Does anyone know if we are being charged for updates?

as my bill came in I had used over 2MB and all I had done

apart from updating (inc Switzerland updates) was to view a

couple of web pages.

Just spoken to Orange and....

Quote "there's an option to update on the phone?"

they are not sure but they don't think so?

but they could not explain my usage.

So after three months if you choose the lowest package

and go over your tiny 0.5MB expect a nasty bill

The operator did tell me that if I had IE working I should be lucky as

the majority of users were having a bad time with their SPV's,

she also thought it was shocking to find out that if we want to monitor our own GPRS usage we had to buy an add-on program.

Orange try to be helpful but their product training is a bit to be desired :D .

As we are all talking about the 10MB cap would there be some way that we could decide our usage i.e (when the promo is over) and when that limit has been reached our access is automaticaly blocked without a call to Orange to increase the ammount? could be a way to stop nasty bills.

Any ideas if this is possible?

Just spoke to Orange and the answer is NO  If you go over it's.. "here Mr Orange have a blank cheque"

Either that or you have to have GPRS disabled, so it's all or nothing

Conversation I had with Orange about GPRS when I ordered my phone went along the lines of,

The all inclusive package is being offered becasue we haven't yet implemented the software required to monitor usage.

BTW if you use GPRS in several countries at the moment including Finland (The only one I've tried) you don't get charged anything at the moment for the same reason, Sonera finland start charging 1st March, I guess other countries will be about the same time.
