SPV power through USB cradle

I have just performed the cradle power mod as described at CoolSmartPhone. I got one of the hardware engineers at my company to do it as he has access to all the relevant gear.

Put it all back together and although the sync stuff still works fine, no power. Has anyone else tried this and had success/failure.

Any advice? This would be so useful to me as it means I can travel with one less power brick and converter...

No power? The only thing it can be it that the mod has not been done correctly.

I presume he's counted the connectors from the wrong end or something?

I've had it running now since it first came out and it's the best thing I did

I just took the whole thing apart and discovered that the new cable got cri mped in the casing!

New cable soldered and re-routed and it works!!!

Why do they not ship this as a standard feature - with the additon of a suitable diode you could use either USB power or external power.

Some systems cannot handle the powerdrain, ie too many usb devices being used etc.

So they play safe and provide their own power supply, but the option would have been nice.
