does not sound too good (or it's an hidden option, because it sounds a bit weird to offer a dump IPSM option with no possible restore )

did you try to play a bit with USBterm to see if there was someone listening on the phone  ?

I bought a new 256M sd card, and sucessfully dumped my IPSM.It is a file with 32M size, seems not be encrypted, because i can see some english words in it.

I think only restroring IPSM is not enough, the most important is to replace the files in /windows while or before system rebuild IPSM.

another idea:the "SecurityPolicy" setting or the registry is saved in IPSM,if it is true, then theoretically you could edit IPSM data dumped into card, restore it into phone

I have searched usbterm on the web, it seems a great utility for spv user to backup/restore everythings on spv,a really great job, admiring.

But it is ill luck that i can not visite your site http://www.smartphone.fr.fm/  ,could you email me one? i pm you my email address

good news ! at least we know that the IPSM can be saved

another idea:the "SecurityPolicy" setting or the registry is saved in IPSM,if it is true, then theoretically you could edit IPSM data dumped into card, restore it into phone

that was the idea  (but there's still some work to do to understand/process the registry file format) - since changing the files in Windows means changing the OS ROM

Note : Smartphone.fr.fm is not my site  but you can get USBterm here http://www.smart-expert.com/modules.php?na..._op=getit&lid=8 - sending you an email anyway

OK, assuming that there are some similarities between a mio IPSM backup and a SPV one.

What I'd do is with a SPV device (cos we can legitimately unlock it) Do a hard reset and backup IPSM and dump it to PC. Then unlock the phone through OTA (developers.orange.co.uk) Then backup and dump the IPSM again.

The 2 dumps should be able to be differenced and hopefully they will be very similar except for the change in lock status within whatever portion of the registry is changed by the OTA unlock. This may help with identifying the sort of pattern we need to find and adjust. Then get a MIO IPSM backup and see if those patterns exist in there and try modifying them... Just the start I'd make anyway :) I won't be trying this of course until I have a MIO of my own.

Not all Mios are locked though are they - just the ones sold in certain regions. (China maybe?)

If someone could get hold of an unlocked Mio, and post the ROM that would make everything much easier I imagine :)

Hi,

I just upgraded my SPV to a Mitac Mio 8380 and have managed to unlock it to run all apps/games.

I am not a very techie guy but I just followed instructions posted on Modaco to change the ROM version and to unlock it.

Just wanted to add my comments on Gnuboy having had an SPV also...

Basically there is no comparison the Gnuboy runs flawlessley on the Mio and is absolutely funkastically cool!!!!

The Snes emulator is still slow and I havnt yet tried the NES.

I have had no problems whatso ever installing apps/games etc unsigned...

Like I said im no techie but any Mio users that may want some help PM me and I will surely try my best to help as others members of Modaco have helped me

PS. This is 1 cool community - keep it real yaall
