. I dont understand what your difficulty is with understanding the CE strings, no one else has ever had a problem with installing to the Phone or Storage Card - it is really very simple. Or why don't you do the Translations yourself in XML, or just dont give the user the option of where to install ?

You did not read my post: The problem is not that applications cannot be install on the Storage Card. You can install them just fine, and you can start them from the Home Program menu. BTW all this has nothing to do with %CE1%, because it is overwritten when installing on the Storage card. And for your information, %CE1% is the default application installation directory, and we have no problem understanding %CE% strings. On the English-localized Pocket PC it is "Program Files". On the English-localized Smartphone, it is "IPSMProgram Files". This is not documented, but that's what it is, and you can easiely verify that apps that are installed on a smartphone go in IPSM (otherwise they would disapear when you turn off your phone). Be careful, the US forces are not done yet, they may come for you, even if your face is not on the deck of cards ;)
Guest Chic0 Posted April 27, 2003 Report Posted April 27, 2003 You must install Smart Explorer on the phone (not on the Storage Card). PocketTV looks for it on the phone, in "IPSFProgram FilesBinarysSmart ExplorerSmartExplorer.exe" I already had Smartexplorer installed on the phone but i removed it and installed the latest verison 1.0b4. Now when I go to Select in Pocket TV, it opens up Smartexplorer, but the mpgs are not associated with Pocket TV. When i click on one, it says that its unable to open file. When I go to file associations in Pocket TV, it says that mpgs are already associated with it. :?
Guest The PocketTV Team Posted April 27, 2003 Report Posted April 27, 2003 Maybe this new version of Smart Explorer has a bug ? Can this be confirmed by someone else ? Or maybe you should apply again the registry patch mentionned in the first post of this thread (item number 5 in that post).
Guest muude Posted April 27, 2003 Report Posted April 27, 2003 I've got the new Smart Explorer version and I'm now running without any probs... 2 hours = 100 mb... That's 2 complete flicks on my card... Sweet...

Installed the registry update and now everything works fine. :) Cheers for your help and for a wicked little app! ;)
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted April 27, 2003 Report Posted April 27, 2003 Back for a quick bit, I had it installed on my storage card as well  Working now very sweet. MVP was good but for user friendly this little app of yours is hard to beat. Thanks :) Now to install it on my axim ;)
Guest The PocketTV Team Posted April 27, 2003 Report Posted April 27, 2003 I'd be curious to have some comparison between WMP and PocketTV (on the Smartphone) in terms of video quality, framerate and file size. I think you can make files that are smaller in size with WMP (say, 60 to 90 Kbit/sec for the same video size and the same audio quality as our demos which are coded at 120 Kbit/sec). But how does WMP fare with the framerate ?
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted April 27, 2003 Report Posted April 27, 2003 with what I have converted and seen with WMP is just pants :) but then again clinteastman's not released anything in that format, YET ;)
Guest midnight Posted April 27, 2003 Report Posted April 27, 2003 you really need to compare to pocketmvp, that is the current movie player of choice in terms of quality/filesize which far exceeds those of wmp
Guest Palindrome Posted April 27, 2003 Report Posted April 27, 2003 And even if WMP was slightly better quality (which, I agree, I ain't) the functionality of PocketMVP and PocketTV are hugely superior to WMP.
Guest The PocketTV Team Posted April 27, 2003 Report Posted April 27, 2003 you really need to compare to pocketmvp, that is the current movie player of choice in terms of quality/filesize which far exceeds those of wmp But I don't think that PocketMVP has a nice UI on Smartphone. The beta that I have seen of PocketMVP on the Smartphone was very basic, playing only a file wth a hard-coded name. And when I compared it with PocketTV, I got about 17 fps on mpeg files that I could play at 30 fps with PocketTV.
