Guest James Posted May 22, 2003 Report Posted May 22, 2003 i cant download cab files from the mobile modaco!
Guest nedge2k Posted May 23, 2003 Report Posted May 23, 2003 It works, it works, it works, it works, it works!! Sorry, jus sharing my excitement. The world of mobile downloads is my lobster!
Guest madu Posted May 23, 2003 Report Posted May 23, 2003 hehe :) As I said before and will note this again: not all servers are set up properly to handle uploads to PocketIE, so you may be having trouble (still)... that is both .cab and .zip files, even media files sometimes...
Guest fozzie Posted May 23, 2003 Report Posted May 23, 2003 So c'mon Paul, when will be able to download zips from Mobile MoDaCo ? :)
Guest nedge2k Posted May 23, 2003 Report Posted May 23, 2003 hi. jus a quick msg to those of you who may still be having problems. if you have stored SE on the storage card you're going to have to change the paths of the values in the "isce_zipfile" (in reg edit - HK Root) from an "IPSMProgram Files" etc. path to a "Storage CardProgram Files" path. Do this for "Default Icon" and "ShellOpenCommand". Once done, on download of a zip file, instead of gettin an error and havin to retrieve the file from Volitile, SE will kick in automatically and ask where you want it unzipped to!
Guest madu Posted May 23, 2003 Report Posted May 23, 2003 SE should register files properly by default, but i suggest you install it on phone. it is small and when you swap cards to say load a few files from a mate...you know.. i will make a cab for exe files when i'm back from holiday. posting mobile now..
Guest nedge2k Posted May 23, 2003 Report Posted May 23, 2003 SE does. however, if you first installed it on the phone then copied it across to the SD to free up space or vice versa, it wont automatically change them. then you have to start fiddlin.
Guest fozzie Posted May 23, 2003 Report Posted May 23, 2003 ok, done a bit more testing. I've downloaded some zips from smartphone.modaco but got errors when trying some cabs ?! I've not been able to download either zips or cabs from mobile.modaco :? Anyway, cheers Madu for the patch. Does the job nicely providing, as you say, the web server supports whatever it is that it needs to support! It would be handy to know what exactly is the difference in configuration between the web servers that allow the downloading & those that don't.
Guest jacoch Posted May 23, 2003 Report Posted May 23, 2003 SE does. however, if you first installed it on the phone then copied it across to the SD to free up space or vice versa, it wont automatically change them. then you have to start fiddlin. I arrive a bit later, but the problem with Smart Explorer, when installed on the SD card, comes from the smartphone installer. It does not write path properly in the registry. Although there is a variable for that purpose, %InstallDir%, the smartphone installer always write path as IPSM. This problem is fixed in new release, that always check the registry path at startup. New release also adds the registry EditFlags parameter. Should appear within some days.
Guest nedge2k Posted May 23, 2003 Report Posted May 23, 2003 Quick question for those in the know: a while back i found a reg tweak to change the PIE config and allow sites to think it was a normal PC IE. My question is this, would doing this fool the servers, like MoDaCo's, which dont work correctly for PIE downloads, into thinking there being viewed from a normal browser and thus download correctly? No error msgs, no pages of code? Or am i jus wishful thinkin?
Guest madu Posted June 24, 2003 Report Posted June 24, 2003 No, due to software and OS limitations in reading different file types, each file must be registered (to download) with PIE. It is just one flag that needs to be set in registry. Can be done for any type of file and also I guess you can make it d/l any file as a PIE webpage. Have not looked into that though.
Guest wolfe Posted July 16, 2003 Report Posted July 16, 2003 Hello everyone - In order for a CAB file to be downloaded and installed successfully to your SPV, the web server has to serve out .CAB files with the MIME type (Mail Internet Multi-media Extension type) of "application/octet-stream" IIS servers already have this file extension association. Other Web Servers have to have this explicitely set. -- John
Guest Scarfman007 Posted July 26, 2003 Report Posted July 26, 2003 Or, indeed, .cab files even! I'm on holiday, but still might want to download a few apps if any are released (the inner geek in me is strong..). So I remember seeing this post and try to download the .cab file that will let my phone download .zip files.. only to be told that it can't be viewed on this device! And I thought was practically the only thing that could be downloaded via PIE.. ! Or is it just that mobile modaco not set up properly to allow this yet?? If so, any word on when it'll be enabled (Paul?)? Cheers, Scarfman Posted from my SmartPhone!
Guest HighBimmin Posted January 9, 2004 Report Posted January 9, 2004 I was wondering if anyone knows what has to be special about a particular server in order to download a cab file or maybe a zip file or any file??? I know its possible cause i found one site that lets you select yes to download the file instead of it opening up code in the window. What do i need to tell my host to change?? Thanks
Guest adonniss2000 Posted April 7, 2004 Report Posted April 7, 2004 gud evening. im still waiting for the possibility that in the near future, we can download files using our mobile device. i hope that master paul would be able to solve this problem. thank you fellow modaco members and to you, master paul.
