Guest gissing Posted March 27, 2003 Report Posted March 27, 2003 Excellent. Looking forward to getting my hands on someone elses code
Guest HelloDave Posted March 29, 2003 Report Posted March 29, 2003 Well, anyone who hasn't checked their e-mail yet, Beta 1 has been released! Unfortunately they messed up the copying of documents to the phone in this version, so you can only view their samples, but my initial impressions are quite good. The software integrates with Office and IE to let you copy docs straight to the phone, anything else is converted and copied using a virtual printer (there isn't an ActiveSync filter), so you can view any document that can be printed on the SPV. They've done the best they can with the small screen, and you can view full screen, scroll and zoom quite easily. There's also a "flow" view, which flows the text of any document vertically down the screen so you can read it easily just by vertically scrolling (although the layout is lost obviously).

The Beta 1 problem has been fixed. Beta testers, please check your email for instructions. Dave - Cerience
Guest HelloDave Posted March 29, 2003 Report Posted March 29, 2003 Thanks for that Dave - new version copies files beautifully! I've e-mailed you re a different bug though!
Guest Syvwlch Posted March 29, 2003 Report Posted March 29, 2003 Works well sa far! at least with text heavy files. Will try comics next, and spreadsheets
Guest spacemonkey Posted March 29, 2003 Report Posted March 29, 2003 Damn... it's started but I gave them my work email address.. so I'll have to wait till monday.
Guest Syvwlch Posted March 29, 2003 Report Posted March 29, 2003 Ayee! it's awesome! Comics, web pages! Spreadsheet, eBooks! it's fantastic! As long as you are careful with margins, it makes quite readable files! This is way cool!
Guest HelloDave Posted March 29, 2003 Report Posted March 29, 2003 Don't forget the "flow" option Syvwlch (key 2) - that'll fit anything to the screen providing you're not bothered about pictures.
Guest Syvwlch Posted March 29, 2003 Report Posted March 29, 2003 Yep. That is one of the best features but yeah, i was refining to image heavy docs this time or spreadsheets... flow don't work none then...
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted March 30, 2003 Report Posted March 30, 2003 I am very impressed, especially with the webpage viewer. I'll be converting some jpg's of london so i can find my way to the meet ;) Seriously though, i've viewed so many files, and it converts to "flow" amazingly well. Definately one to buy
Guest spacemonkey Posted March 31, 2003 Report Posted March 31, 2003 I'm very much liking this app... it's all very clean and easy to use. A few things I'd be interested in tho: A batch way of converting web pages. So you could convert a dozen web news sites automatically each morning. Even If I had to copy these to the phone by hand, it'd still make it very easy. Search. Being able to find and find next for a text string would be a useful feature. Printing. On the pocket PC versions it can print to IR printers, if this could work on Smartphone it would be very handy. I'm very tempted to purchase the final version, although the price tag (around $40US for the pocket PC version) does seem a little steep. I can see people for whom that cost would not be an issue, but for the actual use I'd get out of it... don't know... If it had the batch conversion of web pages so I could use it similar to what Avantgo used to do for my palm that'd be a major feature to convince me to spend the ca$h.
