Not sure if its could be a setting in the phone or a fault. Not seen this one before. I take it no other SIM works ? If so, then I would maybe consider hard resetting the phone (as a last resort though).

Can you get someone to send you a text message ?

hard resett the phone earlier to de-cert all other sims give full reception but no out going or incoming calls will try to send text off lycos

Something must have gone wrong on the decert ? ;) I would hard reset the phone and try again. People have had problems with MMS after decert but this is the first time I've heard of losing the ability to make calls.

First do a hard reset and unluck networks. If you can make calls again then re-do the decert.

Right. So you bought the phone but you've not had it working yet.

If so the phone itself might be barred.

how do i find out for sure if that is the case and can it be undone.

Well put it this way. If the phone WAS dodgy.

If the phone IMEI check failed, the network could then fail your IMSI attach, i.e no access/bars etc. ;)

Or, after the IMEI check failed, the network could allow you to complete an IMSI attach but bar your incoming and outoing calls. Using this method you will have successfully accessed the vodaphone network register with your IMSI (SIM/ACCOUNT) and a dodgy (IMEI) phone.

Lets hope it is just a faulty phone then. (bit suspicious though)

I am having the same problem with my phone. I have T-Mobile. I get full reception, but I can't make or receive calls. Then if I shut the phone off and turn it back on it works for a while. I wish I knew why it did this.

Even with all that happening I don't seem to have any problems receiving text messages.

Not sure how to check if it was IMEI barred - maybe someone at modaco who works with customer services might know.

It could still be a faulty phone but ir look more like barring of services.

When the puts itself into some kind of sleep mode. Where the screen goes blank is when I seem to stop receiving calls. Is this normal and is there a way to shut that off

Give Orange a call as they would more likly be the people to bar it.

Also if your mate was a bit strapped for cash to go on holiday there

is then the possibility of him not paying his phone bill, this would be one

of the reasons the phones barred.

There are only two reasons the phone could be barred 1/ money owing

on it or 2/ stolen.

Finally the one thing I have not seen poted on this topic is that you still

have not tried an Orange sim card in it only Vodaphone and Tmobile
