Guest mattat Posted May 8, 2003 Report Posted May 8, 2003 The seeking works beautifully, great job guys, BTW - I can't hear any beeps while seeking... did you solve this problem?
Guest The PocketTV Team Posted May 8, 2003 Report Posted May 8, 2003 > The seeking works beautifully, great job guys, Thanks :-) At least it works better than with PocketDivX... Yes, I know, it's not hard to get better than them (i.e. total loss of a/v sync after seeking!). Still some minor problems, e.g. the time elapsed is not updated correctly when seeking, and we have some ideas to make it even better. But the seeking is quite nice as it is now. > BTW - I can't hear any beeps while seeking... did you solve this problem? No... What is the value of your Home Programs > Settings > Sounds > Keypad Control ? Maybe the problem is phone-specific (w saw it on the Red-e).
Guest mattat Posted May 8, 2003 Report Posted May 8, 2003 Mine is set to "none", might well be phone-specific. If someone else could confirm it might help matters
Guest The PocketTV Team Posted May 8, 2003 Report Posted May 8, 2003 Mine is set to "none", might well be phone-specific. If someone else could confirm it might help matters "None" means that the keys do not click, so it works fine. Set it to "Click" and seek, you'll see what I mean...
Guest mattat Posted May 8, 2003 Report Posted May 8, 2003 Sorry misread the earlier post - thought you'd said that even setting it to none did not stop it. However I've set it to click, and all I get is the tiny beep when you first press the button - not annoying at all (if you have clicks on anyway) - do you mean this [i.e. only when you initially press the button] or are you finding that it clicks all the time while seeking, because this is NOT happening with mine.

I mean permanent beeps when seeking, quite ennoying... but this seems to be a Red-e-specific issue. Good! :)
Guest The PocketTV Team Posted May 8, 2003 Report Posted May 8, 2003 By the way, we have just released BETA-22, which just fixes the "elapsed time" update when seeking. Now it is correctly updated while you seek. It would probably be a good idea to add the new default mapping automatically to all keys that are not currently mapped, so that people who had an earlier beta don't have to do anything to get the seeking functions on the cursor... For now, you need to reset the default mapping with Menu > Functions > Menu > Default Mapping in order to get the seeking functions mapped on the cursor ... or you can map them manually with Menu > Functions > Menu > Map Function
Guest NickB&SPV Posted May 8, 2003 Report Posted May 8, 2003 Downloaded the latest version of Pocket TV followed instructions. Still getting file association error message when trying to open movie clips. What am I doing wrong?
Guest The PocketTV Team Posted May 8, 2003 Report Posted May 8, 2003 Downloaded the latest version of Pocket TV followed instructions. Still getting file association error message when trying to open movie clips. What am I doing wrong?  What BETA number does it say when you start PocketTV ? (if you are already running it, select PocketTV Menu > Back and start PocketTv again, it will display a message with the BETA number) Have you tried PocketTV Menu > More... > Files > File Association ? What does it say ?
Guest NickB&SPV Posted May 8, 2003 Report Posted May 8, 2003 It is still the Beta21 version. I installes it yesterday but had file association problem so re-installed what I thought what was the new version. Anyway I downloaded monsterinc demo from the link and stored it on storage card in pocket TV folder with .exe file. Message comes up when I try to open : "Unable to open the file. The system returned error File association not available" I have been throught menu procedure about file association but still I keep getting the same message.

