Guest Swift_gti Posted August 11, 2003 Report Posted August 11, 2003 Cheers for clearing up the T9 stuff, I must have skimped over that bit of the post  So, if we took the dll for english T9 from the phone with for example the Orange UK update, then dumped it on the phone after the upgrade it should work ?!? Or is it one of those files that is re-written everytime the phone is turned on ?? Is there anyway of doin a FULL backup with only an 8mb card ? as I can't afford to get a bigger one until I start my new job next week... and I was reading somewhere earlier that a full backup is approx 61mb!!!! and that you could only backup the IPSM folder with an 8mb card? This update sounds nice, i'm gonna go for it once the backup situation is confirmed. -=Edit=- I have just been doing a bit more reading and it seems that people are only downgrading the bootloader so that they can SimUnlock, I don't need to do this as apparently the QTek firmware is SimUnlocked by default.. So can I get away without backing that up and the 1.3.5.6 rom, and just backing up my IPSM so I have my settings saved, then if anything goes wrong I can download the UK 1.3.5.6 update from the web and install that?? Would it load with whatever bootloader is installed with the QTek update ? Sorry about all the questions, I just wanna make sure :) Cheers 8)
Guest vijay555 Posted August 11, 2003 Report Posted August 11, 2003 you can write the 0.93 bootloader to an 8mb card, and then install pretty much any rom update. But i'd highly recommend doing a Full backup first, because you can lose everything, ie phone included, unless you've got something to fall back on. AFAIK t9 dlls can't be copied across. However, i've got some ideas i'm working on, but i wish someone would beat me to it! V
Guest Swift_gti Posted August 11, 2003 Report Posted August 11, 2003 Right cheers for that, last question I PROMISE :) When you say do a full backup, that is backing up all folders on the smartphone, the rom, and the boot loader yeh ? So if I copy all folders from the smartphone to my PC (because not enough space on SD) then backup my bootloader to SD, and finally download the UK Update, then I would effectivley have everything for a full backup correct ? Ps, I think my bootloader is 0.98 how can I get 0.93 ? Cheers for the help
Guest Jassper23 Posted August 11, 2003 Report Posted August 11, 2003 Hello :) Any body know if you can still send SMS after using this update? The reason I ask this is because other rom update like Orange does not allow to reply or send SMS Thanks Jassper
Guest Simon Desser Posted August 11, 2003 Report Posted August 11, 2003 Hello :) Any body know if you can still send SMS after using this update? The reason I ask this is because other rom update like Orange does not allow to reply or send SMS Thanks Jassper You can, if you do a hard reset, but if you leave your IPSM in tact, or restore a backed up IPSM, then you can't create a new SMS  (In my experience anyway)
Guest Liam2000 Posted August 11, 2003 Report Posted August 11, 2003 QTek update is the best SPV one to a newbie?

Cheers for the help  Right I have downloaded a zip file with 3 bootloaders in it, one is 0.93 (BOOT-093.whx) I presume thats a winhex file? What do I have to do with this to get it onto my phone so I can load it and install the UK rom if things go wrong? I have tried using USBTerm but it says "Cannot open terminal handle!" Please help I really wanna try out this update. :o
Guest Gears Posted August 11, 2003 Report Posted August 11, 2003 I just went to Canary three-colour screen and installed it. It didn't seem to suffer much.. I tweaked the GPRS settings, job done. Pity about the T9... :)
Guest Tocken Posted August 11, 2003 Report Posted August 11, 2003 Awarner you seem to be the guy to ask. Today I updated my brand new danish SPV E100 whith the swedish Qtek update. The phone is still simlocked and when trying to do a hard reset I only get a white screen after "press any key to enter bootloader". I have done the update twice and it`s still hungs. What is the problem?
Guest Bunny0007 Posted August 11, 2003 Report Posted August 11, 2003 Tocken >> If its was simlocked i still will be simlocked after the Qtek update, you can reflash it with te update from http://orange.dk/spv and then sim unlock it by setting the phone in debug mode and run the simlock tool, then unlock the phone, and reflash with the Qtek update, that the way to unlock it.
Guest vijay555 Posted August 11, 2003 Report Posted August 11, 2003 You only need 0.93 if you want to backup your phone. Not necassary, but enjoy living on the edge if u want. -Install winhex. You need the registered version, so this might put you off. -double click on the 0.93 file. should load winhex. -it'll ask you if you want to write file. from the drop down, choose your sd card writer (you do have an sd card writer, yes?) -it'll take a few seconds. -pop out sd, power down phone, put sd card in phone, bootstrap phone (by pressing rec+power on) -phone will recognise card, ask if you want to download click enter/action key -few seconds, it'll say passed, then take battery off and bootstrap again. check if canary now says 0.93 job done. from this screen, pop phone on cradle, install qtek upgrade. PEOPLE: my battery has gone nuts, i'm telling you, it's now on par with Zinc Air cells, 16 hours passed and still on 3bars. surely a record, since my e100 was ready for a charge after 9! V
Guest wbloore Posted August 11, 2003 Report Posted August 11, 2003 Why are people doing backups of older bootloaders to downgrade their bootloader after the update? It's not required. The update is SIM UNLOCKED and SOFTWARE UNLOCKED. Downgrading your bootloader won't make a difference to sim unlocking or software unlocking.
