I registered for a GPRS bundle yesterday (15/05/03) 3 months free and then start paying.  I was told that I would receive a text which I had to delete and then turn off phone for 2 minutes.  I am still waiting for the text, I have phoned Orange who said they have had a problem with the network which has delayed their text's being sent.

How much longer do I have to wait.

I'm afraid you did not :( see my post here.

the muppets have sold you a WAP service not a GPRS service.

It took me five attempts to get the correct answer.

I was told that they had a meeting and explained the new WAP offer

but most of their operators still believe it's a GPRS service

EDIT  sorry just noticed Simon gave the same link

At least i got a credit on my account for all the hassle they put me through. :)

Yes, cleverly worded indeed! But at the end of the day, clever words or not - people understood the promo pack to be replaced by something of "equal or better VALUE".

We are going onto a pricing structure which is lower in COST - but definately not in VALUE.

We've been through this argument before and at the end of the day we all knew it was a promotional package. Promotional, to me, suggests a better than usual VALUE. I read it as you'd be put on a cheaper priced package, but not better VALUE.

At the end of the day cancel it if you can't afford it or won't use it. Don't cancel it just to spite Orange. IMHO Orange GPRS prices are in-line with the other networks so you can't complain about them too much.

I use a little GPRS each month and intend to keep it. I'm just glad Orange gave me the chance to get bored of it while on the promotional unlimited package. I'm now down to about 2-3Mb per month from 20-30Mb at the beginning.

My $0.02 worth,

Barry

ok compare orange gprs prices to other networks gprs prices - vodafone for voda wap pages 0.1p p/KB. Other pages 0.73p - dunno about o2 though. t-mobile 0.75p/kb and orange if i think i'm getting the difference between mb and kb is 0.3p/kb without any bundles at all.

if thats the case then yes t-mobile charge 7.50 for 1mb useage - voda charge £1/mb of own wap stuff or non voda/web/e-mail £7.30/mb.

and orange is still cheaper at £3/mb as have you ever used your phone for orange wap? very rarely - wap is wsp://orange.multimedia/ and you need to change your phone to connect through the wap network. with the spv its easy to send e-mail and web surf and not use orange wap which is limited.

I see what you are saying m8 - but personally, just because the other companies are even more expensive, I still can't justify spending that kind of money for the gprs service. Like I say, it's just that for me personally, I find gprs to be at best a troublesome service - don't get me wrong, I love having access to the internet any time, any place - and maybe if gprs had been like super reliable, super quick, etc from the start ...

I will miss having gprs on the phone, but it is so bad most of the time, it has gimmick value but not much more. I just point blank refuse to sign up for these proposed new costs. The service is just not worth it.

And I am still holding a grudge against Orange for the whole promo being replaced by "equal or better value". I mean ... what? were the staff just lying to us for a laugh?? Did Orange issue this as a point of sale ethic - "just tell 'em anything, once they've signed up , their OURS!! HA HA HA!!"

Well, it just p**ses me off to have a company try to stick their grubby hands into my wallet & I say NO!!

I wouldn't expect anybody at Orange to necessarily do anything about it - but if even say 1000 people all cancel their gprs bundles on the same day, saying the same thing - surely somebody at Orange will have to at least realise that not all their customers will just roll over like obedient dogs when they say "play dead!!"

"Go back to sleep, Orange customers... here, have another gprs bundle ..."

You might want to try reading the options again, last one

"or set up your phone only by following our printable guide"