Again, when you go in PocketTV Menu > More... > Files > File Association, what does it say ? Also, if you know how to use a registry editor, can you tell me the values under the following two registry keys: HKCR.mpg HKCRpockettv_mpgfileShellOpenCommand Since the problem you have does not affect everyone else, and we cannot reproduce it, we'll need your help to get to the bottom of it, thanks! When you install PocketTV from the CAB file, it sets the Default string of HKCR.mpg to pockettv_mpgfile. And when you run PocketTV, it creates HKCRpockettv_mpgfileShellOpenCommand and set the Default string value to something like: "Storage CardProgram FilesPocketTVPocketTV.exe" "%1" If PocketTV has a problem creating or updating the Registry keys for some reason, it pop an error message. What do you find in those keys ?
Guest NickB&SPV Posted May 9, 2003 Report Posted May 9, 2003 I have looked in the Registry Editor and I have identical to what you said. I have noticed that monstersinc & matrix that I downloaded are .mp2 files. When I go into the file assoc menu it does not mention this file format. Would this be a problem ? Thanks in advance.
Guest The PocketTV Team Posted May 9, 2003 Report Posted May 9, 2003 Yes!!! those files should have an extension .mpg or .mpeg! I have no idea why they go renamed .mp2... probably something messed-up on your desktop PC.
Guest NickB&SPV Posted May 9, 2003 Report Posted May 9, 2003 Can I download a converter to change the file format? Can you recommend one? Thanks for your help.
Guest The PocketTV Team Posted May 9, 2003 Report Posted May 9, 2003 Can I download a converter to change the file format? Can you recommend one? Thanks for your help. I don't think you need to change the format, you just need to change the file extension. That is, if the files you have are in fact MPEG files. If you downloaded then from http://www.pockettv.com/mpg/sp/ , then they are in the right format and should have an extension .mpeg or .mpg . If for some reason they have a different extension after ytou downloaded them, just change the extension. Otherwise, you can use TMPGEnc to convert files to MPEG, this is explained in the PocketTV installation page that you must have read.
Guest NickB&SPV Posted May 9, 2003 Report Posted May 9, 2003 Changed the file extension to mpeg and it works!! Thanks once again for your help. P.S impressed with the widescreen option.
Guest The PocketTV Team Posted May 9, 2003 Report Posted May 9, 2003 This new BETA-23 fixes a few stability issues. let us know if you find any problem with it. Since we modified quite a few internal parts in order to improve a/v sync, it is possible (and even likely) that we introduced some problems causing possible freezing. We'll fix them soon! Thanks! :)
Guest lllr Posted May 9, 2003 Report Posted May 9, 2003 Can PocketTV save a log of the frame per second rate while playing a clip? It would be useful to know the average FPS number of a clip. Kevin
Guest The PocketTV Team Posted May 10, 2003 Report Posted May 10, 2003 Can PocketTV save a log of the frame per second rate while playing a clip? It would be useful to know the average FPS number of a clip. Kevin The fps displayed is always the average fps from the time playing began (e.g. you pressed PLAY). To see the average fps on an entire stream: 1) deselect REPEAT in the Menu, to prevent the file from loop to the start when the end is reached. 2) play the file from beginning to end. When the file stops at the end, the fps displayed is the average over the entire file.
Guest The PocketTV Team Posted May 10, 2003 Report Posted May 10, 2003 Basically four things in BETA-25: - We fixed a problem causing occasional lock-ups when loading a file or switching to Fullscreen/Landscape - We improved performances of the Fullscreen/Landscape by more than 10%. - We improved noticeably the load-time when opening a new file and the Fullscreen/Landscape switch time. - The "Size" option with "Reduce if too large" and "Fit Screen" will play at Nominal size if the size of the video is "almost" the size of the screen (i.e. +- 8 pixels difference). This improves performances drasticaly when playing Fullscreen streams encoded at 224x176 (like this one with the "Reduce if too large" option selected. The height of the smartphone display is 220 but that's not a multiple of 8, and some MPEG encoders, like TMPGEnc, only support width that are multiple of 8! The next multiple of 8 is 224. This BETA-25 should be a good, fast and stable version. We recommend to upgrade to that one if you have an older BETA.

Guest mattat Posted May 10, 2003 Report Posted May 10, 2003 The new BETA runs fantastically - great job, also still very impressed by the seeking. Thanks guys
Guest The PocketTV Team Posted May 10, 2003 Report Posted May 10, 2003 > The new BETA runs fantastically - great job, also still very impressed by the seeking. Thanks! Yes, it's the best Smartphone BETA we made until now, so keep a safe copy of this CAB file until we get something even better (i.e. with a built-in file explorer and a few other nices features). We are quite happy with the seeking feature, too. It's easy to use and works well. We had a hard time finding the source of a memory corruption problem that was causing occasional lock-ups, but we finally solved it, after many hours of painstaking work. Each time we have a problem like that, we try to get to the bottom of it :-) If you ever find a way to cause PocketTV to misbehave, or to have bad a/v sync, please let us know.
