Guest Lojt Posted February 3, 2003 Report Posted February 3, 2003 I have the same problem: http://www.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=2645
Guest pxtigermoon Posted February 6, 2003 Report Posted February 6, 2003 I don't know if it's just me, but for some reason, I wasn't able to send MMS if any of my numbers had a space in them. 07973xxxxxx worked (yep - I still have an old number) +447973xxxxxx is okay too. But *ANY* difference in the format, and it'll fail for me. Don't know why. Ar$e really, because my Outlook (PC) auto-formats phone numbers to be +44 7973 xxxxxx. Personally, I'd like to see phone number formatting standardised throughout the whole world. But then, that's me. Heh ^_- And have standard land phones with a + button. <...goes off to dream of his ideal telecoms world... MAN i'm sad...>
Guest joe90102 Posted June 4, 2003 Report Posted June 4, 2003 I've downloaded the software, however it's only changed around 6 of my numbers to +44 format. Any ideas? Exactly my problem... Please help
Guest earthling0001 Posted August 13, 2003 Report Posted August 13, 2003 Hi, great little program, but it doesn't do what we need as it ignores half my numbers that start with a bracket (e.g. "(020)") and uses the incorrect format. The ITU (International Telecommunication Union) agreed a worldwide standard for formatting numbers, which your program changes to its own idea of how they should be :? I attach the ITU document, but basically here is the problem: Your program changes... From (020) 8234 5678 To +44 208 2345678 It should be... +44 20 8234 5678 The reason for this is that the (020) or +44 20 symbolises the part of the number you do not need to dial if you are already in that area. E.g. if you live inside an 020 area code, you do not need to dial 020. Where your program falls down is that it implies you need to dial just 2345678 if you live inside an 0208 or 208 area code. However there is no 208 or 0208 area code. The area code for London is just 020. A lot of people are confused by this and get it wrong, so don't worry, but if you look in a proper BT phone book you'll see the correct formatting as (020) not (0208). What would be great is if you could specify the FROM type of number to change into the TO type, e.g.: FROM (xxx) xxxx xxxx TO +xx xx xxxx xxxx This would change (020) 1234 5678 to +44 20 1234 5678, the agreed ITU standard (attached), but crucially it would not change (01234) 567890 to +44 1234567890 which would be incorrect formatting. The correct way to change that would be: FROM (xxxxx) xxxxxx TO +44 xxxx xxxxxx Which would change (01234) 567890 to +44 1234 567890 (note different spaces). Also for mobiles we need a different approach again: FROM xxxxx xxxxxx TO +44 xxxx xxxxxx Which would change 07974 123456 to +44 7974 123456. Also, it strips the text from all my numbers :) E.g. for some numbers I have: Business: (020) 1234 5678 - Kelly Business 2: (020) 1234 5679 - Lucy Your program removes the text so I no longer know who I'm calling on each line. Hope you can implement these suggestions soon. RSVP. CJSnetITU E.123.pdf