Guest vijay555 Posted August 12, 2003 Report Posted August 12, 2003 Sigh, not backing up the bootloader - only using the 0.93 bootloader to backup the ipsm+wince rom etc so that if your rom update does go tits up, as mine and a number of other fellas (marclinnegar!) you can at least go back to a working backup. you'll be kicking yourself if you find yourself with a dead phone (ie sunset screen) and no way to recover. as i said, playing with roms is hackery, and you're always advised to backup. but i'm now on 25 hours of qtek with 1 bar left and no battery warning; e100 was giving warning at 12. V
Guest dinoalbert Posted August 12, 2003 Report Posted August 12, 2003 @vijay wow 25 hrs?! May I ask what phone are you using SPV or the SPVx? What did you do with your phone during those 25 hours...play video, mp3, games, internet, calls, etc? thanks...
Guest vijay555 Posted August 12, 2003 Report Posted August 12, 2003 i've done pretty much nothing with the phone, other than leave it switched on. made a couple of calls of about 30 mins (to marclinnegar, who's phone got screwed up like mine!), sent about 8 sms, and checking schedules etc. I don't use the screensaver, so my homescreen is always visible, backlight timeout = 30 seconds. it's now been unplugged since at least 9am yesterday, and as of about midday today, still got 1 bar and no low power warning on an spv e100. as i said, exactly the same e100 before update was doing going thru exactly the same, and screaming for a recharge after about 12-18 hrs or so, less on bad days. V EDIT: 30 hours from start to very low battery warning. Gonna charge now! made a fair few calls, 50 mins or so, text msgs, few apps.
Guest thekrush Posted August 12, 2003 Report Posted August 12, 2003 Hey Everybody! I just upgraded to the new QTek ROM (from 1.37 SAP) with 0.98 bootloader and it works great overall (quicker menus, wierd T9, etc)! Still unlocked, and works great in the U.S. (Cingular). About the Ringtones being able to be read from the SD Card, it works...KINDA... The issue is that when you go to the Sounds profile, it reads the Ringtones (from the SD card stored in My Documents folder). But when you try to assign a specific ringtone to a specific contact, it doesn't read the WAV/MID files from the SD card?! (only the default list shows up!?) That sucks because I wanted to assign specific ringtones (from SD) to specific contacts! Anybody with a workaround on this? (besides using 3rd party software). Being that this is a new revision of the software, it might be possible (if QTek has a subroutine that reads the files on SD cards). A tweak? MIDNIGHT...if anybody is THE MAN...can you check into this?! Just a thought....Laters! LOS...aka 'thekrush'

I have done the update twice and it`s still hungs. What is the problem? First of all I've been away so sorry for a late reply  ok if you sre getting the white screen try removing the storage card and trying again to do a Hard Reset. So is it actually hanging on the white screen so you have to reboot to get it working again? Also as mentioned in this post already to SIM unlock you need to have a bootloader version V0.98 or below (v0.93 is the best) Once you have downgraded the bootloader there is no need to upgrade again unless you really want to. And finaly you could always ask your service provider to unlock your phone for you.
Guest happiboy2002 Posted August 13, 2003 Report Posted August 13, 2003 Anyone from the Philippines who have tried this? I tried using it but it doesn't seem to work. :?
Guest dinoalbert Posted August 13, 2003 Report Posted August 13, 2003 go to General-Pinoy Area...this is also discussed there... look for the topic "Qtek ROM 1.50.9.1" I myself was able to upgrade my Smartphone :)
Guest dinoalbert Posted August 13, 2003 Report Posted August 13, 2003 go to the Forum Index, scroll down a bit..under Locale Specific, you can find General-Pinoy
Guest Jassper23 Posted August 13, 2003 Report Posted August 13, 2003 You can, if you do a http://smartphone.MoDaCo.com/viewtopic.php?p=97945#97945>Hard Reset, but if you leave your IPSM in tact, or restore a backed up IPSM, then you can't create a new SMS  (In my experience anyway) Thanks for the information Jassper
Guest MoRFLeZ Posted August 14, 2003 Report Posted August 14, 2003 Hmmm it appears that the in-built IA Album has a fixed storage thingie. In the normal IA Album I could only video about 30 seconds - even though I saved to my storage card. In the in-built IA Album you can record a LOT (the space you have left)... which is neat ... although it's still crappy recording
Guest alien_spiff Posted August 24, 2003 Report Posted August 24, 2003 i'm doing it now... i have a bad feeling about this.... ("star wars") I haven't been this afraid for my phone since i did the hard reset a month ago....! that was terrible!! i hope it works, i didn' get sms2mail to work, so i'm loosing about 500 sms's =(
