Guest wbloore Posted May 22, 2003 Report Posted May 22, 2003 That depends whether you think that's worth it. My comments that the menu is fast wasn't an opinion on whether it was worth upgrading, because I would say that having to do a hard reset is not worth it. Installing all the software I have, entering serial numbers and configuring the registry etc is a pain.
Guest mattbrown Posted May 22, 2003 Report Posted May 22, 2003 ive just done the update - i think it is worth it
Guest mattbrown Posted May 22, 2003 Report Posted May 22, 2003 altho now all my gprs settings hav gone
Guest mattbrown Posted May 22, 2003 Report Posted May 22, 2003 ok i stick the info in for the dialup settings but it wont save it - help!! [that'll teach me for sticking anothers operators patch onto my phone]
Guest vijay555 Posted May 22, 2003 Report Posted May 22, 2003 People, what makes this upgrade worth it? Madu, you seem best qualified: what does it add, tangibly? Are the menus faster just because you've hard reset and cleaned your pipes? Does it add ia album? Does Character counter work? Anything else? V
Guest martin Posted May 22, 2003 Report Posted May 22, 2003 After all the complaints of GPRS peformance loss (streaming etc) after the last Orange update, can anyone confirm if any definate improvements are noted with the Smart OS. This is the one area that I would be most interested in. Cheers :)
Guest Pagemakers Posted May 22, 2003 Report Posted May 22, 2003 Mattbrown - did you hard rest your phone after the upgrade. Maybe that will fix things
Guest fozzie Posted May 22, 2003 Report Posted May 22, 2003 I've installed it and it works great............... The only problem is I can't send SMS messages. Looks like I will be going back to the Orange Rom version. hmmm, works great - SMS doesn't work - going back to the Orange ROM. An all round success - well worth it then :?: :?
Guest Simon Desser Posted May 22, 2003 Report Posted May 22, 2003 After all the complaints of GPRS peformance loss (streaming etc) after the last Orange update, can anyone confirm if any definate improvements are noted with the Smart OS. This is the one area that I would be most interested in. Cheers :) Yep, I can confirm that streaming media works a treat with the Smart update :( However SMS doesn't work, unless you do a hard reset. I did this, then I used USBTerm to restore my IPSM, and then SMS stops working again :D So, unless someone knows how to fit it, I'm gonna go back to the Orange UK Rom?
Guest Thurstan Posted May 22, 2003 Report Posted May 22, 2003 Does anyone know any sort of timeframe for the Uk update?
Guest vijay555 Posted May 22, 2003 Report Posted May 22, 2003 what's the fuss with hard reset. jeez, i haven't got that much installed :) Seriously, anything truly useful, or should we just wait on uk version (at which juncture i gues we're going to have to hard reset anyway?) V
Guest mattbrown Posted May 22, 2003 Report Posted May 22, 2003 ive sorted the gprs now it does add ia album seems faster menues
Guest mattbrown Posted May 22, 2003 Report Posted May 22, 2003 ok update - my k/board now doesnt work - if you run the k/board update it aknowledges that the rom is the newset version and installs the drive but when i plug it in nothing happens and i cant calibrate it - so im thinking of reverting back to the orig orange rom - DAM! it was fun while it lasted
Guest mattbrown Posted May 22, 2003 Report Posted May 22, 2003 another thing - im stuck in CAR profile!!!!
Guest madu Posted May 22, 2003 Report Posted May 22, 2003 1 what does it add, tangibly? 2 Are the menus faster just because you've Hard Reset and cleaned your pipes? 3 Does it add ia album? 4 Does Character counter work? 5 Anything else? 1. Not much. A little better & more responsive generally, but nothing noticeable. 2. Erm, somewhat yes. I've put all my soft back on and the menus are pretty much same. The thing is that when a menu folder is opened it reads all icons for links from exe files. Now Games folder is my slowest, but they have bigger exe and all need to be pulled of SD card.. Slightly offtopic I know. So the answer is really - no significant difference here. 3. Yes! And it is stored in Windows (ROM) that way loading faster and always being present... Quicker response to pressing 'capture' and actually taking a pic.. 4. Yes, but buggy as always. Though as long as you put any number(ie 0) after recepient's name it will count. Then just go up and take that number away. Hit send. 5. Boots faster. Has a better 'virtual' value... :D As I said, this is not worth it if you are not a techno-freak and wanna have the latest stuff. Just too much hassle and it is not supported (obv.) by O. On the other hand, you may feel like playing with the beast for a few hours to get it on SMART. OH, almost forgot.. the MOST important change is that the Sunset O screen is gone!! Hooray!! Now it's just a SMART logo on white background! Def looks better :) :( Now I have no more to say and retire... If you still have not made up your mind - WAIT FOR O UPDATE!
Guest Pagemakers Posted May 22, 2003 Report Posted May 22, 2003 Madu - you are not having any of mattbrown's problems then? Also as a matter of interest, Eurotel's smartphone software version 1.4.1.57 does not have an sms counter.
Guest madu Posted May 22, 2003 Report Posted May 22, 2003 Strange... Have you tried entering a number manually (ie 12345) in To: field? still no?? As I said I had a full ROM backup image, and in fact I just restored WINCE from there via bootloader. Then my IPSM was totally reset on the next boot. So it was like updating it your way and then hard-resetting....
Guest mattbrown Posted May 22, 2003 Report Posted May 22, 2003 update to my smart update - couldnt get my kboard to work at all so back to orange rom it went - bolx!!!!
